  • Great! Karajan was genius!

  • It´s a pity though that one are not allowed to keep a recording like this in One part because of the time frame here. I hate to break up music! :)

  • Thank you for all the nice comments, guys and dolls!! :)

It is really nice to see all of you enjoying as much as myself!

I am aware the frequency range of this posting is limited. There is a bass drum, producing very deep sounds :) , added at the end that really flutter the membran of the bass elements in my speakers - each time I play this LP I am waiting to enjoy that particular part - along with the other parts ;))

  • Thanks! I had this on LP too. It has never been equalled!

  • My frined played this for me in my twenties on a quad speaker system and i nearly died what a blood rush love the flow in this peice im forty five now and it sounds better now if anything WoW I know that some of you are purists but I just enjoy goood music wherever I find it and this is right at the top of the game

  • WONDERFUL! I have to admit that it's quite comical to hear the canon sounds without seeing anything

  • So THIS is what being high is like!

  • v!!

  • This is a fantastic recording.

  • Spectacular! TY.James & n.j.s for posting

  • A magnificent performance! Thank you!

  • @CanadaPisces

Thank you for sharing, James. I always liked this piece of work.

  • @CanadaPisces 100% Agree with you!

Herbert Von Karajan + Berliner Philharmoniker & 1812=Magnificent!

Being a big Karajan fan, I've bought this CD for a long time & it's great to have it in my You Tube Playlist ! Thank you for sharing, James!

Many thanks to ynilsjohansandvik for the great post!

    Helen : )

  • You are right, this is the best version, in my opinion. I certainly can listen very, very few versions of this piece, because I've been spoilt by Karajan from a very early age. ;)

Many people don't like him, but there was nobody who could elicit "drama" of any given piece of music from the orchestra. He interpreted music like their authors did, I think. I like that.

I only wish the bells were better audible, but I know this version from a record i have, so I know they are magnificent.

  • the best

  • the best

  • lol at 5:58 it sounds like a dragon

  • DAMN! where is Jaroffs Cossacks at the end??

  • win! Great upload thanks!!

  • Von Karajan was a master of dramatic finales. The movement of the tempo at the end is absolutely brilliant, never lets you go. Thank you for the video!

  • QUE OBRA MAS MAGNIFICA!!!!!!

Narra cada momento de la invasion de Napoleon a Rusia y su derrota.

    UNA VERSION ESPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!

  • THNX very much

We used to listen this one when I was just a little kid.

My brother and I loved the part with the canons and asked my father to play it over and over.

  • Guys, please don´t bring any politics or beliefs into this. It is music we all are here for. Thank you.

  • @nilsjohansandvik ...and that music has political and religious connotations. It was very clearly the composer intention or else he wouldn't have used the "Lord save thy people" hymn.

  • Joining a party doesn't make u accepting its ideas.

since u coudln't make any music outside, he has chosen his love for music :(

  • fascinating interpretation. pity he joined the Nazi party. but still. absolotely great. the tempos at the end- really strong.

also, they have one of the best canon sounds i've heard: good base-like canons. I really ought to find out what canons are these. anyone?
