It's really disgusting the way our own government is denying the education of these individuals. We have to get rid of the bureaucracy by ending NoChild Left Behind, pull out of what are in fact illegal wars in effect saving us billions of dollars every year, and assign equal distribution of the funds to all our schools nationwide. Then we'll see improvement.

Where can I find itemized details about Hayward's budget plan for the coming year? For example, "We plan to spend $__ quarterly on __, $__ monthly on __, $__ weekly on __?... Fees? Pools? Libraries? Pensions? Services?" I'd like to see what results in a Multi-Million dollar shortfall. My husband and I made a facebook app for helping people with budgeting. I'd like to see if I can use it for the Hayward budget.

I'm okay with more colossal budget cuts to education. I can hardly afford my prop taxes now. Calif. is bankrupt and you can't just print money like they did in Zimbabwe. Besides, US currency is hard to counterfeit, as I learned from the movie "The Counterfeiters". BTW I HATE that stupid song!!

I grew up in Japan during 70s and 80s. Throughout my public elementary and junior high school years in Tokyo, average class size was 40. I attended one of the better private high school in Tokyo and its class size was like 55. Japan wasn't doing bad during those years academically during those years. I don't really understand those panic over bigger class size (like 30+?) in the U.S.A. I think they are just spoiled. Maybe teachers' union don't want the demand to go down.

I don't have kids, so I don't care about COLOSSAL education cuts. We just have to accept the fact that this country is becoming more and more like Zimbabwe or Somalia. I guess you teachers think we can just print more money like they did in Zimbabwe. (result: 10,000% inflation) If education is that important, why doesn't the state come up with some money by defaulting on the huge pensions that public workers get?

I DO know many teachers that fight for fair pay to set an example to their students who might want to become educators themselves one day.

I don't know of ANY Union execs getting million dollar bonuses. Can you give us some examples? I think you're getting them mixed up with banking execs.

loke - typical Union idiots like you is the reason why I see no Latinos, Blacks, or barely any Californians in my Engineering class. As an undergrad. TA at UCLA when your stupid Union tried to recruit me, under some stupid local grocery/auto labor tag. I was glad I did not signed the dotted line and join the TA Union. Guess what? 1 week before finals, they told the TAs to strike, and anybody caught Teaching was going to be severely reprimanded.

Thousands of students were left stranded during finals week. One physics class I did not TA for had an average around 20% because all the TAs were on strike. As an undergrad you are only allowed to teach 1 class, but during this strike I was asked by my professor to TA for 4 more classes without pay. Grading 300 exams by myself. I did this because, I AM A TA AT UCLA!!! It was an HONOR, and a privilege. As an engineering teacher today, I still feel the same way!

UC Regents and the TA Union went into arbitration on salary negotiations because they wanted to increase my $8.00 salary to $15. The Unions eventually lost, because TAs are not teachers. Because of this Union fiasco, thousands of Lations & Black students flunked Physics. And to make matters worst the TA Union disintegrated and the University black listed them and hired new undergrad TAs, leaving most of my friends without a job. All because the Unions wanted a piece of my $8.00/hr wage.

These educational policies pushed forth by the CA teachers union is the same failed policy that were used for illegals and inner city schools like reform math, bilingual teachers, ...etc. Hence kids from these schools do not even know how to read, write, or do basic math. Why do you think there are any black or hispanic people in Engineering at UC schools? Because they are stupid? Asians are smarter? No, because the CA teachers Union failed them!

Imagine less than 3% of the population of CA paying for almost 100% of tuition of the engineering and science majors of UC schools! Majors that are critical to leading CA out of this recession. Not only do Asians pay billions of dollars to UC schools in tuition, but also when we graduate we pay billions more in taxes when we get high tech jobs. Now CA wants to increase our taxes!!! And for what? for more illegals, more jails? more prison guards?

Nobody talks about how Asian Americans suffers from CA Teachers Union. Asians students suffer from higher college tuition and even worst Asians are ill prepared by the lower standards that caters to illegals. Asian families suffer from high taxes & tuition and we struggle to put our kids into college. We comprise less than 3% of the pop. of CA but almost a 100% of the student body in Engineering and Science majors.

Unlike GM which basically goes belly up, the CA teachers unions & illegals will tarp themselves by asking the stupid CA assembly to increase our taxes so the people of CA will go belly up!!! To educate a kid requires 2 things esp in CA: 1st of all it requires Taxes coming from property tax and state tax! No tax revenue = no education! 2nd, the people must value education; graduate high school & get into college to get a good job so they can pay taxes! Most Latinos do not value education, hence no job so .: they do not pay taxes, and not only that, Latinos put a burden on state by joining gangs, going on welfare, & going to jail .: wasting our tax revenue!
