  • Rap and hip hop is definitively what we make it, so we can change it

  • honestly this was my theme song i still would get down everytime i hear this this beat just cause you to get open and make you push your skills on the floor.i like this better than planet rock because the beat is just unadlutrated raw

  • so this is where the "black israelites" got there sense of style from!!!

  • rap been dead for awile!!!

  • This brings back flash backs, I grew up on the west coast but we all listen to and jammed East coast music, The pop locking, moon walk, all came from their from street dancing.

Even MJ new that and he used it in his dancing.

  • Soul Sonic Vs Justin ( Who ) Bieber ( White Fag ) Soul Sonic Hah ha

  • Lets go!! xDDD

  • This is the shit! I was a little kid (under 10 years) when this stuff was hot and it still sounds as fresh as was back in the early eighties!! That's why it's classic!!

  • i wish i was back in time why do we have to go foward in time

  • Can i say O lder G od

  • one of the best hip hop video of all time. thank god for you tube!!!!!!

  • incredible ! i remenber when i heard this for the first time at 12 age

  • A lot of rap is Gangster rap=Gangster crap. What a waste

  • this is original electro funky

DJ Kurts From Brazil to World Hip Hop....

  • Rap was the language of freedom...now is nothing but a fashion parade...that's not what black people need! Fight the power!

  • this is sooo strange but I like that^^

I love the last scene of the video...also this scene where they are transparent on a city...but why aren't there any interesting bands fame today??

...don't get why everything has to sound the same the labels promote it anyways so long until people like it!! xD

  • Nothing but a CLASSIC!

  • Still got this on 12"" Timeless

  • lucky man!

  • damn that 808 is killin it!

  • i like rage against the machines version better...

  • of course you would.

  • @abSOULuteD whats that supposed 2 mean?

  • you just have different taste

  • I love this era of HIP HOP! The music nowadays is garbage!

  • THIS WAS THE BEST TIME FOR HIP-HOP

  • i can't help but brag - my friend is a promoter, and is bringing Afrika to our town for a show, and as part of the contract my friend has to take him out to breakfast after the show............. and he invited me to go with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so in about 2 weeks, i will have the honor of meeting him! anyone who has a question for him, please pass it on and i'll post it back for you. i'm afraid i won't know what to say. :)

  • what are his feelings about hip hop these days? thanx

  • for a start, you could ask him if he's still got that cape- that is a nice cape!!

  • This is one of the most underrated joints of all time.Great jam and great way of keeping the song going.

  • arthur baker....WHAT A PRODUCER!!!

  • Bambatta reminds me of Sun Ra. From the music to the outfits and his innovation, you can see the similarities.

  • ol skool, reminds me of the ol graffiti,

running around in the night tagging trains, walls etc.., the markers, ink, spray cans, lol

  • Awesome song!

  • so this is the original.. Quite different from RATMs version

  • to each their own.

  • if it wasn't for this there would be NO rage cover.

But I like em both equally.

  • i dont rember what i wrote, but you'r right. i'm sorry if i bother someone whit my comment.

  • Unlike anything else

  • thomas paine...it seems like common sense that it is the correct lyric

  • wow

  • Ruling.

I think they refer to Tom Payne...

    still one of the best,

  • At 0:59 they say 'Tom Hanks'? He's not much of a renegade is he? Although I liked BIG.

  • They say Thomas Paine, not Tom Hanks

  • Sound like Tom Hanks to me - that time anyway..

  • @bengough its Tom paine not tom hanks.

  • i'm 35 still pop and my twist'o'flex is my singature.

plus i stil got a fresh windmill..

    never stop

  • well, congratulations on that lol

  • your tha man

  • Takes me back to the 80's I HAD A BALL!!!!!!!!This is killin the crap the kids have now. 40 this years and lovin it!!

  • thats funny because without this version rage wouldnt have one, you idiot.

  • both versions are cool.

  • no matter what, the 80's will always be the most futuristic time period(or decade at least) ever

  • hahah yes awsome

  • true dat

  • jet set radio would be rad with this in the background

  • Official music video for the 2008 Obama Presidential Campaign =)

  • uhm... not!

i think, at the moment it's quite naive to call obama more a renegade than a hypocrite - we'll see what future brings us

    Pease!

  • Great show & song! Peace love & unity. Up to date...

  • Now move, sucka!!Old school!!

  • shown on the bbc arena beat this a street history of hip hop in 84

  • And i got on video ;)

new york city breakers on it i believe :)

  • True Dat!

Gotta love that Old School Hip-Hop that preached a message of social consciousness and positivity!

    Peace \/ :-)

  • I agree , I hate that a lot of hip hop now is rappers bragging about how much money they have, how many women they've fucked or how many people they plan to shoot, thats not what hip hop is about

  • Unfortunately that IS what it's about, now. Rap is dead and burried.

  • Are You talking about rap in general or rap on TV and the radio?

Because what You see on MTV is like grain of sand in the desert.

don't judge rap basrd on that.

  • @quilope NO, because that stuff IS NOT HIP HOP... I put it in the bullshit genre, and that should be for u 2

  • @quilope

    In USA maybe...

but in spain and chile, is better than ever...

  • @quilope Yeah thanks to Eminem

  • Lick my lingham and swallow my flow

  • i like the rage against the machine cover of this

  • I like most of ratm songs and I also like their cover of renegades of funk, as much as I like their video, but actually THIS version is absolutely AMAZING, both music, lyrics and video look INSANE, it's just a GREAT piece of history

ratm in my opinion did a great job with their version, and it is wonderful that they gave more popularity to this song and decidead somehow to celebrate this kind of music scene.

  • IVE got this on 12 im going to place it me birds svinker again. She's a big bitch. Give her the clap again

  • I used to be no fan of cover songs, I have no problem with them now, I still think in pretty much every case the original was better. I also like RATM, but their version was not a funk song, which I always found ironic. Maybe thats the renegade part though...

  • i just wanna say taht if they not than who?

  • Breakdance heyday

  • Superrr

  • Legends.

  • Great song

  • AWESOME <3 THESE FUNKY BRO'S

  • umm...RATM all the way

  • fuck off dork this was way before ratm ripped this song, headbangin tosser.

  • yo dont hate on him hes prolly a rock music enthusist

  • i hope you don't look down on RATM for 'covering' this song. they obviously respect them or else they wouldn't have bothered. if it wasn't for RATM, i wouldn't have discovered the original version. they are paying tribute to them by covering their song and giving them exposure to a different generation.

And RATM are also very good at their craft

  • it's no big deal. why are you getting so uptight about it?

and there is definitely nothing wrong with RATM. it's not my problem you're an arrogant prick with a serious attitude problem and nothing to show for it except a lot of bitching and negativity over the net. chump!

  • you say i am an "arrogant prick with a serious attitude problem and nothing to show for it" i wonder if you realise the irony in what you just said lol. that makes no sense at all. you know what cunt? opinions are like assholes - everyones got one and i do so if you dont like it fuck off i'm allowed to state my views on this WITHOUT your lame ass intervention as much as anyone else :P

  • dude, really, you're an asshole

  • and proud. its funny how people like you bite so easily.

  • You sound like a pair of svinkters. Chocolate speedway riders...Go and renegade the funk. PEACE TO THE SVINKTER

  • what you know about Romeo JD of the Boogie Boys.them cats was underrated they had a swagga that was sic even back then..when HIPHOP gave us the FRESH FEST Tour Boogie Boys,Whodini,RunDMC,Dougie Fresh and the get fresh crew, Kurtis Blow.and some artist youngin will never know of O.C. and Krazy Eddie(of the fearless 4) Cold Crush Brothers, but The Boogie boys (Fly girl)4eva a classic "one of these days you'll be on the top of the world/ and i'll be on your back fly girl" now that's fresh

  • Props for RATM reviving such a brilliant track and introducing it to a tottally new generation of ppl.

  • haha!

much better than the shitty RATM cover

  • For sure. It's the original of course it's going to be better. On the other hand, hearing a dog shit would be better than RATM.

  • Now hand clap!

  • yes, this is foundation music. respect that! was part of the movement in ´84 in sweden. then hiphop was all about peace, love, unity and having fun! it was a unity thing across all bordes..not like it is today:sex, violence and drugs..wack!

  • This and Looking for the Perfect Beat were my favorites.

  • peep how the B-Boy emerges from underground at the end of the video. That was symbolic to hip-hop's rise from the underground.True Renegade Music--Real HIP-HOP!

  • True can be symbolic but I don't think they were thinking that back then. Just dude coming out from hittin a few cars and stations underground and coming up before daylight.

  • YE!! Do you ever remember the Tommy Boy Mega Mix?????? Why dont we have tunes like this today... Oh yes I was a break dancer back then..
