The blues has something that blues-rock doesn't. The blues is haunted by ghosts of the past. It's the long history and feeling in the blues that puts it on a whole higher level. After really getting into the blues I started to see blues-rock music in a different light. Take Led Zeppelin for example. I now listen to their songs and can't help but think how derivative and gimmicky they sound. I agree with deadboys1010. The Stones got closest.
the stones, zepplin, clapton, and mccartney were influenced directly by old blues mucisians like muddy waters, johnson, etc. That is what they were raised listening to, it is the fundamental basis of rock n roll.....i suppose that is why they did cover some of their songs, a lot of their songs actually. i think clapton did a whole record of johnson songs. Even rockabilly was directly influenced by delta blues style guitar and boogie woogie piano from like pinetop perkins..
lol the man prefers Son House and Robert Johnson, can you blame him? Its not like Page didn't listen to the exact same songs!
Blues-rock is NOT blues. its an adaption. Aerosmith and Zep are not playing in the same tone, mindset, and style as Johnson and Muddy Waters. does the point need to be argued?
the closest thing a rock band trying to capture the blues soul is The Rolling Stones all the way up to Sticky Fingers (minus Their Lords, that was psychedelic). they've lost it over the years.
so many people led zeppelin and jimmy page "stole" blues songs from other people, but that's not the case at all. YES, dazed and confused was an old blues song, but they did have permission to use it, and they have a ton of original stuff that can be viewed as an old blues song, when really, they wrote it themselves.
this guy is full of shit. the only repackaged aprts of willie dixon songs were the lyrics. page is a true musician. he worked his ass off to come up with somehting origional, and of course his influences are gonna show through
actually zososg, jimmy stole a lot of things off of other people. for instance the beginning to dazed and confused, was actually to a song many many years earlier. abd jimmy used lots of riffs that other people wrote. and if you think he put hard work into black dog and some others, youre wrong jpj wrote that and more too.
yes, if you,re talking about guitarists. if you mean just musician, youre quite wrong, because there are all types of musicians like drummers and bassists. but you,re quite right, the uk has thrown some very very talenented and skilled, some of the finest musicians of all time, like the beatles and zeppelin
Wow. Let's hear it for Mr. Jones! Nice post. For what it's worth, Whole Lotta Love is actually a Muddy Waters song called "You Need Love." The lyrics are almost identical. Anyway, this guy, J.D - is without a doubt the most talented lyricist out there today. I almost wish the band would slow down a bit so you could hear everything he's singing instead of having to read it off the CD. GREAT AMERICAN BAND!
yup they did want they wanted and they where a great fucking band and i didn't care what they did or what who they copy so, fuck you who thinks so!!! thats right if you don't have the knowledge, like what 10scee said then you should go put head in cold water and wake up. and say your right they are great and i respect them
And guess what J.D.! Yazall did tha same thang to tha most talented man to ever be in your group! Jus like the E-jip-shuns you wiped that slate clean of Joe Buck You. What did someone with vision and actual talent offend your ego J.D.? SO, whoz doin better now?
You are a damn idiot. Led Zeppelin started out as a blues cover band. Nobody is saying they didn't cover blues tunes. Heres the trick though Zeppelin perfected them. The songs that they did write were phenomenal. If you don't have respect for zeppelin then you have no knowledge of music.
Zeppelin's versions of Willie Dixon's tunes were unlike anything that had come before them. Lots of British rock bands were influenced by Mississippi delta blues. It was generally a starting off point for many 60's musicians. Zeppelin took those influences, along with rockabilly, soul, funk, folk, etc. and forged their own sound.
Yeah it's real genius to throw pubic hairs and snots at the crowd. Give a retard a harmonica and you've got TLSS

Led Zeppelin did things no other band has done. When you hear Zep, you don't get them confused with anyone else. How many rap artist use Zep's beats?

Good, at least somebody has the balls to state that Zeppelin just repackaged Willie Dixon tunes.
