This is the first time I heard Desmond play this tune -- gorgeous -- and I'm sure he smooth style influenced my sax playing style years ago. Fascinating what our ears remember and the conscious mind forgets.
I love Jazz, but I tend to favor pieces where the melody is clear. I like when the musicians add their own expression, but stay true to the original melody. I have come to really enjoy most everything I have heard from Dave Brubeck and I am thinking of buying one of his as my first Jazz album. Amazing control and creativity but the listener doesn't get lost in randomness. Very nice.
The way he plays the piano man what a guy!, makes me feel really cool while listening to him lol. Sure wish I would of picked it up while I was growing up. Always wanted to play this kind of music you know. Thank god he was able to make it for me so I can listen to it always through the years I live. Thankfully I am only 22 so I can enjoy it for many years to come, well untill I go death *lets hope not, lol Seriously though great guy, one of the best ever. much love mr.bruback classy cat fasho.
@asmdann That depends, are you the only one here on drugs? I think not sir...I think not. For some reason I see this as a band playing in an old Jazz cafe, and theres a stork on bass, a Monkey on drums, and a chill ass fucking cat playing piano. they are all wearing black and white tuxes bee tee dubs
@NotOrdinaryInGames Why should we? There are much more worrying causes of death. Why should we worry about banana skins? We should rather worry about lung cancer or drug traffic. Oh, and I wasn't implying that we should worry about the cause of death of the composer, was just saying it as a curious fact.
Dave Brubeck is a great jazz musician period. I saw him live and it packed the house, so to speak. It was in a high school back in 1960, He was great.
@NotOrdinaryInGames tahnks man! ill do it, you can't imagine, how much i love jazz! it's the best genre of music, after classical for me! thans for album, that qas awesome!
uno de mis numeros favoritos !! buenisima version, como todo lo hecho por dave y sus grupos, con el incomparable paul desmond!! que dios lo tenga en su gloria!!
Hey man, that´s a cool version indeed, not so "pesada" as many others are... This swings and goes straight to the heart ;-) Thanks Fili2009able for the hint!
OH! Vince! One of my absolute favorites. I remember trying to find out as a little kid who played those fantastic pieces on the Charlie Brown specials and it was Vince.

Desmond is luscious -- smooth -- and influenced my sax playing many years ago. For my second video, I'm tempted to play this song.

This performance is brilliant. All four of them really shine. That is hard to accomplish without having four overly long solos. Pure magic.
