Yeah, the Surfliners as well as the Metrolink and Coaster are amazingly popular in Southern California like the Acela is popular in the Northeast.
There generally is a low demand for trains, but in really busy urban area's like southern California, they are extremely convenient as traveling on the clogged freeways can take hours.
@Timsierramist@TrickyEmu 'tis the same for the other Amtrak California Routes - The San Joaquin and Capitol Corridor are always packed whenever I go on either.
@TrickyEmu I take that train to San Clemente..and San Diego all the time.. IT IS always packed!!! PACKED!!! AND if your freaking lucky you get to sit next to some dumbass smoker!!! NO smoking is NOT allowed on the train..but these slack-jawed redneck smoke before the board the train..and THE foul smelling redneck brings his or her's nasty habit with them...THANKS rednecks.
I took a trip from San Diego to Los Angeles on the way home on the coaster/surfliner I saw some pelicans flying really low to the waves (it was October) but if you have never really seen Pelicans outside a Zoo this is an amazing site (also the helicopters around Camp Pendleton)
My God I miss taking the Surfliner from Fullerton to SD. Im stuck on these filty CTA trains in Chicago looking out the window at these ghettos. I'll move to So Cal soon so help me Jesus.
@Branko37 I know what u mean about the CTA trains. They never really take care of their railcars properly. I never rode the Surfliner trains, but I only rode the Metroliner from Philly to New York City and the Lake Shore Limited from Chicago to Elkhart,In.
Yeah, when I was in 4th grade our class took the train up to San Juan Capistrano to visit the mission. It was a very comfortable ride, it was clean, and everyone was welcoming and polite. Plus, we had a private car.
I have ridden on this train before. It's really a fun train, it goes right along the beach for a while. If you have a large enough group they'll give you your own private car.
ahaha something about baby carrots :D random...

Wow! I didn't know that the Pacific Surfliner was that crowded. I thought there is a low demand for trains in the US.

Thanks! Was on this train a couple yrs. ago. Went from San Diego, to new Jersey. 4 days, 3 nights! Had a room, fun!

The Surfliner only runs between San Diego and San Luis Obispo. I think the one you're looking for is "Superliner".

He probabily took the Surfliner to LA Union Station and then hopped on Capitol Limited to DC and then took the Regional Service.
