  • In times of peace, prepare for war.

  • Machine*

  • Why does the person next to the machine gunner (the one feeding the belt) tap the machiner gunner on the head/shoulder etc.? Is it for switching targets?

  • @MARINE9839 Haha, hi mate, when did mankind last agree on anything? :) Not in my living memory. I got ya there, right? :P

  • they had the minimi in WWI and still using it today nooo wayy???

  • Marines, Spear head of the United States armed forces since 1775, They are one our smallest branches of the military yet they are our strongest.

  • They got it wrong. The M2 has been in service since the 1930s.

  • american military video with a british speaker and asian subtitles... how very interracial

  • Was that A-10? Hell yeah baby

  • to save lives and kill too

  • Fuk u stupid united kingdom bich

  • Looks like the Live Fire drills we used to perform at Waiouru Army Camp.New Zealand Infantry Regiment amounts to 2 Combat Battalions, made up of 3 companies,Supported by a Logistics Company.Man I would love for us Territorials to the states and have a JTF excercise with these guys.

  • war is a drug its an addiction for some its a way of life -semper fi

  • Hmmm.. what's up with the guy's stock weld at 0:43?

  • He said that the M2 traces back to 1921. He just said that the individual gun being used in the movie had been in service since 1950.

  • the M2 .50 caliber machine gun being used since the 1950? 1:16 no... earlier than that, it has been in service since WW2, not only for infantry, but it was mounted on tanks and other vehicles, and faster firing variants like the AN/M2 where used in aircraft like the P-51 mustang and P-47 thunderbolt, in fact most American fighters and even a few British fighters, used the browning M2 .50 caliber machine gun!

  • @angryace13

Before the 20mm came out they would Twin mount these on Warships

  • @4everUSNavy

yep, they where often used on ships as well.

  • my favorite gun M2 machine gun 0:26

  • 3:33 video games!

  • 240 gunners are the shit

  • The M-2 .50 HB MG was developed during the 1920s and was originally classified as an anti-tank machine gun it AP cappabilities were so good.

  • Not the 1950's. It has been around a bit longer than that. 1933 was it's service date.

  • RANGE FUCKEN 400

  • USMC all the way !!!

  • all day long

  • BEASTLY TRAINING. BEASTLY. Bless The MILITARY

  • I would disagree that the mg was invented to save lives, the primary goal was to make a weapon that could kill more people much faster than bolt action rifles. The by-product is that it can save lives on your side of the war, but its very devastating against the enemy.

The M2 first saw combat action in World War II, since the early 1940's, so I'm not sure why they say it started out in the 1950's, unless they were referring to that particular weapon in the film.

  • Machinegun actually invented to save lives?

    Sure, idiotic propaganda show.

  • To save our freedom and protect the US.

Name a war or battle that was fought by the US for a bad reason other than the "civil war" and for a bad reason not one that was poorly fought

  • Sir

I was talking about the machinegun not the US army. We cannot say the machinegun was invented to save lives, but actually to take em more efficiently.

If that saves one side's lives it doesn't mean it was the first purpose of the thing to do that.

A war fought for a bad reason?

    The current war in Iraq.

It's on par with the war in the philippines on my "ethical" scale.

    Take care.

  • I agree but, first off we shouldn't have gotten involved in the first place with the middle east but because we did they attacked us back and if other countries saw that than they might try for some reason so i agree with fighting back not looking for items that may be used would be the way to go. im going to stop before i say somethng i would regret but i see your point

    Stay strong.

  • Some could argue that our "imperialistic" activities in the Philippines, Cuba, and other island-countries were somewhat unjustified and only for economic gain. Besides that [somewhat] questionable activity, the US has been the world referee since about the mid 19th Century. Some could argue our current war in Iraq is only for economic gain as well, but we won't know until we look back on it years later, it's hard to judge history as it happens. I don't think it is, but we wont know yet.

  • I like our mindset that we've always had throughout our history, and I think we are the most charitable country in the world. I just don't like everyone that's been in charge of our country throughout history, and I think because of this some things in our history have gone sour and were not right, but I still believe in our overall mission and national character. I think the US has definitely done the most good for the world out of any country, and I love my country. God Bless America

  • Damn right!

  • um wasnt there us citizens in panama, and your a retard

  • @Lorentz101 fuk urself about retard atleast my country (u.k.) doesnt have half the population fat as fuck.

  • @pitballdabest You can sit at your computer talking shit about Americans, criticizing their wars, laughing at their weight, but if those are the only two elements you're even aware of or see America as it's just reflective of your own ignorance (and potential jealousy). When you have countries that have more opportunities than others, there's bound to be people that are jealous and hateful (just look at any high school with the kid that always gets the newest pair of shoes vs. those who don't).

  • @pitballdabest If our country is so fat then why do we have the best military in the world?

  • @pitballdabest At least my country (USA) isn't unacceptably neglectful of their teeth.

  • @pitballdabest at least are women don't look how do u uk douches put this o yes ghastly

  • @XximaproxX lol are women aint fatties and that teeth rumor about uk women is bullshit and usa can suk my 100% british dik

  • @pitballdabest well not half of the American population are fat smart one if your going to use stereotypes on Americans we are going to use stereotypes on you britts

  • Cannot use the heavy MG in urban warfare.

  • Then why do we? It's perfect for punching through walls and kicking insurgent ass all over that place.

  • Hmmmm... I like shooting the Saw and 240-Bravo... though the aftertaste and burn of CLP in your face after going all out isn't that great... Meh, OH WELL!

  • m249 is my baby!

  • The commentator does not know what hes talking about. The Ma Deuce has been around since the 20's and saw action in WWII.

  • Death b4 dishonour is correct, M2 HB- 1923. The M1921 had the waterjacket.

  • Wow, did you even watch the video?

He states that the M2 has been in service with the USMC since the '50s and later states it has been around since 1921.

  • Wow, you're a PHOTOGRAPHER from TORONTO, CANADA!

So you're giving me the history lesson right?

So I guess WWII occurred during the '50s right?

    I THINK NOT!

    HARDY-HAR-HAR REPORTER!

P.S. Don't speak/ type unless you know what you're talking about.

  • I'm merely stating that your comment as it was read did not seem to take into account that the commentator said something seemingly different from what your statement would suggest.

No where in my comment did I say I knew more than you did, nor the fact National Geographic was accurate/inaccurate.

Yes, I am a photographer from Canada. Your point? I'm an MOC ImTech with the Canadian Forces and American to boot.

Besides, it's National Geographic with a Brit commentator.

  • I don't know what I'm saying. You'll have to forgive me, I'm running on roughly two hours of sleep in over a 48 hour period.

My point was that I know for a fact that the M2 was in service before and during WWII within all branches of the United States Military.

I tried to post a link to a website with a photo of Marines using the Ma Deuce but youtube would not let me post the comment.

    My

  • Personally, NatGeo isn't a great source for military history. With that said, even the History Channel Network gets it wrong.

    No worries.

    I take it you're USMC?

  • he said 1921. which would be the 20's

  • The commentator?

  • yeah skip to 2:10 he says 1921

  • Yes, you're right. But, we were actually talking about the service length of the M2 where the commentator made a small mistake... it's no big deal.

    1:17.

  • gotcha

  • Comment removed

  • nowadays you rarely see countries fighting countries, it's countries fighting factions, or organizations, or insurgents. the textbook tactics wont always work

  • There is a war in the Mohave Desert!!!!???? I live by it!!! It said they mobilized their in the beginning of this video!!! Why wasn't i told!!!

  • OORAH!

  • talk about a bad day to hike

  • Now these guys look like they know what they're doing. Fantastic footage of a well co-ordinated assault. Just proves that the old leather personnel carriers (boots) are still the mainstay of the infantry when it comes to taking the enemies ground. Cheers to the USMC.

  • well of course they know what they are doing! They are the strongest conventional ground force in the world! They are the USMC! OORAH MEN! SEMPER FI DO OR DIE

  • Training, budget, and numbers make all the difference.

  • With out war you wouldnt exist.

  • As long as mankind exists there will be war.

  • sad but true.

  • @wattlebough i think war is not exceptional for mankind, i bet aliens ravage in war so do animals for example chimpanzee make coordinated attacks on rival tribes killing many and chasing them away from their territory.

  • @Newbpwng Ah yes but do they use the Ma Deuce? Hehe!

  • @Newbpwng

war has been apart of us since the creation of man.

Millions have thought as you have. all of them have failed to stop it.

  • @4everUSNavy well stopping war has nothing to do with what i said, and why would a person that say war is a part of life try to stop it in first place!?

  • @wattlebough Yep, whether it be the army or street gangs.

  • if there was no war you wouldnt appreciate peace

  • i know right

  • @Newbpwng if there was no peace you wouldnt fear war

  • @watermelonman515 for most people, but i don't fear war neither do i fear death.

  • @Newbpwng Theres something to be learned out of everything.

  • @Newbpwng

Dang, that could make a top ten quote list!

  • @Scrod99 yeah well good luck finding the first person who ever said that lol

  • @Newbpwng

    good point...

  • @Newbpwng third world tyranny is the motivator for first world democracy

  • noting i love more than the sheer force and power of the 50 cal under my thumb i would join again any day just to shoot that again

  • Vote Republican :> lol

  • CAX!!!!LULZ! what a joke that was...

  • woooohhaaa

  • this is kinda a dumb question but do the D.I.s give u shit if u shoot lefty??????

  • smack my ass plz!!! J

  • the A-10's machine gun, the GAU-8 minigun, fires the largest bullet in the world (other than tank shells and stuff like that, but those are shells).

It's a 30mm round. Just to put it in perspective, a .50 caliber round is only 12.6mm. And a .50 caliber bullet has a half an inch diameter.

  • The GAU-8 fires a 30mm autocannon round, also called a shell. It's not considered a bullet (look it up).

  • nor is the GAU-8 a machinegun, it's a cannon.

  • I consider it a heavy machine gun by my standards, to me a cannon needs to be reloaded and is not full or semi automatic (although with more recent technology this is starting to not be a good standard to go by) but yeah, i consider the 30mm to be a bullet and the GAU-8 to be a machinegun, even if they are not technically so.

  • you can consider it what you want, but if you look up s ome actual info you'll see that it's designated a rotary cannon, not a machinegun. and there've been automatic cannons for decades... 30mm is not a bullet either... not even by a long shot.

  • i saw on the military channel that you can hear it from two miles away. thats insane.

  • if i join the marines wil i be able to choose my own weapon like a M16/M203 or will i be given a an assigned weapon

  • when my brother joined he got 2 choose, if u want to be a SAW gunner u go in special training, or if u want 2 use the M203 u go in special training, im not sure how though.

  • It depends on what you qualify for

  • no special training is needed.

    M203, M16, M4 and M249 are all MOS0311 weapons.

Theyre given to you according to billet.

SAW gunner is 2nd in command, team leader gets the 203.

  • so wait u u just get to pick? wat gun u want to use?

  • no, if youre senior, or your unit gets newer guys, you get promoted up a billet.

the new joins always get rifleman/scout, if the older guys dont want to carry the SAW, sometimes the boot gets it. There were cases of riflemen and assistant gunners getting M203s

  • oh ok, thnks for the info.

  • BOOOOOTS UP!!!

  • good old USMC fire power, looks like fun

  • the A-10 looked bad ass

  • lord have mercy!

  • why do say that?

  • cause he is dumb

  • the plain farted

  • I know! A12 machine gun fire sounds so like a fart! "PPPPHHHFFFFUUUUT!"

  • this british guy is retarded

  • hey i past there 2 days ago.

  • A-10 Warthogs, damnnnn.

  • watch "ABSOLUTE BEST USMC MOTO VIDEO"

  • Camp wilson is the camp where units coming to train stay all the conventional training is still part of cax the urban warfare training is mojave viper there is also the DAC which is a mech assault exercise

  • M2 has been in service longer than since the 1950s... Dumb British ass wipe.

  • Anyone else see the tires falling at 3:23? Kinda odd...

  • That's cuz they just got blasted by an AT-4 or one of the SMAW support gunners.

  • Makes sense, is there a reason they use tires? Is it just because it'll take a blow better than soil?

  • Yeah... the tires really don't get destroyed, as you see it just knocks 'em over, so all the Coyotes (range instructors) have to do is have us stack the tires back up after the range is over.

  • I greatly respect the U.S Marine Corps, greetings from Chile.

  • Every time I hear the words "Range 400" I twitch and die a little inside.

  • why's that?

  • Because I ran for... God, I don't remember how far I ran... through wadis, trenches, up and over hills and flat desert carrying a SAW, upwards of 1600 rds, and an AT-4 during the assault after doing 2 dry runs.

  • where's range 400? and thanks for your service

  • It's on Camp... Wilson? (it's been a while since I was there) I think is the name outside of Twenty-nine Palms. It's part of what used to be called the Combined Arms Training Exercise (CAX); now it's part of a revised training package called Mojave Viper.

  • ok thanks

  • hahaha sucks u had the SAW griever0311 lolz eeeek!.. i had the M-16, AT-4, 14 Magazines.. 200 240G Machine gun rounds around my body and 2 flares...in my day pack i had 800 SAW rounds lol.. and my platoon lead the assault to the farthest trench during summer time!!! lol

  • wow how many canteens did you drink lol

  • please... dont remind me... ugh..dry runs after dry runs full out.. then the real deal.. i would never ever forget Range 400 during the summer time... Doing range 400 over n over made the crucible Reaper march cake walk.

  • This is badass, but narrater says some incorrect info. And no offense doubleaamazin but you definetly do not strike me as a Marine... If you are sorry but if your lying go to hell.

  • CAX sux... That's all I have to say about that...

  • THE CORE KICKS ASS! after highschool im gonna go join the Marines. For my home state, and my country...ALASKA BABY!...THE RED WHITE AND BLUE..USA!!!!

lol i have 3 more years to go..

  • good luck, but you spell it Corps

  • Vicious, Yeh, the M2 was introduced in WW1 as a water cooled big bro to the 30cal, (mechanicals are just scaled up). But then in WW2, the army followed the air force's idea of removing the big water jacket, these initially overheated badly, but later they fitted a thicker barrel to help absorb more heat, so there you go

  • hes leaning back bear

  • Fuck 29 Palms!! Semper Fi traitor bitches!!

  • what is 29 palms and why are they traitors lol

  • tell me who the hell mike gravel is and how ron paul is a fraud

  • the narrorator mentioned that the m2 .50 cal was in service since the 1950s. However, i am almost certain that the weapon has been in service since WW1, i think the year was 1917-18? however I am not sure on what year exactly. Someone please correct me if i am wrong

  • I think he's talking about this m2 in particular..not sure about it tho

  • It has been in service since 1921

  • I like the GAU-8.

  • those who are being fired upon DONT

  • lol

  • one of the few weapons I consider better than a fifty cal. M2

  • my friend is in the Mo right now

  • I've never been out on patrol. i made a good choice.

    a licky boom boom

    down

  • does that mean u stayed home and turned gay?

  • which is this tv show?

  • fuck ya they still use mortars, 0341 we frag em you bag em

  • is it little children cardboard models they practice shooting at? cus they sure like to kill those first in reality...

  • ur gay

  • naw the targets are pretty average, I dont look at age when i kill. all i know if it has a gun, its a target.

  • That's a stupid thing to say.

  • You're a stupid bitch. You've never been on patrol or in a combat zone so you don't see how hard 99.9% of Marines work to avoid unnecessary casualties. Its so easy for you cowards to sit back and bitch about what the MEDIA TELLS you happens in combat, because you're too scared to see for yourself. Enjoy your freedom of speech because those that you put down are the very ones who protect it, regardless of which misguided policymaker commands them.

  • How come nobody hears you guys? Oh wait the media's agenda...

  • dam right jackal

  • agreed, people need to learn that the media will only tell bad things, if they werent careful they would all be dead right now

  • your a fuckin retard

  • go fuck urself, you pussy- you're too much of a coward to be in the service so you sit here and ridicule them like you know what you're talking about! Whether you agree with the war or not, respect and support our troops.

  • .50 cals rock

the SAW is the best though...

  • try searching "katana vs. machinegun"

youll be amazed... the can see limbs flying!! joke

  • i think mortars are not needed anymore by the u.s., they have 203s or satellite guns lol

    do they still use mortars??

  • yes they still do but not in ubran war but everything else i still think so not as much cuz there bombs and everything else really a lost art

  • yea mortars are still used.
