great job but, honestly, it's not that hard to cut a wong kar wai film lol...just put in all the tormented 'but-it-can't-be-this-way' far off gazing XD
i really liked this movieee omgg i love how it was depicted and the time period is one of my favs and omg ima just watch again! its a bit slow but that intensifies its beauty. i dont know if that makes sense but i love it
It's just solo violin (or maybe viola - a little lower pitch) with pizzicato (plucked, not bowed) strings in the background. It certainly works well...
One can't blame Irenedxs for limited knowledge of the current geographical situation on the globe...she's from an ethnocentric nation where besides her beloved actual cinema and big city modernities people in rural areas still practise customs from the Middle Ages...
HK is part of China..actors are from HK and China...sigh..what happens with European Union tax money from the developed North for education in the Southern areas ?
GoddardTruffaut: stop playin the interesting please, u're just puttin it on!! it sounds so parrot-fashion... make ur own thoughts but B4 go & study some geography. Magnolia it's an australian movie & Wong Kar-Wai IS NOT Chinesse, U heard about Hong-Kong? U know what's about? Nothing 2 C, my friend!
Apart from the snobbish quotation of last Amenábar's crap, I could agreee with the rest, but believe me: there's sthing else than old-fashioned Almódovar & fussy Amenábar in spanish actual cinema
emm..ingmar bergman considered p.t. anderson's magnolia a complex work of art and great example of how fine can american cinema be (his last biography - got it recently via amazon)....p.s: i watched this...trully great film!
wong kar wai (yes..chinese) believes that Alejandro Amenábar's "mar adentro" was the best film of 2004 (europe..anyone?)...ps: i love today's chinese movies too
It is a piece of art. the soundtrack is most beautiful and visually, every frame is a photograph. and most beautiful of all, it's not visually stimulating for the sake of being visually stimulating. every frame illustrates a little bit more of the story...
He remembers those vanished years. As though looking throusth a dusty window pane, the past is something he could see, but not touch. And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct...
Magique...
it is my fave movie of all time plus the song that just is perfect.. with the slow mo and the cheongsams, awkward silences and all.. its truly brilliant, thanks for uploading this.
I read an editorial piece somewhere the other day, maybe it was the Guardian. It listed the forty best/ most influential directors working today. Wong Kar-Wai clocked in at #14 or so.
I was quite happy to see that his remarkable talent is starting to become more and more well-known by the Western media. A superb director-- sees cinematography in a whole different light.
An incredible film. This is one of those rare films that have the ability to completely alter one's mood in a profound way. It leaves you with a sense of haunting nostalgia. And of course the cinematography is second to none.
in the mood for love is said to be the 2nd part of WKW trilogy. of all the trilogy (days of being wild 1991, in the mood 2000, and 2046 2004) this is one is the best. 2046 is kind'f like the sum of all the trilogy and focuses more on tony's work(writer) and his relationship to different women.
no doubt about it, the most gorgeous film ive seen in my life and probably there ever was!. WKW made this film like some moving renaisance painting. the color that he use is so powerful and yet so haunting. the music itself acts like the narrator in the film. the camera movements is fantastic. from the drops of rains on the floor and the smokes from tony's cigars, as if their telling a story out of it. and the cinematography..hands down to christopher boyle. the BEST ASIAN FILM. period
I just watched this incredible film again and I once again must say that it is absolutely, stunningly beautiful. No matter how many times I view this gorgeous film, I'm always in awe at the pure magic and beauty of it's two leading characters played so flawlessly by Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung. This rare gem of a film will continue to dazzle me with its rich, beautiful colors, eloquent of time and motion and such beautiful music. Maggie Cheung, with her feminine grace and beauty is unsurpassed.
The most beautiful film of love I've ever seen. It was magnificently shot with lush colors and accompanied by a soundtrack, unlike anything I've ever heard before. Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung defines what great acting is all about. They captured perfectly the essence of love with their incredible looks and gestures which will leave the viewers heartbroken and yearning for such love.
Son las dos de la mañana. Me pasaré la noche hablando con un árbol. Le contaré que te has ido, que te estás yendo... Voy a sentarme mirando fijamente la corteza callada. Y no obtendré respuesta. Claro.
One person recommended me to see this movie: After watching it I felt more deeply how expressive and eloquent could be silence. It is a very beautiful professional work.
i felt in love with this movie when I saw this trailer. the music and the pictures just went into my heart! later I bought the DVD i watched in Chinese. the tears just flow over my cheeks. even I didn't understand a word.but the actors, the music, the pictures are saying everything... this movie is full of love!sadly, deep, real love!
O amor que Camões idealizou finalmente foi representado. Sem ciúme, sem o egoísmo carnal, apenas o genuíno amor que se passa dentro do casal principal.
(The love what Camões idealized finally was represented. Without jealousy, without the carnal selfishness, only the genuine love that goes on inside the principal couple.)
This movie depicts the constraints of forbidden love during a time before the advent of today's era of unbridled lasciviousness, lust, immorality and amorality. Truly a romantic tour de force that should be seen--no, experienced--by all.
A masterpiece.

Wong Kar Wei has found a new approach to films. Very stylish, interesting camera, cuts and colours.
I seems to me the he has found a style that many spectators have been waiting for. So it seems like every single film is already a classic by itself.

So intensely beautiful. Someone described Tony Leung as the Clark Gable of our time, and I think they're probably right.
It reminds me of the HK of my parents time, during the 1970s. All things must pass, Wong Kar Wai has done a fine job of recreating the past however.
