The way i see it, Izzy Stradlin & Axl Rose are the main two for the band, Writing most of the critical early music aswell as Izzy writing a huge majority of the guitar pieces, Slash was great too.. Added some very good solo's aswell as intro's, But he isn't really the main concern. Slash fans chill out, Axl fans chill out too, It isn't illegal to like both you twats :P

Axl is not singing as he sang before, and maybe now the actual members are better, but remember this: even if Slash as you say is a middleclass guitarist, he wrote a lot of GN'R songs with Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Axl Rose, so that's why the old line up is better, because they wrote the classic songs of GN'R.
