  • When in doubt, ask Pirillo.

  • I've had both inkjet and laser, the laser will be my first and last of that outdated technology. Why? Slow, first page out takes nearly 5 minutes, VS 5 seconds on a high speed inkjet, and the inkjet can maintain a higher speed once started. Absurd cost per page, my laser costs from 25 cents to $5 PER COLOR PAGE! Inkjet costs pennies even for color. Problems: My laser printer always has problems and needs new parts, and inkjet printhead lasts over 50 000 prints. Laser is obsolete.

  • one note on if you rarely print, it is debatable that lazer is better, because ink jets do tend to dry out, they have a "expiration" date

  • Since he made this video the prices for a small laser printer have gone down. You can get one for about $60 (B/W) now and it's worth it, even if you don't print that much. Those Inkjets may be cheaper in price but you will get frequent paper jams and the price for it's ink is usually higher then what you paid for the printer itself.

  • this was SO helpful - i was looking to change my printer b/c its like every month im going through a cartridge and they're expensive

  • Are those huge screens or is he a tiny man.

  • It depends on the job at hand. Laser jets are great for BIG office printing jobs. Ink Jets are great for photo, film, and all detailed "quality" job types. (office=laserjets / inkjets =home use) In regards to silk screening jobs, laserjets are good for 1 color (flat) printing and inkjets are great for halftone printing with the use of a Rip software. Laser jet "color" printers are new and very expensive (office use). Inkjet cartridges are starting to sell cheaper now, especially refurbished.

  • wwwwww.tonerandinksupplies.co.ukkkk

  • My DELL 1710n gets 6K pages for high yield and 3K instead of 200-300 pages with inkjet

    I got this to replace a HP 2100 and a HP 842C

  • The thing is....i'm rarely gonna use my printer yes so I would kinda aim towards inkjet but when I say rarely printing, I mean like once a year...

The problem I keep running into with every inkjet i've ever had is the ink drying up on the printhead and basically killing the whole printer. I wanna avoid this happening again, so would it just be a better idea to get laser. Also, disposing of old printers is kind of a pain, it's not like I can just throw it in the trash....

  • just have to know what your doing to save on ink. Picture quality laser may last longer. Not sure if the quality is better? Learn to refill your cartridges and refill and fix your print heads. All you need is ink. For $90 bucks you can get 2 gallons of ink. empty virgin cartridges from ebay. Learn to change your chip or reset it. $200 investment you'll be printing for years. All your doing is printing black that's even better. print for a decade lol. Just have to know your machine. The hard part

  • I used to have an inkjet printer, however, since I didn't use it much, the ink dried up, and if I needed to print something, I would need to pay roughly $100 for the cartridges.

I've recently bought a laser printer and I love it, because the toner is dry, so I don't have to worry about refilling cartridges every time I want to print something.

  • lexmark z605 inkjet. 9 years old still going strong

  • @TheAnigai Yeah, my mom has one and she is still happy with it

  • I have had a 150$ Photosmart clog like crazy and it is unused in the back of my closet when i welt Laser

Selling on Craigslist eventully w/out any full ink 20-25$

30-40 if i can find ink at a good price or find the bigger 564 ink on wal-marts clearance pile because HP shrunk 564 this year!

    same with BK and PK

  • I have never owned an inkjet. All my printers have been laser. I have had 10 of them so far - a LaserJet+, an old Mannesman Tally, Laserjet II, LaserJet IIID, LaserJet 4+, LaserJet 6L, LaserJet 4000 (one of the best ever), Lexmark C500, Lexmark C522 (another great model) and my current Konica Minolta 1650EN.

All were second user apart from the Lexmarks and the Konica.

The LaserJet+ and the LaserJet 4 did not last long and were swapped out for the Tally and the 6L respectively.

  • i tried inkjet 2 times first one was ok just ink racked up alot of money but the 2nd one was terrible was a epson you have to replace every cartage and the thing says no more ink ect. when there over half full used it for about 10 prints and gave up on it epson is terrible.

  • thankyou! you always help me with my decisions ... i love nerds!...

  • Laserjet 2100

Had inkjet irritate me so much,i did it!

    NO GOING BACK!

  • I love my brother HL-2170W printer (Laser)

  • i have a laserwriter 12/640

  • any idea how many papers print out from laser toner?

  • @tosh2004 on 4 pages a minute to 25 pages per minute i guesstimate

  • @tosh2004 1500-3000 for personal

5-10k for industrial or workgroup or small office

Small office/industrial/workgroup is what i suggest

  • Laser Printer Costs like a hell

  • @sucky53 they last a long time and there cheaper

  • What's a better laser/fax or inkjet/fax? I need it to have fax and maybe a scanner but still don't know which to get. I don't care for color but do print a lot of documents.

  • What I don't get is why Laser Printers are so friggin big.

  • I have the Epson Artisan 50, the print quality is awesome. :-)

  • Which has a better print quality? inkjet or laserjet?

  • Konica Minolta 5650en color laser printer. Oh yeah! 31 ppm yeah!

  • Epson NX420

  • I recently bought a Samsung ML-1665 Monochrome Laser Jet from Newegg and it's working very well. Found inexpensive re manufactured toner on eBay for 50 bucks and it comes with toner, so I won't have to worry about buying a toner cartridge for a while. Get this printer! It's on sale for 40 bucks!

  • 39.95 for laser monochrome.

  • dude i have an HP LaserJet 6mp that has been used for a good 14 years and has only gone through 6 toners!!!!!!

  • Laser

  • ok im a college student looking for a decent printer/scanner that wont break me and yes i do need the scanner to, a combo would be nice but suggestions for both separate is fine also

  • @zapper922 Hey I am a Uni student as well. I just brought the brother HL 2140.

It was really cheap. $100 or less. It has manual duplex not auto... So that might be a negative point.

But it is really fantastic for its cheap price.

  • Hey nice video. Contact some inkjet vendors I bet they'd send you one to try out. They're much better than they were 7 years ago when you got yours. They print photos better than laser, some are comparable in cost to laser and they're way greener. The only drawback I see these days is in duplex which takes a lot longer in ink b/c it has to dry. Seriously, does the technology really matter as long as you get your prints and they look good?

  • I would prefer Laser, but I have a Brother MFC-295CN Inkjet. The two reasons I got it is the cheaper upkeep price and I will be using it mostly for school. It is cheaper to get ink than toner, especially for Brother printers, but if I had more money, I would definitely get a Laser printer.

  • Well, i have a Samsung CPL-315, And i will never go back to inkjet

  • It's cheaper for me to buy a new printer rather than to buy new cartridges for my old one....

  • i have a question

i lost my starter disc to my printer.

is there a way i can install my printer manually without the disc? and how?

  • @sparklerbombg same here. I lost the cd of my printer and here's what I did: I went to google and type in the brand and model of my printer and it came like 20 links for my drivers. this works with HP at least. Hope I help

  • @sparklerbombg Google the make and model of the printer and their should be a download for the drivers.

  • @sparklerbombg vist the website

  • @sparklerbombg Go to the manufacturers' website you can download the current drivers.

  • You're comparing a small home use inkjet with a business printer to get the results you want, a true comparison would be to compare a business inkjet to a business laser/LED, in this case an HP 88XL cartridge costs $26 and makes 2500 prints, THREE TIMES cheaper per page ($0.01) than your LED printer. Inkjet will always cost far less per page than laser because ink is cheaper to make than toner.

  • @aabsc Oh, and by the way, the inkjet is over twice the print speed in color than your LED printer, and still 3 times cheaper per page.

  • @BankfieldServices Your problem with inkjets is that you're using Epsons and Epsons are in fact absolute worthless garbage. Of course if you're comparing an HP laser to an Epson inkjet then laser will appear better, but the real issue is that your comparing HP vs Epson, compare an HP Officejet Pro inkjet to your laserjet and you'll get rid of the laserjet in no time. You'll also pay about 300% less per page than with your laserjet.

  • @aabsc I'm trying out an Epson and until now I agreed with you. It's a buisness inkjet and it's a bit more expensive to buy, comparable to a decent laser but the cost per page is crazy low. Lower than anything I have ever seen. Maybe they're getting better.

  • @BankfieldServices My HP Officejet Pro L7780 is the same speed as your laserjet but in color. It has done 175 000 prints in 2-3 years without the slightest issue and has 2 paper trays to hold 600 sheets. Your laserjet is no competition. Your laserjet is in fact putting toxic chemicals and ozone in your air and does cause severe health problems over the long term, just like smoking it takes decades before you get diseases from it.

  • I've printed 165 000 pages on my HP Officejet PRO L7780 business inkjet printer and it still works like new. I've also never bought a single ink cartridge since I put a continuous ink system on it so I print color for about a half a penny per page. Even without a continuous ink system it costs 2-3 times less per page than B&W laser. It's also way faster at 35 pages/min (see it in my videos). Lasers have virtually no advantage over inkjet, you have to be seriously misinformed to buy one.

  • @aabsc Laser printers piss all over inkjets - go on holiday for 6 months odds are your inkjet will not owrk when you come back, laser no problem......

  • Comment removed

  • @bcmalloy @bcmalloy Lasers have zero advantage over inkjet, inkjets cost a fraction of the cost in supplies, are way faster, take less energy, and don't pollute your home/office air with toxic chemicals and ozone like lasers do, so there isn't a single advantage to laser printers. HP inkjets can stand for months or years without problems, only Epsons have that problem (I had my first and last Epson which failed after 1-2 weeks)

  • @aabsc FYI, cost-per-page is insanely higher with inkjet. The only thing you get with inkjet is the cartridges are cheaper. But think for a just a second here. A black cartridge for our HP (yes, HP, 94 cart) printer costs about $25.00. That yields, at best, 300 pages. Our new Brother HL-3040cn has black toner cartridges that cost $50 to $75. But wait! Each toner cart gives us 2000 PAGES! HP- costperpage = $.083 Brother- costperpage = $.025 to $.0375. AND, it's a color "laser", too (actualy LED)

  • dot matrix FTW

i got a panasonic kx-p2123 in 1992 and i have only gone through 3 black ribbons and it still works, i still use it for printing as my default printer

works the same today as the day i bought it. so cheap

fuck inkjets, fuck lasers, dot matrix FTW

  • i need something that is great for printing pictures and fairly inexpensive any ideas would be appreciated thank you.

  • Dude Your Annoying... You Just Talk In Circles. Your Audio Is Out Of Sync. You Want Everything To Be Perfect Then Fix This Audio.

  • if he was that annoying then why did you bother to write a comment... think about it... your sitting in front of your computer analyzing another guy in front of his computer analyzing different types of printers.... and your getting angry at him?? sounds like someone needs to get laid. hahaha

  • this is cool video in fact,i just dont like that lasers they are quite bulky

  • I've got a Samsung CPL-315 color laser printer. It pwns, I recommend it :)

  • id like to know what is the smllest ink jet printer you can buy? i want to use it on the go at friends and such.thanks.

  • so witch one is better for transfer paper when using t-shirt designs. can i even use a laser????? please reply

  • Laser laser longer the ink doesn't smear

cause its burned on put it under water no smearing at all, try that with a inkjet printer.

  • what you need is a sweet dady to spank your ass and keep quiet

  • i just got a HP Photosmart C4580 All-in One

  • This is the most exciting video I've seen

  • I just bought my laser this past saturday. I use my inkjet only when I need color now. The laser is 4 times faster. It is a Lexmark e260d

  • This Must The Oldes This Guy Have,

  • i have a canon pixma ip1600 and is that a old old i mean like not made anymore old? i havent used laser yet

  • laser is FASTER? What the fuck are you talking about? Every single laser printer I've ever seen has been much slower than inkjet until you get into the very expensive range. Also, I've heard of several problems with color laser printers where they actually require you to replace ALL the cartridges when one color runs out, how the fuck is that cheaper? I'm not defending the garbage inkjet printes by any means but I don't think laserjet is the panacea you are making it out to be.

  • inkjet for home, laser for office. it's easy. by the way... inkjet has less quality????? really? where? in dreamming laserlandia?

  • would it be cheaper though in the long run to get the laser jets?? i want a printer thats quiet and fast.

  • as they say "ink is cheaper but laser is better" hence I like laser. But ink is cheaper. But Laser is better. I have Ink, but i would like laser. Laser is expensive, ink is bad quality.

  • DuraBrite ink from Epson. Same quality as the lasers.

  • geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!

  • well he makes great money off it

  • Could not agree more, buddy, my first printer was an ink jet-expensive, went thru cartriges like no tomorrow, towards the end of cartrige, terrible quality; just bought my first laser-printer today and i love it, it is a dream, will keep ya posted on its performance, it is just a cheap one (Samsung ML-2240), but that is all I need as I only ever print off flight confirmations, booking times, reservations, etc., etc., you do very nice reviews, by the way!

  • I love this review you did and I'm on the same boat as you. I've owned in the past nothing but inkjet and they've been nothing but slow and those red lines when a cartridge is finishing is horrid. They don't print much pages yet the ink finishes really fast. I bought my first laser printer this year in january and it hasn't given me any problems and it's very fast and quiet while the inkjets I've owned were very loud. The printer I own is a Canon MF4370

  • If you have qeustions concerning Ink Vs Toner (InkJet Vs LaserJet) Let me know. I'm a printer service technicain and I have 8 years in the printing buisness. Some of the information you have posted here is incorrect or insufficient. Take it from a pro. There is always someone near you who is in the same feild as I am. Make call to all of them and go with the one you trust the most. You'll be able to tell those who know from those who don't just by the converation you have with them.

  • ink sucks. I had for 30 papers then empty ink it so quick...

  • I have a canon pixma mp140 and the ink is about £17.99 for black and £21.85 for colour at argos.and i buy the recommended ink cartridges but they are GREAT AND SO CHEAP! so i recommend getting a canon pixma mp140.UKONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You said yourself you haven't looked at inkjets in a long time, I recommend you do. Most business inkjets (starting at less than $150) are faster than laser (35 pages/minute) and cost significantly less in ink than a laserprinter costs in toner. You can also knock the ink cost to about 100 times cheaper than laser by using a continuous ink system. I've printed over 175,000 prints on HP business inkjets and never bought a single cartridge or had a single problem.

  • See my videos to see how fast my HP L7780 business inkjet prints, it's faster in color and lasers are in black.

  • I have a highend HP Photosmart Pro B8850 injet one of the best on the market work the same way as a business class feed the ink tru the lines to the head, love the thing print very good but no way can do 175,000 pages on a single cartridge only about 250 page if even that. (And your using a continuous ink system with it, most people won't now how to installed one, and buy $100 injet printer, won't expect people to pay $800 for a printer and $129 for the ink system.) A decent laser $350-$600

  • I never said I did 175,000 prints on a single cartridge, I said I did 175,000 without every buying a single cartridge because I use a continuous ink system. The Business models do about 2500 prints per $25 cartridge if you don't want a CIS, but the CIS costs less than the cartridges and is no harder to install than installing regular cartridges, if you know how to replace the cartridges you can install a CIS. They also have it in a printer only model, the K5400 for about $100-150.

  • Anyone heard anythign good about the clp 315 or clp 315w?

PCMag picked the clp 315 as an editor's choice, but I was wondering if anyone else liked it

  • Anyone know anything about the Brother 9840CDW?

I would like a color laser printer with duplex, some networking, and all-in-one (including fax). and this one has it all. adn prints fast.

  • Never mind about that one I don't need AIO or duplex or network, ill get a cheap print server somewhere like eBay.

  • Check the HP L7780, I have a video of it in my videos. It's faster than laser (35 pages/min), cheaper per page in ink, much higher print quality and does both duplex printing and scanning.

  • Laser all way, reason is they last a lot longer get about 1000 pages color and over 2000 black and white on one toner my Samsung CLP-300N which also is networkable, never had a paper jam or given me any problems, and before that, had a laserjet 4m plus lasted over 10 years before it when out. (use a HP Photosmart Pro B8850 for Inkjet for photo only, does very good with photos that no laser can do, but cost more to keep it running and have to clean heads to keep from clogging.)

  • HP business inkjets do about 2500 prints on one $25 black cartridge and over 1000 in color. Any laser will cost much more and print slower. Only the home inkjet printers cost absurd amounts in ink, not the business models.

  • $299 for it is not bad at all, is worth looking at.

  • Don't bother with resetting unless u want to refill really bad. Two years is more than enough time for a cartridge b/c it'll wear out by then. Just use an inkjet kit and you'll have to use a syringe, but you don't need to make holes or anything. Be careful not to poke the mylar bag though.

  • HP 88 is l or xl if black or l if color. The downer with the xl is you gotta be careful with the air getting in during refill.

    To refill a cartridge

-get cmy or b ink refill from the stores.

-get rid of the tape on the top part of the cartridge and open the lid

-use a needle to get the ball plug out and don't lose it otw you just killed of any chances of using the cartridge

    -inject the right ink in

    -put the ball plug back

-stick the needle where ink comes out and pump to get air out.

  • lol

  • It's also as fast as a laserjet. The only drawback is that I can't expand its memory. I'm still in love with it.

It's color output's gorgeous. The drawback is that the ink can wash off.

  • Chris, I've saved a shitload of money using the HP L7590 inkjet printer, which uses heavy duty 88xl cartridge. I've refilled it lots of times too because it uses a mylar bag and ink is separated from the head. I couldn't afford a laser printer and refilling one cartridge is a lot of trouble and money.

  • Lexmark X5470

  • I have a QMS magicolor 2 desklaser.. its a bit disappointing due to lack of quality and compatibilily

Brother MFC-8840D - works great no problem

Epson stylus photo 895 is shocking quality, heads clogged up even with genuine epson cartriges.

FORMER PRINTERS: Hp Laserjet 4.... it lasted 12 years and it is my favourite printer so far.. my dad decided to toss it out for some reason :S:S.

  • I agree that laser printers are great for high quality prints, and maximizing lowest cost per print. Inkjets work great if you don't have that extra cash it takes to buy the laser. If you buy a printer inkjet or laser spend a reasonable amount of money on it. Cheap printers ususally give you the most headache. I prefer HP laser printers. The work great will labels and other materials like card stock.

    Thanks!

  • I still use a Panasonic KX-P1124 Dot Matrix printer. I only use it for text and ribbons are cheap.

  • HP-IIIp laser, from 1990, black and white.

still very high quality, cleaned once,

laser prints are rainproof, mechanical drafting pages, toner cartriges are cheaper in the long run if you print a lot.

  • buy recycled cartrides from a local recycler. You'll find them in your phonebook. you'll save even more and the prints will be just as good. I'm guessing you've had it serviced a few times. I haven't seen an HP III yet without at least a 50 service error

  • i have recently purchased a hl-4070 cdw bother color laser printer it print`s ok graphic`s only when printing image`s off the internet...when i try to print graphic`s from the nero dvd create software i am using the color quality is is really...really poor it doesn`t match the color from the screen...i mean has anyone else had issue`s like this?

  • Laser = $100 HP

    Inkjet = $40 HP

    refuse to spend more

    nuff said

  • lol

  • Lasers all the way.

  • I have a Brother HL-2700CN laser printer (actualy it's my dad's printer) and I don't like it. I think the overall quality is only medium... I think my HP Photosmart 7260 has a better printing quality when printing photo's.

  • I have had several inkjets most recently I've owned the HP 7410 with 802 WiFi built in and duplex capabilities, I loved it. I recently purchased a the HP Color Laserjet 2840, I disappointed one because of the lack of the built WiFi and duplex capabilities, but I agjusted by adding a router. The one thing I could not over look was the inability to use the borderless or bleed printing. I am therefore arranging for a return of the unit.

  • i have an all in one printer LExmark x5270, which is pretty good.

  • WAX JET!!!

  • Hell YEAH lol Textronix now know as XEROX. They bought them out for around 1.4 bill.

  • brilliant site, the guru, brilliant

  • i just got a laser printer for one reason which is printing on transparent paper, i've noticed that on an inkjet the ink runs off the plastic paper and goes everywhere.

  • visit my channel and check out my quilt video also my website becbo. com for bargello quilt patterns and designs

  • Laser all the way.

  • Brother HL-2070N

i switched to the laser printer last quarter in college as i was getting sick of ink jets constantly running out of ink or drying up or needing alignment and so forth.

this laser printer cost $80-90 at office depot on sale and has a built-in NIC so i just hook it up to my network and have no need to leave a printer server running and so on.

laser printing is such a relief after suffering with inkjet printers most of my life.

    -MArk-

  • Inkjet, the Printer cost £10 more than a Replacement Ink Cartridge would... and it has a Scanner built-in. I rarely Print though, and enjoy viewing and sharing Photos in digital form, so I only use the Printer for documents, and I use it so little that I'm still on the 1st Mono Cartridge after 7 months.

  • I actually don't have a printer

  • I use inkjet but I haven't had any experience with a laserjet

  • I would have to say....Chris has the best job in the world......

    -DMShortFilms-

  • me pdf..no no printer

  • I finally went Laser and cheap. I bought a Brother HL-2040. I've had about 3 previous HP color inkjets but quit because I rarely used the printer and the cartridge and heads clogged up. Laser doesn't seem to have issues with infrequent use.

  • I have to printers, firts is injekt hp photosmart C3180, an the second is a HP LaserJet M1005 MFP, but i preferd the HP LaserJet M1005 MFP it's faster and beacause i only printer documents, e-books the hp photosmart C3180 it's very expensive

  • I DONT HAVE A PRINTER!!! it's call PDF

  • con

  • i dont have a printer on my computers but my has a epson ink jet and she has had 2 in the last 3 years because they burn out epson inkjets printers are not as good as good as they use to be but i get a printer it will be a laser because they may cost more up front than a injet but they work out cheaper

  • True!

  • fdsfgs

  • Canon PIXMA MP830 is my printer...the thing is absolutely amazing, does everything from double sided printing to faxing, scanning, copying, and it prints up to 9600 by 2400 DPI. It prints pictures at a higher def then what i can get at a local print shop..which is great.

  • My HP laser can do about 10,000 print jobs before needing to replace the toner. Itr was $800.00, but soo worth it.

  • lexmark X5470

  • Its a HP Printer scanner idk what numer or w/e but I like it. HP always is quality

  • i agree with Chris ink jets dry out if u dont use it that much and laser lasts for some time without using it that much i prefer laser jet its a good buy

  • The HP Laserjet 1020 is incredibly cheap and works very well.

  • Chris, you made some very good points. I'm currently using an HP photosmart 7350 and while it's been an excellent printer for the last 5 years, we spend an awful lot of money replacing the cartridges. We do print photo's every once in a while and it does take alot of ink. A black cartridge and color cartridge will probably last 2 maybe 3 months tops in our house. After watching this video, I'm seriously considering switching over to a laser printer.

  • I have an HP Inkjet

  • seccond!

  • First. Not everyone ahs a Printer as a pheriphial. The most noteable and definatly more guaranteed to have periphial is a mouse, keyboard and monitor not a printer.

  • No, monitor, keyboard, mouse then speakers then everything else in that order

  • True. Thanks for the input. =)
