@sangolt88 £35000? GBP? No way! I'm in the UK and the car costs under £24,000 fully loaded with diesel engine, powershift and other options. You can build your own on the Ford web site. Compare it to a Vauxhall Astra 2.0cdti auto at £24,000. I would definitely go for the Ford after driving both cars. Vauxhall dealerships are con merchants in this country and loads have closed after going bankrupt because people unhappy went elsewhere - to independant garages who don't lie/overcharge..

The government says that they want more people to drive environmentally friendly cars and tax cars after the size of the engine. So instead of buying a new car, I now cruise around in a 92' Volvo 940 that gets me 19 MPG wtf

I just rented this car for two days. It was a high end model with 17" wheels and an auto transmission. The radio had, what seems to be 500 buttons, it's underpowered and feels like a high-tech, underpowered, mass produced "pin-ball machine". It was as if I was driving in a car that had it's engine, transmission and brakes lubricated with soy milk. Just totally detached and helpless. Even though I'm an American, I would choose any Honda, Toyota or even Mitsubishi model over this car...
@umaxen01 First off.. the main problem was that you drove the horrible automatic version. I used to HATE American cars but just purchased the lowest end hatchback BUT I did two things that made the car BRILLIANT. I got the manual transmission and the sports package which added disc brakes on all 4 wheels instead of just the front, 16 inch rims, amazing looking 2 tone cloth interior, leather wrapped steering wheel etc. No Sync, no computer crap. INCREDIBLE handling, looks, quality etc.
Cont... Are we poor? or car for the masses like someone has noted before?, well yes (I am not rich and not pretending to be), it is still a car and will take us whenever we go, that it is what we want. Just let’s remember that sometimes one car could be a lemon in 100 or 1000 in a batch. Hopefully my won’t be one of them.
Fiat lovers, VW lovers, Alfa lovers, etc, etc, etc… to each its own. Respect what we want Ford it a good car as well.
I own a ’97 Ford Laser and it has been very reliable and never fails even when the services have not been constants. Now we have tested the new Focus, 1.6 (Advantage) and 2.0 (Trend). And let me tell you that apart from all gadgets (a bonus) that sometimes we do not need them at all, it has been smooth, better torque in the 2.0, manoeuvrable and confortable. My wife it is happy, and I am happy, we are planning to get the 2.0.
I really have to say one thing first… I am not a very good car connoisseur, but I am not that bad to recognize good or bad things in a car, and most important, you have to own one or have tested one at least to say something reasonable or have an opinion, and I can see many comments here are rubbish only because they are in love with a certain make or model, etc. We have to have an open mind or to be mature enough if someone needs advise and not a blind negativity....
@Jethrowtool I would agree, but the best way to decide would be to hire the car for a week and give it a good try out over different roads and at different times. I'm in the UK and would like the Powershift one as stop/start traffic in town is mainly the driving I do. I'm not convinced the braking on the inside wheels is a good idea, you might wear out a lot of brake pads unevenly. They say nothing about leaving the car running to let the turbo spool down after a long/fast trip.
The only dissapointing thing with car manufacturers now is... They make one design and just stretch it for each new model... Look at Audi with the A4, A5, A6, A7? and A8.. The SAME looking car just slightly bigger. The fiesta, Focus and Mondeo are going that way now too =/

I have driven 4 of these cars and they drive poorly. I really like the outside of the car but man this car is trash. I work at Enterprise rent a car and many customers have returned it since it seems like the cars transmission is going to explode.
Just test drove: Needs to be 180 HP+, steering WAY TOO LIGHT! No feel. Rear spoiler NOT aligned-poor quality control (possibly an indication of quality?), center console uglier than Godzilla. Transmission feels smooth and exterior design is excellent. Seats are too flat. NO HID-a shame. 215 tires are surprisingly large for a compact. Other than these, a good car for $22K US, not $28k on the sticker!
Although its a world car, its not exactly the same thing.
The UK version does not get Microsoft's Sync - which would be a great thing to have. I've read we might get this in 2012. Depressing we don't have it now though.
I just got this car last week. Very nice design at the front (Rally style/Agressive) but misses some features such as Windows auto closing and some other things that I have forgotten right now lol.
It is also pretty cheap made in some ways. Some Plastic interior parts and the bumper is plastic and flimbsy, I ripped a part of the bottom bumper off by reversing over a branch hanging out of my neighbous bush, it was a thick branch but shouldn't have caused the damage it did.
I just bought this new model 4 weeks ago and have had nothing but problems. Blower motor on A/C went out. One of the windows stopped working for a few days. One door sticks. And other problems I made a video of on my channel. Ford won't take the car back so I want to show people how poorly it's made

"Triangular pieces make it look a little awkward" - awkward? Plain ugly! The first Focus looked best, the second was just ok, this one is ugly. Ugly front end, ugly tail lights, busy interior - this is not the Focus I've come to like. I guess the fact that it drives well should console me, but I can't stand looking at it.
I rented a Focus for a week, it is absolute gem to drive on highway, but that's about it ... some issues I have with the Focus is that I can't see out the front and back of the Focus while I'm driving, the back seat seems tight compared with the competitors, and also I have problems with myford touch, the usb doesn't recognize when I unplug or plug in a new device.

It's amazing. Europeans can't say enough about Ford yet in the United States they pawn off absolute shit. The U.S. version of the Focus will have a 2 liter engine that with less horsepower and worse fuel economy. I guess if you want a decent vehicle in the U.S. you should look overseas.
@joshieboi005 I agree with you about Fords being common and dull, however, Audis and VWs are dull shit too! I've got a sexy Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV and it's the best by far. Focus and Golf are just awful. Italian cars have soul, thats why I love my Giulietta to bits :)
@u1430 I had a Fiat Bravo HLX in black with black tinted windows 3 years ago. I loved that car to bits. Its funny because whatever the Italians design now, it takes another 10-12 years for other manufacturers to catch up. The Bravo HLX was a coupe/hatchback design in 1995, yet it had the black tinted 'look' front headlamps, dark tinted 'alien eye' rear lights which lit up as hollow rings and circular front spot lights. The Corsa C stole the whole Fiat Bravo design, about 10 years after. Lol
@1ns4ne1d10t Cool, I had a Fiat Brava ELX back in '99 and it was geat. Both the Bravo/Brava were very good design at the time. No wonder they both won European Car of the Year in '95. They copy Fiat design (like Punto rear tail lights on Fiesta) because they know Italians do it best. I've now got an Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV and it's ace. I wonder how long before thats copied. Alfa's hidden rear door handle has already been copied by Honda and Seat. Shame on them. lol.
@u1430 I had a Punto as my first car and I noticed exactly what you mentioned about the Fiesta 5. The 5th gen Fiesta almost completely copied a Mk1 Punto. Except for the front end which was uglier. I parked mine next to a Fiesta once and the rear ends are almost identical. Even down to the smallest detail like the positioning of the rear numberplates are exactly the same height. Wrecks the Italian exclusivity. If you stuck a Fiat badge on a Fiesta it could pass as being a MkII Punto.

"Triangular pieces make it look a little awkward" - awkward? Plain ugly! The first Focus looked best, the second was just ok, this one is ugly. Ugly front end, ugly tail lights, busy interior - this is not the Focus I've come to like. I guess the fact that it drives well should console me, but I can't stand looking at it.

I rented a Focus for a week, it is absolute gem to drive on highway, but that's about it ... some issues I have with the Focus is that I can't see out the front and back of the Focus while I'm driving, the back seat seems tight compared with the competitors, and also I have problems with myford touch, the usb doesn't recognize when I unplug or plug in a new device.

It's amazing. Europeans can't say enough about Ford yet in the United States they pawn off absolute shit. The U.S. version of the Focus will have a 2 liter engine that with less horsepower and worse fuel economy. I guess if you want a decent vehicle in the U.S. you should look overseas.

@joshieboi005 I agree with you about Fords being common and dull, however, Audis and VWs are dull shit too! I've got a sexy Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV and it's the best by far. Focus and Golf are just awful. Italian cars have soul, thats why I love my Giulietta to bits :)

@u1430 I had a Fiat Bravo HLX in black with black tinted windows 3 years ago. I loved that car to bits. Its funny because whatever the Italians design now, it takes another 10-12 years for other manufacturers to catch up. The Bravo HLX was a coupe/hatchback design in 1995, yet it had the black tinted 'look' front headlamps, dark tinted 'alien eye' rear lights which lit up as hollow rings and circular front spot lights. The Corsa C stole the whole Fiat Bravo design, about 10 years after. Lol

@1ns4ne1d10t Cool, I had a Fiat Brava ELX back in '99 and it was geat. Both the Bravo/Brava were very good design at the time. No wonder they both won European Car of the Year in '95. They copy Fiat design (like Punto rear tail lights on Fiesta) because they know Italians do it best. I've now got an Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV and it's ace. I wonder how long before thats copied. Alfa's hidden rear door handle has already been copied by Honda and Seat. Shame on them. lol.

@u1430 I had a Punto as my first car and I noticed exactly what you mentioned about the Fiesta 5. The 5th gen Fiesta almost completely copied a Mk1 Punto. Except for the front end which was uglier. I parked mine next to a Fiesta once and the rear ends are almost identical. Even down to the smallest detail like the positioning of the rear numberplates are exactly the same height. Wrecks the Italian exclusivity. If you stuck a Fiat badge on a Fiesta it could pass as being a MkII Punto.

Now most people appreciate Alfa's pure and original Italian design. The Giulietta is inspired by the beautiful 8C sports car. The Focus is the dodgy one. just taken delivery of mine, in the flesh it looks alot better, i went for titanium x spec with the 1.6 ecoboost, and it's lovely! just can't wait for the 3 door st to come out!!

I agree with the reviewer: this car has an awkward design, similar to the aussie fords like the new Territory and Falcon. maybe its one of those things that will improve with age, like the previous gen bmw 5er.

Omarbeballin: the lancer is not even the same class of car, and to say it it is even on par with the focus is stupid. The focus sales blow away any sales of the lancer. The lancer Evo is a whole different beast but again doesn't need to be compared to the focus which targets a whole different market. i hate how when British people are reviewing fords, they try as hard as they can to find positives to say when there are none. when they run across a negative they make it seem as it's nothing not significant. there are many better cars like for example a lancer. they would say it's terrible! i don't understand it, get some proper non biased journalist!
