  • what am i happy to dont work with blender anymore :D

  • @happygamestvfun1 Just give a Linux distro a try. You will notice that it is MUCH faster.

  • @PerverseBannana that only due to windows uses being complete ***** ups

  • I see a lot of comments bashing a guy for saying Linux is faster than Windows, so I'm going to assume that he said otherwise at some point and is getting chewed out for it. Be that as it may, Linux is only as fast as its OS. Windows computers have the capability to become faster than any linux computer if built to do so. Yes it is expensive, but Windows can serve a 3d modeling program better than a Mac or a Linux at any given time, assuming money is put into it.

  • @happygamestvfun1 Linux based?

Linux is the fastest operating systems in the world.

Im using Kubuntu 10.4 to model a Coke Cola can right now.

  • @happygamestvfun1 Linux isn't slow. Windows is slow. It takes about 45 sec. for a windows computer to start, but if it's a linux, it only takes about 15 sec. (maybe even only 10)

  • This tutorial saved my life ! Thx...

  • Awesome, I learnt a lot.

  • @happygamestvfun1 Yes i know

  • thanx for postin that was very helpful

  • CHrist dude, if people want to know how to texture they already know how to move, rotate etc etc. There's no point dedicating 1/3 of the tutorial to that. Then "I'm going to change some settings" what settings? What to these settings do? Don't waste time setting the scene or fucking about with stuff like subsurface scattering for fucks sake.

  • @happygamestvfun1 1: linux is the fastest :P 2: camstudio (the recording software he used) is windows only

  • @happygamestvfun1 my computer is worse. Prob because I have Unity 3.1, blender, 3ds max 9, paint shop pro 8+9, 3 browsers, 4 games, and not to mention all 2GB of files that range from pictures to high poly 3d models. lol, and that is what i can remember.

  • Slow the fuck down

  • Thanks I figured it out ...Finally found a video that explained it. I am good to go now.

    Cheers

  • @happygamestvfun1 and why would linux be slow?

you are not making a point you are just showing that you are not properly educated!

  • the texture isn't showing up in the game engine, can you please tell me how to fix this?

  • What the hell, can it just be click te wall button and draw the wall i mean so much simipler and it workds.

  • @happygamestvfun1

is it linux based... moron, well if anything that would make it a lot faster LOL!!

  • How do i make it look like this when i press p? Not render thought cause i waqnt this in my game :/ Nice Tut btw :)

  • Is there any way i can texture a whole model at one time? Ive got a Richard Western trailer for a game, its going to be orange, can i make the whole model orange from a picture?

  • Cool tutorial.

But how do you texture large areas(such as side of huge building) without making it look ridiculously stupid.

    PS. Tiling maybe?

  • @happygamestvfun1 I have a new one now. I was doing that on a slow laptop. But I've got a desktop now.

  • @cganim8or desktop...? LOL xD

  • @fittekiller

Seems you dont know what a Desktop is.

  • thank u so much man...this helped me out big time.

i knew how to UV unwrap but did not know how to apply the texture, so it can show in the render.

thanks again...love your tutorials, very great. :)))

  • PLS HELP! How can I add a texture on a specific face of a cube (or on all the faces)??? Every time I try, it places the texture on the upper face of the cube...

  • @ICE1ICE2ICE3ICE4

You probably already figured it out by now, but if not then try this Youtube video:

Blender UV Mapping: 6 Easy Steps

  • Thank you very much

    it is so useful

can I ask you a question about uv mapping? I need to do uv mapping for the whole scene with all the objects in it. I could do uv mapping for each object apart but not the whole scene, because I need to export the whole scene at once to MD2 file and render in opengl. the scene was already imported from 3d max to blender

    many thanks in advance

  • when you want to unwrap an object you have to pass in edit mode. after that select all verts and use the u keyboard then a window apear. clic on unwrap and your object is unwrap. you cut your object too with Ctrl-e in edit mode. make some test.

  • @16dtb I could assist u, i know a lot about blender and animating.

  • At 2:03 for the life of me i can't understand what you said and how you unwrapped or whatever, can you PLEASE tell me what to do at that point?

  • @RazAndBullidom Press the "u" button and then click the unwrap button.

  • If i save this as .3ds will the texture follow the .3ds-file? If I want to apply it to another software eg. a gamecreator-software, does this texturing you did on this video work for the software? Thanks for a great tutorial, btw! :)

  • @mrchriss I'm not sure. I don't have any other 3d software to export to except ZBrush, and you can't export textures to zbrush, just models.

  • @cganim8or Alright. Thank you for answering though. And for the tutorial. :) I'll use this tutorial and then just see if it works. ^^ Thanks!

  • Thanks dude great tut

  • thx

  • how to unwrap button?

  • @TheRiyad1 Press "u".

  • very nice tutorial, i just have to mention one thing, u can enter camera mode by pressing 0 on the num pad

  • of all the blender tutorials on youtube I find yours the most useful. thanks!

  • Thanks! :)

  • Thanks for the lesson!!

  • your are a genius, thanks for your help with this :) please continue with tutorials ;)

  • How to do this in BGE?

  • great tut!

  • i have a question that keeps giving me headaches, when you actually acquire an image for UV Unwrap a model, and that model does have a material already, the image you used for unwrap need to be also set as a texture of the material? i migrated from 3D studio to Blender a few months ago, this is the only thing that i don't quite understand well of Blender, UV Unwrap images are independent from Materials?

  • The thing is, that this a very basic example of UV mapping. The reason you need to UV map images is to fit them onto your mesh. You have to assign it as a texture show that it renders. Think of it this way: UV mapping is to setup the coordinates of where the image is going onto your mesh. And setting it up as a texture is so your can manipulate things such as bump mapping, specularity, how much light it emits, etc.

  • @cganim8or

i see, it's bad to be used in a system like 3D Studio's UV Unwrap, there you actually chose a texture already in the material library, also in Blender but here is the thing, my confusion is due that in 'texture' mode in the viewport, the texture stored in the material isn't visible (but in render is) only Unwrapping the object, the viewport show that object's texture which couln't be the same as the one in material at the time of working

  • Where is a good place to get the books?Definetly wouldnt mind polishing this craziness up!

  • HEY GOOD S*IT MAN! You know this stuff like the back of ur hand! I can tell by all the keyboard shortcuts you know. That shows A. attention to detail and B. experince.Definetly will suscribe. And would be kinda cool if you can take request! Just a thought! Keep it up! By the way , can you throw a little slide show video of some of your final renderings?Im sure there tight! Peace!

  • @JennandPaul Thanks for the comment! I do take request, so if you would like to request something, just PM me. I'm going to make a demo reel with some of my best work soon, but I need a few more renders first.

  • this don't work!!!!!! ... >:( HELP ME if i do textured button i don't see my picture i put in pfffffff

  • Are you sure you followed everything correctly?

  • thanks for putting this up but it really didn't help that much. im pretty lost and new to the interface. im trying to get the middle section of a knife model to have a different texture than the rest which has to be metallic. could you do some other tutorials having to do with textureing that could go into more of that?

  • Sure! I'll be sure to make some more advanced texturing tutorials.

  • thanks man, im just getting the hang of the program. pretty amazing what all is capable from freeware

  • Mine just won't open a texture at all, when I try to open it it just stays blank. How do I get it to actually open, I followed everything he did but it didn't work!

  • Make sure you unwrap the plane first, then select an image.

  • hello im trying to make a uv map for a sword for oblivion but every time i apply the texture one of the faces dispears and you can see through it do you have any idea why this is

  • Try recalculating the normals outside. Go into edit mode, press a to select all, and press ctrl n. That should fix it.

  • thanks it works now :)

  • Thanks heaps, really great tutorial

  • Thnaks good for my terrain.

  • Thanks XD

  • How can you remove a texture you uv mapped on to a mesh?

Like I modelled a guy and gave him a skin texuture via uv mapping and now I don't want him to have that texture anymore. What do I do?

  • Just go to the edit tab and look for the UVTextures. Find the skin UV texture and press the x button to delete it.

  • Oh, thank you! :)

  • Hi for some strange reason all of my shapes that are unwapped are pink and don't show and material anymore. could u plz help me and tell me what ive done. thanks

  • Try going to the edit tab and deleting the UV Maps, then re-unwrap them.

  • great tutorial dude

  • i liked too much

    its very helpful

  • Thanks! :)

  • how do u split the screen????

  • You right click the top of the header and press "split screen", then go up to the 3D view and click where you want to split the screen.

  • how do you apply many multiple textures using UV mappings? Like a face for example. You got the eye lids and stuff, eyes? Do you know any good tuts for that?

  • i cant render it...

at 3:33, what did you do, it really unclear...

i changed my setting to yours, but still i keep getting the same result...

  • Those settings were just so that the image would render faster. It had nothing to do with the tutorial. You have to make sure you turn on texface in the material tab, or blender won't know if you want to render the UV texture that you applied.

  • thx i really learned alot from this tut

  • cool

  • thank goodness!

I always knew ow to UV map but I never understood why it wouldn't render, because I didn't know about texface!

  • thanks. helped me a lot. 3 thumbs up.

  • thanks :)

  • Very good UV tutorial, i had to learn the the TexFace button the hard way over many hours of frustration, your the first UV Tutorial that ive seen that felt the need to share that gem.

  • Can i do it on a cube? Or only on planes?

  • You can do it on any object as long as it's a mesh.

  • O thank u thank u thank u So much man

  • it really helps me! thanks~

  • Great tutorial dude
