  • It's been in my favorites almost two years and yet, every time I watch it, I have tears in my eyes and the pictures of Kazimierz bring some old memories. All these beautiful people in the old pictures should have lived long lives and had many offspring to enrich this world...but most of them are gone. My father lost an entire family while he survived in the German POW camp but just barely.

Thank you for the touching video.

  • I'm 31 male from Poland and i know that the past will never come back. The pre war Poland was completely destroyed by Germans. Thats so sad. Those people who died during the second world war could do so much good for the world both polish and jewish nation. Someone did not like it.

  • This song and video makes me cry so much. I love Jews.

Is the name of the singer Bente Kahan?.... Very thrilling!!

  • Who did the translations? I really don't know Yiddish, but the translations are not accurate.

Anyway, what a pain in the heart these poems are; and what we have all lost!

  • Nice poetry and a wonderful singer. A sheynem danke.

  • I'm sorry to say it,but that song sucks.

  • God bless this who will cut your head of =)

  • @cavalucho God bless your mother.. oh, that sharmuta

  • Wunderbar!

  • nicely done. bente kahan sings beautifully, with emotion and soul. the photo montages are very moving.

  • Great.

  • great contribution thank you so much for making the effort.

  • @nudnik1973 Thank you! I'm glad you liked it

Jews and Germans today should be friends.. as Germany has taken great strides in improving relations with the Jewish people.. although there are some Jews out there who still have hatred of the Germans irregardless if they are a new generation or not.. But, I for one am not one of those.

  • isn't she saying "sing my song! my spring song!"? 5*

  • wspaniałe/amazing interpretation

  • Wracam i wracam do tego, każdego dnia!

  • wspaniałe wykonanie!

  • Fuck Nazis, Fuck Hitler!

Assitürken in Neukölln!!!

  • If cracow is so good then go back there.

  • @cobraschlange

    you understand

    nothing

  • Kroke ist sehr schein!

  • It is a shame that this very rich and beautiful language is literally dying out with each passing day. Nowhere in Europe is Yiddish spoken anymore as a first language. It is only preserved in a just few insular Hasidic communities in Brooklyn.

Looking at a Yiddish movie from Poland from 1936 , I can't help but see a civilization sings its swan song.

  • @NativeNewYorkGuy

the good news is that it will be dying for some time to come. A farshlepte krenk.

  • Yiddish is still spoken in Europe as a first language. It is the first language of many in the religious communities in England. Many Jews in Antwerp (Belgium) speak Yiddish as a first language. And as a second language it is spoken by many more Jews. I do though agree with you, Yiddish is no longer what it was, and if the movie you refer to is Yidl mitn fidl then I agree with you, it is a window into a world on the edge of destruction.

  • Hello.. I am a semi-native Yiddish speaker - semi meaning I am also learning it everyday.. My goal is to speak it as if I was one of those living in Eastern Europe at the time. It is by no means a dead or dying language.. and yes, it is a language so dear to me that it is also dear to half of the world's Jewish population as most of us have roots and or came from Eastern Europe.

  • I speak Yiddish... my parents wanted me to have this as my 1st language when I was a child.. I am originally from Ukraine, but a las.. I have forgotten a lot but I just got several books and am taking classes to help me with it.

  • mordechaj gebirtig is incredible.

  • Scheiß Nazis Raus!!!

Translation: NO!! May there be a curse on those who killed and destroyed the Yidish communities in Eastern Europe.. Hitler un zayne dreklekhe banditn hot nit gevunen, vayl mir, di Yidn(dos folk funem seyfer) zenen nokh do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting the video.

  • great video!

but i have to say that frijlingslied is not peacefull song, that's spring song.

anyway.. i realy enjoyed the video

  • Thanks ;) Yes I know, but it's quite impossible for me to change the text now

  • the photos are unique, very special to watch...It is uncredible what you can find in here...thanks

  • i only wish i understood the words

  • First 2 verses:

oy nem guter klezmer dayn fidl in hant

zey vekn mir oyf mayn fargangenem glik.

  • verse 3 and 4.

amol iz geven in a goldenem land

a kluger ben yokhid, a sheyner brilyant.

  • I really do love this....thank you

  • courage et honneur au peuple juif...Merci..

  • Prechtik Lid.

  • Wow ...die Tränen kammen mir hoch.....so viele Emmotionen in diesem Stück

Vielen Dank fur die Video :)

  • "wow"this song leaves me crying my heart out, i get so emotional whenever I listen to it.

  • oh great Krakow...

  • And the correct translation is in fact "spring song." I've seen versions in English that put it as "freedom song" but that's not the original title, although it's very much in the spirit of the song.

  • sorry - it's Frühlingslied (well i guess the yiddish vrsion is spelled something like friling.

But right before that there's a whole untranslated sentence anyway which goes something like "when the first springtime-tree is in blossom syng my song, sing my springtime son"

Could it be that the text is an English version instead of just a litteral translation (you know - really translating poetry is a pain in the you-know-what)

  • Well it's much more of a summary than a translation.

  • Bellissimo e struggente...grazie...

  • That is what real art and passion is called like: It goes deep to the heart and leaves you astonished and profoundly touched. Thank you for this.

  • beautiful ! Bleib gesunt mein Kroke ... Regards from Poland.

  • Yeah.... too bad, Shalom from Poland...

  • i was touched

  • very nice!

  • beautiful..

  • very beautiful :)

  • This is beautiful. Who is the singer?

  • Norwegian singer and actress Bente Kahan

  • I never had a mishpoge.

    Never saw my mammele.

    Kein tattenyu...

and now I hear this, and all that remains to me is tears.

I see those people, those scheene ponim, and I wander...

    "Was it You?"

  • This brought so many memories of Poland and Krakow, my Jewish Community Center and my Jewish friends. It's all in the past now, only pictures remain and my wonderful memories of great times. It wasn't always so great for my family before I was born, they had to escape their town (on mother's side) and everybody on my father's side was murdered, my father survived in POW camp (he was in Polish Army in 39). Life throws us around the world like powns but we always try make the best of it.

    SHALOM.

    GRAND MOTHER KILLED. SHALOM
