  • My father's inspiration. It's like I'm listening to him.

  • Gracias por compartirlo.

  • Am I the only one who thinks he plays too frilly

  • All this class, elegance, virtuose.

    Couldn't read a single note.

    Breathtaking, to say the least.

  • id be sweatin' to if i was playing like that guy!!!!!!

  • seriously 10 people didnt like this.

  • Great. He can play the piano without even looking at the keys.

  • Magic

  • itu jari....

  • God needed a pianist in heaven.

  • How the hell did I miss THIS one? Thanks - and a Happy New Year!

  • He was a magnificent self taught pianist

  • genius no doubt

  • The best, one of the best! I have no idea why the people of my adopted country decided that he is less human than white people? Now I know, they envied him for his talent like they envied Ella or Louis Armstrong and many other geniuses who happened to be black.

  • HE is from my family!

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • I mean in good way! :D awesome pianist!

  • SHIT!

  • O_O

  • El mejor piano que he escuchado, fantástico...

  • 1:38 stifling a yawn

  • ¡¡¡ BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

  • This is fantastic, thanks for posting

  • Wow, when I closed my eyes and listened, it actually physically tickled.

  • thank you so much for posting this!!!

  • wow thats good quality camera LOL better than videos people post in 2011 LOL

  • That is good, BUT the sound is previously recorded. You can really tell at 2:35

  • @junkmail5417 The video/audio sync on this upload is slightly off, but Junkmail, all you have to do is sync your ear and eye a bit and you can see that he could never have recorded this prior and played it again identically. It just wasn't who Erroll was, either. He was a totally whimsical, spontaneous piano prodigy who excelled at exactly what you see here. One take.

  • He could play the hardest duet by himself and it would still sound good...

  • Superb control. He is playing like drivingby a beach on a weekend.

  • misty on ihana myös laulettuna.

  • Tickling those ivories like its nobody's business.....

  • Just downright disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • his hair is ridiculously shiny, oh and hes pretty good at piano too, haha :)

  • You are so right AmandaToms.. this is music

at it's best. Its gives you a reality check of

    what true music is!

  • @maddadram1 Erroll Garner was also the composer of this song, yet he could neither read nor write music. My channel is a tribute to over a century of pop music with over 800 playlists covering artists, genres & every year since 1900. And my hat's always off to the uploaaders who make it possible to hear all the fantastic music. This is on my Erroll Garner list & the 1954 playlist linked below. chuck

  • Erroll Garner was absolutely BRILLIANT!!!

  • Such a nice break from the commercial hits of today!

This is true music at its best.

  • Must show this to my friends on Facebook!

  • Beh,da rimanere a bocca aperta.Davvero grande Erroll Garner.Ultimamente lo sto apprezzando molto più di quanto è stato considerato nell'ambito della storia del jazz..

  • ma,fantazija, malo kasnije stižemo ali još uvijek na vrijeme,love....

  • Amazing :)

  • Sweeet:)

  • here because of james blake

  • awesome....

  • the best version of misty on piano ever ive heard. Great Work great artistry.

  • Awesome. TY l for posting.

  • ♥so cute♥

  • Valami fatasztikus játék,köszönöm,hogy láthattam,hallhattam.

  • Play Misty for me.....

  • I can't quite get over the fact that he matches a jaw-dropping ability to play that piano like he has 4 hands with an amusing nonchalance in the way he keeps glancing around the room as though he's slightly bored with his off the scale level of talent! What a stunning musician.

  • So Wonderful

  • If you dislike this, all 8 of you, what the fuck are you doing listening to Errol?

  • look at those ivories getting tickled!

  • One of the most beautiful music, played by its author who was a wonderful pianist

  • I guess we all know just what an amazing an totally saisfying pianist this genius was, but all those sounds come straight from his heart and brain - never having 'studied' music.

  • asian american sing misty more please take a look

  • damn, he's got some shiny hair

  • whoever disliked this needs to go jump off a bridge because this is incredible...

  • ugggh this is amazing <3

  • Amazing piano playing, fabulous sound, love itXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • One of my favorite jazz pianists. WOW! Right up there with Tatum and Peterson and Shearing and Waller and Wilson and Jones!!!!!!!

  • @dnettles How about Bill Evans?

  • @Syllerud I respect Bill Evans greatly. However, the other pianists I mentioned speak to me much more. I prefer the two-handed pianists who could play in a variety of ways...stride, block chords, concert piano influenced, etc. These folks could play solo piano and yet easily fit into a combo or ensemble.

  • beautiful

  • He's so sick with it, he looks like he's taking a walk in the park. My fingers would have curled up and died from exhaustion in the first ten bars.

  • god da op zijn knopkes drukt

  • i imagine those dislikes are more likely to be spasmodical reflex dysfunctions. they can't be intentional!!!?!!

  • To introduce someone to jazz piano.........it's Errol......you can anticipate 25% of his improv and then accept the 75% as a pleasant surprise.

  • Does anyone out there know if anybody was ever able to capture Errol's style in sheet music. I know he was never formally educated to music and that I'm probably s--- out of luck but if anyone knows, email me at tcmenninger@yahoo.com, and Much appreciated in advance. I could try to do it by ear, but that could take a life time and not sound anywhere near "the truth"... Thanks

  • @tonycurti1 all i can tell is that he understood that beauty was in perpetual movement, as in constant musical motion

  • @tonycurti1 if u type in "erroll garner transcription" u can find a transcription of "teach me tonight" and "memories of you"

  • 8 dislikes wtf?!Oo why the fuck would anyone dislike?

  • @mysteriousDSF

Stay cool... It's them, not us.

A certain percentage of the population are stark-raving whoopie.

Just chalk it up to broken spirit-neurons.

    ;>)

  • @mysteriousDSF Just like it, why should u care of people disliking it ? :)

  • What lovely music! It feels like a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

  • Pure genius

  • A great example of the INFINITE potential in our Errol Garner.

  • can i just watch one youtube music without hearing about Justin Bieber?

  • Erroll wrote this while on a plane, when he looked out the window and saw a rainbow. It came to him while flying through the clouds, which is exactly what I feel like when I listen to the man with the "Left Hand From God" play. Thanks to my father for playing his Concert By the Sea album throughout my childhood. For me, there will never be a better-loved jazz record. I love how he involuntarily moans while he plays. He is pure inspiration.

  • I think he's not just a musician but also a hypnotist. Why? While watching this video I was totally mesmerized! Jaw dropped to boot! Wonderful artist. Thanks for this video.

  • Damn this is in HD...that's brilliant( Yes.... I intended for the pun to be there)

  • aaahhhhh!!! Makes my hear sing!

  • Dream like, he just caresses the keys. I believe he never read music either, just a pure and simple artist. MAGIC!

  • The beautiful song, the unreal technique, oh no... I cried a bit watching this.

  • Oh my, this is incredible. Such a fluid imaginative player.

  • He's no Bill Evans, but I'll be darned if I wasn't floored by this piece.

  • i just cant believe he's doing that..... amazing!

  • Just heard this on Pandora... I had to see if it was real. Great music!!!

  • im gonna play that bitch Misty, bitches loves Misty

  • Pittsburgh's own .. This guy is the epitome of jazz pianists everywhere.. Those melodies are'nt manufactured they're form the heart.. Thanks Erroll..

  • Holy crap in 7 months there were 4 more dislikes!

  • you can tell when a musician is self taught...they never look at the keys....because they are playing with their heart and soul...and mr g is all that and more

  • This is really beautiful and so much powerful playing! XD

  • This is just so good !

  • Excellent Beautiul !!

  • It´s really a gift to play so well as Erroll Garner piano.

  • Effortless virtuosity

  • i sampled this in my song falling back

    check me out

  • Intense!! A great example of the INFINITE potential in all of us.

  • @funkality no, not in all of us, but definitely in Erroll Garner. the rest, mere mortals, can just listen... he could play!

  • Man he just dances around those keys,

  • why is he playing bass yet?

  • huahauahu! NO WORDS.

  • Nice Hair Errol!

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing technique. Effortless and natural.

  • My all time favorite pianist in command!

  • Does anyone know where his performance of Laura is? it was on a long time ago, but YT took it down, its incredible just like this video... :)

  • That dude is really! good god damn...

  • oh.my.god. He's not even bothering to look at the keys. He makes most pianists these days seem pathetic. Legendary.

  • Awesome

  • Gotta roll a small dubbie behind this one.

    BRILLIANT!!!!

  • sublime

  • Absolutely supernal. Thank you.

  • Love it thanks.

  • True Genius

  • interprétation divine, sur-humaine.

  • ерола гарнера я лублу слушатьи это навсегда......

  • i just love how it doesnt even look like he is playing lol. fasted pianist ive ever seen

  • Dang those chubby little stubs he's got there sure as hell know what they're doing. Most excellent.

  • I found this video a couple weeks ago, and I have now watched it more than Jimi Hendrix's performance of Fire at Woodstock, my former favorite video. This is simply one of the greatest musical performances I have ever seen. Those transitions are equally powerful and delicate. I am a visual artist, and I don't know where I would start to generate something of this imaginative power or right brain complexity. When I listen, I feel paradoxically inadequate and empowered. This is art.

  • @schmitmg1 There's another stunning Video performance by a Saxophone player by the name of Jimmy Forrest. The song is ( Body and Soul ) Make sure it's a live performance by the Count Basie band and he is introduced by Count Basie. His performance is just as stunning and brilliant as Errol's. Like Errol he is is one of the great unknowns. Trust me... When you see it , tell me who's performance is the best, I can't tell..

  • @schmitmg1 well, quite.

  • @schmitmg1 edgar winter did a version of misty on the mike douglas show with vocal and sax that hasnt appeared here yet

  • wow, thats all I can say

  • Errol Garner was way ahead of his time. Sure there were many great Jazz pianist in that era, but Garner was second to none. Just my two of course. His passion for the piano and the music was evident in every key and chord progressions that he executed. SUPERB, EXTRAORDINARY, EXCEPTIONAL, Etc, etc...

  • His playing is so amazing the audio is playing catch up :) .... either that or this was recorded a good while ago... Still awesome though

  • How can someone play so effortlessly and yet so brilliantly? Jazz amazes me. Thanks for posting!!!!

  • Pure genius.......!

  • There's more innate computing power in that glossy head than you'll find in any mainframe on earth.

  • the richness of the harmonization blows me away... love this standard

  • Wow!

  • This type of talent isn't learned...it is born

  • out of sync!

  • He turns to face the camera with a confident smile as the beads of perspiration roll down from his forehead!

    Bravo a great performance!

  • Tabs Please. =P

  • Beautiful!!! Didn't he make it look easy?? Hardly ever looked at the keys. Always loved anything he did.

  • Love it!!!! :)

  • 聴き入ってしまう。素敵な音楽です。

  • i love this song and i love the quality of the video even given that it's from '62

i'm going to visit his grave-site , here in town and meditate and listen to this song on my mp3 player ...

  • @sYnerGyZniGmA but why? that's kinda weird & creepy!

  • @vapid1000 nahhhh , relax

  • Comment removed

  • the soundtrack is behind the video, it makes it impossible to follow as the notes don't correspond to what you see... it's almost painful to watch how he manages to make it sound so easy, using his hands like two crab claws. AMAZING.

  • The 4 bastard children of Erroll Garner disliked this... where's that child support huh?

  • how the hell is he doing that?

  • HES A BIT PASTY!

  • Bedankt voor de upload!!

  • Jazz piano at its best! Reading music is for the immitative, improvisation is for the INNOVATIVE! I'll bet Erroll never played this piece the exact same way twice. The world would never know--or care!

  • Absolute classic, such a beautiful track

  • Genius

  • Wow, he makes playing piano look so effortless. He just plays away and the music surrounds him like clouds in the sky surround the earth.Wonderful.Misty...

  • @monkeywhizz : I beg your pardon, you and him are NOT in the same category.

  • love that intro

  • IS HE ON DRUGS???

  • @monkeywhizz Nope, just enjoying the magical feeling of his composition,

    Peter

  • i love that he never played it the same way twice. so beautiful. i have love for this man.

  • Listen to this, Oscar!!!

    Isn´t it beautiful too?

  • Es uno de los elegidos por Dios. No sabía música y la Academia estadounidense tuvo que hacer una excepción para que este señor ingresara a ella por la puerta grande. Genio indiscutido.!!!

  • Back !...Errol

  • I fuckin' love this guy.

  • Why would I want to load more comments.

  • diamond in the ruff is an understatement

  • I wish I had the skills of Errol Garner, Bill Evans, Art Tatum, Thelonious Monk, and Herbie Hancock all wrapped up in one.

  • @hoother

    don't be greedy

    settle for one

  • @hoother Man, you are greedy. I wish I had the skill of one of their hands. Heck, I'll take three fingers.

  • Some people would view this style of playing as contrived and overblown. Frankly, they can go to hell.

  • @elliethousand I really like this song, but not this version (strange since he wrote it). I prefer the more relaxed piano like the Ella Fitzgerald version. The playing seems to be too fast and busy for a slow tempo, to my ears. So there

  • amazing that he didnt know how to read music right?

  • @gurusage142

    he never needed to.

  • They played his version of Misty in Kroger today when I was there - it made my day :)

  • 4 justin bieber fans and us 374 errol garner fans.......

i think we can take them down.

  • @BASSHEAD89030 Sadly, over 200,000 people could not find EITHER thumb!

  • @BASSHEAD89030 when you like jazz, why are you loosing your time thinking about justin bieber

  • @iwannaberock haha... cause he licks the sack

  • @BASSHEAD89030 I have my children watch Mr. Garner play. God has surely blessed him with such talent. A beautiful song for all to enjoy and cherish. Be blessed.

  • @RichadTheLionHeat

    Amen to that.

  • @BASSHEAD89030

haha just asking do u like willie the lion smith?

  • @BASSHEAD89030 I think we can all agree that today's pop doesn't know anything about its roots, hence it's superficiality. These guys set the standard by which musicianship is measured and weighed.

  • while he plays, he prob thinks about what hes going to eat at home
