Given the high number of Defiant class, Galaxy class and Nebula class ships in the vid, and given how they worded the trailer itself, they are placing this after the end of DS9, at which time the feds and klingons had the tightest of alliances, so yes, barring more information from the site I call noncanon.
@rkcoon According to them it's right when the alliance with the Klingons falls before the actual dominion war. So the Feds and Cards are allied in this video against the klingons. As for the defiant ships, I only saw 2 in the same scene which at the time there was 2 defiant class ships. 1 at DS9 and the other the ended up getting destroyed more down the road against the cards with all those dumb cadets on it. So I would say it's a little more canon then you think. lol

After the events of wolf 359 with the Borg and the Dominion War as well as the reveal of Section 31 I just have to say that those complaining that star trek is about exploration and peace are idiots. You obviously haven't been paying attention to the timeline. At this point there is little left to explore that is reasonably reachable for the Federation and its surrounded war based empires allies or not. Of course the Federation would be more military like by now.
I seem to be a minority, but I'm actually looking forward to this. Sure it may not be about exploration and diplomacy and all the stuff that Star Trek is about, but, at this point, where even Trek has fallen to the sickness of Hollywood reboots, any fan-based ST endeavour is a good one, I say.
I don't know but the name "Galaxy at War" and TNG/DS9/VOY-era Star Trek don't fit well with me. How about a little imagination and enlightenment, for a change...hmm?
It does look good, but looking at the gameplay it seems close to a clone of STO. This is dangerous business, why they would license two very similar games is beyond me. What could ultimately happen is taking a large number of players off STO and putting them here, leaving not enough players to sustain either.

@VIEW8472 hey umm just pointing out that normal klingon birds of prey are roughly the size of an NX class starship possibly smaller and are only crewed by 30 man crews so the klingons would have been able to get back on there feet alot sooner then the federation or the cardassians hell even the romulans
@HateEquallyPeople I doubt that, the Brel Bird of Prey is no longer the mainstray or work horse of the KDF anymore...the K'Vort class heavy Bird of Prey and the Vorcha class cruisers are the work horses and the Klingons were in three different wars...the Cardassians, the Federation, and the Dominion so to rebuild their forces would actually take longer than the Romulans or the Federation.

Well I think this looks awesome! Never played a Star Trek game before (and I've only been a fan of the franchise for about 1 1/2 years so I don't know enough to get nitpicky yet like so many of the commenters!) but I am really excited for this. I suppose it may be a letdown, but for now I'm just gonna watch the trailer again. :D
@IronSkull43 I dont need to check, I know my Star Trek, And if anywhere it has mentioned that there are 6, It is certainly a non-cannon source. But we know for sure there are at least 2, The prototype which is named after the class and the Enterprise which may or may not have been built after the Sovereign. Ergo 2 we know of for sure.
@Roper34 To make a battle really dramatic, they've decided to remove the shield bubble effect. they still have shields, but it looks a little bit like a star wars battle...
@KirkTOS1966 No There are no sheilds, Bubble, Hull hugging or otherwise. And if they did have hull hugging sheilds there would still be a visable effect like in Insurretion and Nemesis. It can still be made dramatic with sheild effects, I would prefur a more realistic video / game than a "dramatic" or un-realistic battle. So unless the captains of those ships are thick, I would rather see Star Trek games as realistic as possible.
@Roper34 Look at deep space nine (sacrifice of angels for instance). The whole battle was fought without shields. I think the reason what because the shields would clash with other ships in that close proximity or something like that with the size of the fleets involved. not sure though.
@Roper34 it seems that way in the show alot of the time to, when ever theres a big fleet battle ships take damage the first shot like they forgot about shields and just started shooting :)
@Roper34 I'm disappointed with game developers these days, their lack of detail is pure laziness. They are looking for that easy dollar in my opinion.
If so why, there are plenty of planets to look up that most likely have plenty of resources... I don't see the purpose of war if technology is that advanced that we can fly around in space and gather resources or anything else...

Man, the Federation is getting beaten quite badly here.
Their ships go up in flames about as easily as Imperial Star Destroyers do in Star Wars (the Return of the Jedi, comics etc.).
I think the Federation ships look cool (most of 'em at least), it's hard to see them blow up so easily (likewise about the SW Star Destroyers).
But I'm actually looking forward to try this game, it's free and casual.
Plus there's a good possibility of some DS9 characters being in it (my fav. Star Trek show).

It does look good, but looking at the gameplay it seems close to a clone of STO. This is dangerous business, why they would license two very similar games is beyond me. What could ultimately happen is taking a large number of players off STO and putting them here, leaving not enough players to sustain either.

This trailer really makes no sence,since the klingons after the dominion war were left really weak and so were the cardassions.The only power left strong after that war where the romulans and the federation and here we see the federation needing help from the cardassians

@VIEW8472 hey umm just pointing out that normal klingon birds of prey are roughly the size of an NX class starship possibly smaller and are only crewed by 30 man crews so the klingons would have been able to get back on there feet alot sooner then the federation or the cardassians hell even the romulans

@HateEquallyPeople I doubt that, the Brel Bird of Prey is no longer the mainstray or work horse of the KDF anymore...the K'Vort class heavy Bird of Prey and the Vorcha class cruisers are the work horses and the Klingons were in three different wars...the Cardassians, the Federation, and the Dominion so to rebuild their forces would actually take longer than the Romulans or the Federation.

@VIEW8472 Lightsabers, Jedi, Sith, Star Destroyers, Master Yoda, Death Stars, X-Wings, Tie Fighters, not being dull - The list could go on with reasons for Star Wars being better than Star Trek. But the number 1 reason is that Star Trek wouldn't be where it is today without the original Star Wars being so successful.

@Nubnib I'm pretty sure Star Trek came first, original series started in 1966, Star Wars wasnt released until 1977 11 years after Star Trek first aired so Trek already had a pretty big fan base before Star Wars even came out...

this is why they only made shows about Kirk, Picard, Janeway and Sisko. They are the only captains in the federation who have learnt the "Shields Up" ability. i would have mentioned Archer too...but he was just a hologram

@SteveJS1985 Uhm that wasn´t exactly a hologram it was a simulation of an event that really happend in the star trek-Universe. Riker was just learning from early Starfleet history. that was the point of the episode.

@bucklin1 the Nabula class is not just used for science missions,they can be refit to serve as powerful combat vessels just like the Galaxy class,it stats that in the info for the class

Well I think this looks awesome! Never played a Star Trek game before (and I've only been a fan of the franchise for about 1 1/2 years so I don't know enough to get nitpicky yet like so many of the commenters!) but I am really excited for this. I suppose it may be a letdown, but for now I'm just gonna watch the trailer again. :D

@IronSkull43 I dont need to check, I know my Star Trek, And if anywhere it has mentioned that there are 6, It is certainly a non-cannon source. But we know for sure there are at least 2, The prototype which is named after the class and the Enterprise which may or may not have been built after the Sovereign. Ergo 2 we know of for sure.

@Roper34 To make a battle really dramatic, they've decided to remove the shield bubble effect. they still have shields, but it looks a little bit like a star wars battle...

@KirkTOS1966 No There are no sheilds, Bubble, Hull hugging or otherwise. And if they did have hull hugging sheilds there would still be a visable effect like in Insurretion and Nemesis. It can still be made dramatic with sheild effects, I would prefur a more realistic video / game than a "dramatic" or un-realistic battle. So unless the captains of those ships are thick, I would rather see Star Trek games as realistic as possible.

@Roper34 Look at deep space nine (sacrifice of angels for instance). The whole battle was fought without shields. I think the reason what because the shields would clash with other ships in that close proximity or something like that with the size of the fleets involved. not sure though.

@Roper34 it seems that way in the show alot of the time to, when ever theres a big fleet battle ships take damage the first shot like they forgot about shields and just started shooting :)

A minor question, why is it war in space?
For resources?
If so why, there are plenty of planets to look up that most likely have plenty of resources... I don't see the purpose of war if technology is that advanced that we can fly around in space and gather resources or anything else...
