  • Linux is a KERNEL people....and it should actually be called GNU/Linux :D.

  • i say linux is a mix of mac and pc ! :P

  • @MadMAxx765 You've got to be kidding me. One of the things that Steve Jobs (RIP) was bragging about the new Mac OS X ten years ago was that it is "like Linux". You can watch the introduction of OS X yourself.

  • psh i run linux, mac osx on my window 7 at the same time.

  • @MadMAxx765 ... "Linux it's just a copy of the MAC OS". ehh..no. You do know that Linux came before the version of MAC OS (OS X) that is based on a version of Unix right? And Unix came before both of them. Nobody is copying anyone. Although they have a similar base, they're different OSs.

  • @MadMAxx765

    LMAO :D

  • @MadMAxx765 - completely wrong - Linux is Linux - simply a kernel with supporting programs around it. MAC OS is derived from BSD Unix - which is different.

  • I'm a Mac --- I'm a PC

    cool ...

    I'm a Ford --- I'm a Car

maybe someone gets the mistake, but i think Apple users wont get it ;)

  • @shohchkheh i get it!!!!!

  • i'm a gamer, so I use windows

  • i tried linux... got no where...

  • Open Source is THE FEATURE! Viva LINUX.

  • BAKAAAAAAK

  • @manishrana51 You're the one on youtube constantly reading comments and arguing back. I see you refer to me as being dumb, yet. shitting out of a mouth is impossible. Proves my point in YOU being dumb... Also all the emoticons, so boring to read. Now. I see you're over 20 years old and you're on youtube 24/7 which brings me to the conclusion you have no job, you're fat due to lack of exercise and you have no life. Quit embarrassing yourself little Yankee.

  • @manishrana51 Oh and I see you have been arguing with fellow youtube users. Seems you're not so popular around here aye? The dudes right, you do seem to be on youtube 24/7 as I was arguing with you all yesterday pretty much and went to bed then get even more pathetic comment replies from you as I woke up. Grow up, learn to spell and get the fuck out.

  • @manishrana51 Lmao I'm from England. We spell it ARSE. Therefore arse is correct, :) And Linux isn't shit. If you like Mac then you like UNIX and if you like UNIX you like Linux. Anyway back to 'arse' you actually dare to correct someone from England? You dare correct us on our own language. CUNT! it's arse mate. You Yankee homo's are such idiotic fucks. Umad?

  • @manishrana51 So you were lying, you haven't used Linux the one time. Now who's the dumb arse Also it's spelt 'Arse'. Fucking Yanks never get it right... I doubt you have used Windows for over 20 years. Probably like 9 years old. Young idiots such as yourself make me so sad :P In future if you don't like Linux, keep it to yourself. YANKEE fuck!

  • @manishrana51 you spelled "And" wrong.. go back to fucking school kid.. instead of sitting by the computer waiting for comments you twit.

  • judging by the way you "type" and "spell" i can see why you think "Linux" is difficult

  • @manishrana51 How about you keep your pathetic little comments to yourself, you have used linux the one time and judge it being crap. Use it over a long period of time you idiot. And seriously, the swearing? Grow up.

  • @manishrana51 doesn't make sense to me, you like OS X but not Linux? They both come from UNIX you dumb fuck. Practically the same thing.

  • @TOMMY95215 It's not that uncommon. E.g. I enjoy using Linux but don't care for Mac OS X.

  • Am I a linux person?

You could say that. My mother was an open source.

  • actually OSX is kinda linux becouse they both come from the comercial unix systems

  • question, just a question: linux is open source right? so doesn't that make you VERY vunerable to downloading a virus while you think you're downloading linux?

  • @2fast4uFED

No. The complete opposite is true. Because Linux is open source, and usually available for free download under the various distributions, people rarely download it from non-official locations (ie. no need to pirate it and hope you are not downloading viruses). Official distributions (ubuntu, fedora, debian, etc) offer plenty of download options, which not only are fast, but also provide ways to verify that what you are downloading is in fact what you intended to download.

  • @loconet tnx for clearing that up.

  • @2fast4uFED You download a linux distribution as a disk image, and use the disk image to install it on a partition of your hard drive. As long as you download it from an official website, there is no risk of being infected by a virus. Being open source merely means that the source code is freely distributed so that people can modify it, but people can post a file claiming to be a linux distribution but is actually a virus just as they can post a file claiming to be a windows version.

  • @2fast4uFED also, since the source is open, you can just look at the code.

    you have a virus?

    change it. lol

and I realize the average person can't do that, but you probably won't be the first one to download it. all the cool programs hit developers first, people who do pick apart the code.

if anyone snuck in a virus, someone else would catch it

  • @darris321 tnx for the info, I still need to go with 7 though, otherwise I'm risking major compatibility issues with the software my university provides for my study. I just cannot take that risk, because the software is essential to what I do. Also I coult buy a 1500 dollar laptop with 7 on it for only 900 dollars from my university. Still Linux is now something to think about for any future new computers'.

  • @brainslurper That is extremely misleading. You are not using the word "support" properly. Linux "supports" those programs as much as any other Operating System. It's just software. You can compile and execute instructions just like any other OS. The fact that vendors of those applications choose to not create a Linux version of their applications is a completely different story that has VERY little to do with what the OS "supports" and more about what makes business sense for their company.

  • @loconet Having support as in the companies supporting linux as a platform, rather then linux actually supporting the software. If that makes any sense.

  • @brainslurper idiot

  • @OKTA1 cool story bro

  • @brainslurper Hi, I am brainslurper, and I'm the biggest noob who thinks he's cool, ever. That's why I look into Adobe crap everytime I want to buy a computer.

  • @WrestlingFanUploader Wait... I am a noob for using adobe software? Ugh... I feel bad for you.

  • @brainslurper I'm pretty sure his point was for productivity software you only cited Adobe products. And are you seriously citing the lack of the Mac App Store as a point against Linux?

  • @LordDestros Ubuntu is pretty much Mac OS X, but with less first party and third party support, and more ease of modification.

  • @LordDestros There is quite a library of exclusive software going on on the Mac App store, I would be missing something if I didn't point that out...

  • @LordDestros Sorry for the third response- Final cut, iWork, Microsoft office (Not sure about that) aren't available on linux.

  • @brainslurper to go with what @loconet said there is flash for linux, GIMP is just as powerful as photoshop and oh yeah can open photoshop files too, you my friend need to use linux before making any assumptions

  • @ZachThibeau Gimp? As powerful as photoshop? Hahaha... Flash as in the development application, not Flash Player. I have used linux, I have a Ubuntu VM on my iMac, and while it is very stable and customizable it is very limited in terms of pro applications.

  • @brainslurper All things considering you have barely scratched the surface of what linux can do, my main computer system is a custom built linux that I compiled from source code, do not under estimate linux, and yes Gimp is powerful in the hands of an artist.

  • @ZachThibeau All I was saying is that Gimp is nowhere as powerful as photoshop. I just think that it is lacking in a lot of areas that Mac OS X or Windows aren't (My only experience so far is with ubuntu). I just prefer my work computer to come with Final Cut X and Adobe Creative Suite compatibility, and my windows computer does one thing right: Having DX11. And thats it.

  • @brainslurper

There is open-source versions of those.

  • @Henrikhnwi There is no open source version of anything I mentioned.

  • @brainslurper

Well, most. Photoshop for example, it has an open-source version called GIMP.

  • @Henrikhnwi Photoshop is made by adobe. GIMP isn't. GIMP doesn't even have a working Mac version, so that's a large portion of the graphic design market that can't use it, not that they would be using it anyways if they could afford photoshop. Blender might actually be useful if it's interface wasn't in chinese.

  • @brainslurper

You just have to learn how to use Blender's interface. There is plenty of tutorials online.

  • @Henrikhnwi The problem isn't my inability to use it- it is more efficient to use an interface that I couldn't mold from my own poop. I'm sure there are some interface mods out there, but I really have no use for blender right now.

  • @brainslurper

Hey, im Brainslurper. Im both ignorant and extremely stupid.

  • even free is too expensive!

  • Linux is great, but I have to keep a partition of Windows on my computer all the time. Gaming is necessary xD

  • so where is linux in Pc world, or any other retailer, without having to work to find it... please theres a reason its hidden

  • @shamonwillye

.... Work to find it? xD

Just do a Google search for a download. Or search Amazon or Ebay for a preinstalled computer.

I guess the only reason it could be called "hidden" is cause people aren't used to it, so stores like Wal-mart won't sell them... :< Personally, I think if they did it'd be more popular than a Mac. It's not Windows, which is is probably the only reason most folks get Macs, and it'd be hella cheaper! :D

  • is it just me or are the "get a mac" commercials the only ones where the acting is good?

  • ah linux. so superior.

  • @grail68 not that, linux fits my needs

  • lol

  • @kingofqwerty Iuse my computer to Work, and everything is better in Windows than Linux...

  • @VitorBrunoMA There is more Windows viruses than there is computers itself on the planet (I don't really know but viruses are damn annoying and antivirus slows down computers like hell :S )

  • Linux Sucks...

    Don't have Games kkkk''

  • @VitorBrunoMA No you can play every Windows game on Linux with a free program called wine

  • @VitorBrunoMA Ok, but some of us work with our computers so we prefer a real OS.

  • I run Linux, cause Linux got sweet boobs!

  • that's some bad acting...

  • Well...They are using ubuntu...

No goal to buy a GNU distribution...

If you gonna buy one, why don't you just fuck your self with mac? :D

  • @kevinchui828 You don't buy ubuntu..

  • Comment removed

  • @billsurlatete Install Ubuntu on you entire hard drive. Use Virtualbox instead of wine, because wine do not sanboxing windows softwares 100%. Plus, having windows os installed on the machine is a welcome back door for hackers, spyware, and worms.

  • Linux makes part of UNIX, as Mac OS X does, but Mac OS X IS NOT Linux.

    It's like this:

You are human and I am too, but this doesn't means that I'm you.

  • @douchebagandpie i don't think so. Windows is a personal computer because it is fully customizable and doesn't have "limits". If you understand what I'm saying. Mac is, well, just a Mac, while Windows and especially Linux are almost completely fully customizable.

  • mac os x IS linux.

  • @mickyd110011 Unix cousins ftw? :P

  • yeah linux .... i turned on when looking at that wonderfull console

  • Who the fuck would pay $1000 for a mac to put a free OS on it like Linux?

  • @mikeywido2007 Fact Apple.com is running on a Linux server. Google also. So what's that tell you? :)

  • @alexthehaitian That Linux sucks for gaming and video editing?

  • @mikeywido2007 Can you play your Xbox 360 games in a PS3? lol

Atleast in Linux you can try running the windows game in a virtual machine or Wine.

Video Edinting? lol Blender can do pretty much everything, 3d, 2d, cgi, Graphics editing, professional video editing, games, animations plus more. And if Blender is too pro level, you can use Kdenlive, or Cinelerra. Check out metalx1000 channel for cinelerra you'll see what I mean.

  • @alexthehaitian blender does not do video editing xD

  • @planetRown Blender does video editing. That is a fact. You can use the Node editor in Blender or the Sequencer. metalx1000 has an entire series on it.

  • @alexthehaitian And Microsoft's mail server runs Postfix on BSD (while developing the Exchange server). Not Linux, but free software too.

  • @MZubrov Funny you point that out, Microsoft don't even trust their own Windows OS with their mails. lol

  • when was Linux ever compatible with Macs???

  • @douchebagandpie Uh, a Mac is a PC (Personal Computer). Windows, OS X and Linux are operating systems, the latter of which can be put on any hardware.

  • @InfoPunkie i know that, I'm not stupid. but I would of thought it would be a bit harder to run Linux on a Mac. i don't actually own a mac so I'm not sure.

  • @douchebagandpie Apologies, I didn't mean to make it sound like that I was infering/implying you were stupid it's just some of us in the tech world get so frustrated that people are always saying Mac vs PC when they're the same thing.

No, it's not any more difficult to install linux on a an apple P.C afaik.

  • @InfoPunkie well i learn't something new :)

  • @douchebagandpie when Linus Torvalds bought a mac

  • Linux should show her source code

  • @lakshanx I'm sure her genes would be fascinating to look at.

  • linux is the biggest shit i ever seen

  • Linux Mint FTW and Ubuntu FTEW

  • @91jmda Dude, come over to the Gentoo side ;)

  • @InfoPunkie I don't think im ready xD maybe Arch will be a nice start... n.n

  • @91jmda Yeah, that's what I went to before Gentoo :)

  • @AmigosDoRitmo wow ur dick must be amazing then

  • @ArseJockey O........k......I'm gonna go search for tthe other comment... you know just to understand this better, because.... WOW!

  • @AmigosDoRitmo an its gone. lol I will never know.

  • "Hey there fellas"

    "Oh hey linux"

    "Whatcha looking at"

    "Porn."

  • @MudX7 Very good commerical, but it needs to be ON TELEVISION. some of these are very good commercials: cool, and with a lot of positive attitude. Unfortunately, they are not on televison. Novell has lost market share to Microsoft because it has NO CLUE of how to advertise. The average person has no clue of who Novell is, but they can easily tell you who Microsoft is.

  • Wow this ad is somewhat convincing because it doesn't diss another OS.

  • :L mac and lenux hve to do the same type of advert to get people intrested :LLLL pethetic

  • two words: awesome!

  • someone should try to put these parody ads on tv

  • Need more traffic in your web page?An Affiliate system is the best tool you can use,The GAS system is the best overall,Because the average person doesn't have the coding skills to install other aff systems,Get it here GAS-AFFILIATEdotCOM and make get that traffic you want.

  • umm mac is based on bsd. soo.....

  • @Gankageddon Yeah...but Mac isn't free!!

  • I love OpenSUSE!!!:) Now everytime I use Windows, I feel less and less familiar and less and less comfortable with it. I'm having a blast turning my OpenSUSE inside out to get an idea of how computers work. And I looooove installing programs with the very configurable and very intuitive zypper!! I love making shell scripts to automate the things I do. I love upgrading my system at zero cost. Thank God! Incompatibility is I guess the only down side... If you're also using OpenSUSE, HAVE FUN!!:)

  • 364 mac fanboys

  • greedy peoples...

  • We support all operating systems which are based on UNIX or BSD-UNIX, Linux and Mac OS X are cousins, but certainly OS X is not based on Linux! Since 10.0 to 10.4; it was based on a fully compliant BSD-UNIX foundation operating on the open source Mach microkernel, when 10.5 was released on intel-based systems; Mac OS X was a true UNIX system and certified as an open brand registered UNIX 03 system!! Yet for only $29!!! The cheapest UNIX system on earth!!!!!!!

  • @benghaith "Yet for only $29!"

That's an upgrade cost, not a full license cost. And what exactly does the average person care about UNIX certification? Anyone interested in such would probably be more likely to want the server release anyways. Much of the BSD portions are from FreeBSD anyways.

  • @LordDestros True Apple mentions thats an upgrade price, but do you know that you can install Mac OS 10.6 on a blank HDD without the need of Mac OS 10.4 nor Mac OS 10.5 to be installed!!

  • @benghaith True, but you do know that you can also pirate Windows and Mac OS X to get them for free! Both actions are a violation of EULA however and as a result are not advisable; the only difference is one way your still spending money. The only way to purchase Snow Leopard independently from Leopard is to purchase the Mac Box Set which runs for $110 currently (at Amazon).

  • @LordDestros Again, Pirating with the Mac isn't necessary nor Pirating "Mac Box Set" is necessary! I own one Mac OS v10.6 retail installation DVD with a single user license, it cost me only $30 with shipment!! I installed it on an office iMac, MacPro, MacBook, 2 MacBook Airs and a MacBook Pro 17 and 15!!! No problems.

More than that; my friend gave me his iLife '11 installation DVD which I've copied and disc-imaged; then I've installed it on all the machines mentioned above! No problems

  • @benghaith "...Pirating with the Mac isn't necessary"

I never said it was necessary. I was saying purchasing the Mac Box Set is the legal method to obtain Snow Leopard in the circumstances described.

"it cost me only $30...on an office iMac, MacPro, MacBook, 2 MacBook Airs and a MacBook Pro 17 and 15!!!"

Okay, so you're choosing to pay $30 to violate Apple's EULA. Others choose to pay nothing. What's your point?

    "...I've copied and disc-imaged"

And here you're admitting to piracy.

  • @LordDestros Thats not piracy. Its flexibility! Apple doesn't focuses heavily on such issues, thats my point. I bought the DVD and install it on our (house hold) machines. I didn't distribute it over the net or "torrented" it!! Thats piracy, there is no single Mac OS X installation DVD that comes with serial a number nor activation code (Since 10.0) , that includes iLife!! And copying my friends iLife DVD isn't a kind of piracy neither, again; we didn't distribute it over the net; we share it..

  • @benghaith "Thats not piracy. Its flexibility!"

Okay I literally laughed out loud here.

"Apple doesn't focuses heavily on such issues...."

Tell that to Psystar or anyone who tries to jailbreak their i-Device.

"I didn't distribute it over the net...."

You don't seem to know what the definition of software piracy is. Going by Dictionary .cofm, Piracy is "the unauthorized reproduction or use of a copyrighted book, recording, television program, patented invention, trademarked product, etc."

  • @LordDestros Psystar and jailbreak are a absolutely different subjects, Apple made it clear that it doesn't need any other companies to run Mac OS X on their platform rather than Apple's hardware; this is Apple's issue with Psystar. And Apple made it clear that it doesn't need any other companies to run unauthorized software on its hardware... Thats the issue Apple is facing with jailbreak phenomena... So what is the conection between the two subjects? (rhetoric question!)

  • @benghaith "Apple made it clear that it doesn't need any other companies to run Mac OS X...."

Or more accurately that they didn't need anyone installing their software in a manner that violated EULA.

"And Apple made it clear that it doesn't need any other companies to run unauthorized software on its hardware."

Yeah! Apple has definitively made it clear that Apple doesn't need Apple to run Apple's unauthorized software on Apple-branded devices. That's why they advertise Macs can run Windows!

  • @LordDestros Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 are fully qualified by Apple and authorized OSs to run on the Mac via Bootcamp (though I hate to say that), I was talking about unauthorized softwares running on Apple hardware (jailbreak), and unauthorized hardware running Apple software (Psystar)... Again, running Windows on a Mac is a different subject...

  • @benghaith "Windows...qualified by Apple...."

In that case let's go with Linux distros, the FOSS BSDs, FreeDOS, React OS, Darwin, etc.

"...unauthorized softwares running on Apple hardware...."

So developers aren't allowed to write applications for submittal to the App Store without having that software be already approved and present in the App Store.

    "...unauthorized hardware running Apple software...."

Yes and they obviously have NOT won cases to support this because of EULA clauses.

  • @LordDestros Further in continuation to my last post, because you believe Apple will not take any legal actions against those who infringe on copyright and their EULA. Feel free to send them an e-mail containing your name, address, and the actions you performed. Their contact info can be found here: apple dot com/legal/trademark/piracy dot html.

  • @LordDestros There is a stink in the air. enough said!

  • @benghaith Very well.

  • @benghaith In continuation, I find your rationalization condoning piracy to be quite unusual. You seem to believe that sharing works over the internet without author permission is inherently evil and should not be done yet doing so among friends and violating contract several times yourself is perfectly acceptable. Further more you seem to believe Apple enjoys controlling the hardware and software they sell simply for the heck of it as opposed to them doing it to ensure a revenue stream.

  • @LordDestros "...what that means is that Apple is over 15 billion dollar company! Now, I like to forget that, because thats not how we think about Apple..." Jobs statement, iPad announcement event. Period.

  • @LordDestros I also would like to mention; along side with all our 10.6.6-based Macs mentioned, I also installed MAc Os 10.6 from the same retail installation DVD on two 16GB UltraFast Transcend USBs!! Fancy that!!!!

  • @benghaith there are free unix OS out

  • @xXEduBuntuXx name them!

  • @benghaith UNIX is just a certification for an operating system. A standard. Unix System V which was the last developed by Bell Labs is no longer being developed as an OS. Other have taken over and made their own derivatives, Solaris , OpenBSD Unix and FreeBSD Unix .They are free :) Google it if u dont believe me.

  • @Brianchse I adore Linux-based OSs, I do use heavily Ubuntu and LinuxMint and OS X, the conflict is if a certification worth something or worth nothing, I do believe it worth a lot, all OSs you've mentioned are Unix-Like not true UNIX OSs in the sense of "Certification" approved from the Open Group who owns the UNIX trade mark.

  • @Brianchse And as of the Solaris (The commercial OS not the Discontinued OpenSolaris OS); they claim Solaris is a free software while its released under the CDDL which is incompatible and conflicts with the GPL terms. Then since you're a Windows user; I do not know why you involve your self in such subjects!! No offense...

  • @benghaith in short i use windows for games only, i use Kubuntu mostly. The reason most Linux distros are considered Unix-like is because of the huge costs for getting the OS certified, an OS could not be free if you had to pay for whats essentially a licence to use the word Unix in describing your OS. The lack of certification does not take away from the fact that they are Unix. I involve myself in subjects like this because i see too many people spouting false information. No offense...

  • @Brianchse "" false inforamtion" you say!! Start pointing fingers and blame the media, internet encyclopedia and governments.... LOL

  • @Brianchse "...except for the claim that just because its not certified, its not Unix."

Legally this is true thanks to trademark law (IIRC Apple was sued for this a few years ago prior to their certification). That said, his rebuttal of Solaris did not make any sense and he's advocating Mac OS X as the cheapest UNIX-certified OS based on EULA violation.

  • @benghaith "they claim Solaris is a free software while its released under the CDDL which is incompatible and conflicts with the GPL terms."

    ???

Apparently you do not know what "free" means. Free != FOSS != GPL. There is plenty of free software that isn't open source (e.g. Safari). There is plenty of Free and Open Source software that isn't licensed under the GPL (e.g. Darwin). There is plenty of GPL software that isn't free (e.g. RHEL).

  • @LordDestros I heard Richard Stallman statement! And I know what "Free" means! This word is ambiguous which leads many people to confusion and "false information" as you said. We can take so long in this discussion, but truthfully I am a UNIX fan and love all UNIX-Based OSs; IRIX, Linux, BSD, Mac OSX and so on from both parties; those who granted the Open Group certificate or didn't granted it!! No hard feelings mate, I believe without a shadow of doubt; that I and you are in the same boat!!

  • @LordDestros I stand for all what I've said. I have my thoughts clear in my mind. And I could not contradict my self, the Media, Internet Encyclopedia and many other sources back me up, not necessarily to prove you wrong, these discussions does involve in such manners, all what we can do is to be more (or somewhat) tolerant and understandable...

  • @benghaith i dont see how $29 dollars is cheaper than free?

  • @Brianchse thats because you're skimpy!!

  • That comment makes no sense.

  • @drummerboyy04 Then something is wrong with your school's network. No NOS should take 10 min to log in, not Netware, Linux, or MS.. That's a configuration/setup problem, not a software choice problem.

  • @bulgarin1000 it's an operating system (well technically it is just a part of an operating system) it is well known for being secure

  • Boy would I love to update her kernel with my torrent.

  • linux...good look staying up all night looking fro drivers and compatible apps...

  • @trufiend138

Sounds liek youve never tried it.

    One word: Ubuntu

  • @tyeo098

Ubuntu to! besides the ubuntu UI is so ugly after this last version: 10.9

  • @trufiend138 There is no 10.9? What aspect of the UI are you talking about?

  • @trufiend138 you'll mean 10.04 I guess, 10.10 is not different from 10.04 which was really diffrent from 9.10. All those windows guys don't get it: it's the default theme, and you can change it. a lot. why won't people understand you can do it and you can't with windows?

  • @trufiend138 10.9 doesn´t exist. please dont talk about things that don´t exist.

  • DAVE GAHAN!!!! Someone must have noticed. LOL! The fuck!

  • I love linux for it's unlimited possibilities, but i do like Windows for games (waiting for perfect working wine isn't pretty good for me), and i hate mac, coz' it's gay, and it's only for being self "proud" haha! every macbook costs 6000PLN+ Only coz' of the apple haha! summarizing, Win - ok -Lin - Great Mac- gay!

  • @bielawa86 there is a new wine version out since a few days. it supports directX much better

  • @doemaeries Seriously? good to know :]
