I liked Avatar. It might not have the most original story( Pocahontas meets Dances with Wolves meets a beautiful sci-fi setting). But it was good fun. But I do agree that the announcement sort of came out of no where, but I'm excited for it. It will be great to see what the imagineers and Cameron can come up with together. As for EPCOT. I hate it! Avatar is very over rated. I think that they're just trying to copy off of Harry Potter from Islands of Adventure. Also, I wish Disney would focus more on Epcot and istall a Tron Legacy section. I don't like this idea at all, but we'll have to see what happens.
I really just think it is to early to pass judgement on Avatarland. I do believe like you said that there will be 1 or 2 really exciting rides in it. I am kinda worried about it because Avatar doesn't have a very large fan base, but with two more movies we will see. I really think this is a wait and see type thing. I would have preferred a Star Wars expansion at HS, but Animal Kingdom does need some more "E" ticket attractions.
Also alot of people are under the delusion that just because Avatar made alot of money and alot of people went to go and see it that it was a successful and popular movie. Most critics agree that the only impressive thing about Avatar were the effects. And most adults found it boring overhyped and dry. Almost everyone I know has a copy of Avatar but hasnt even opened let alone watched it.

I'm sure Disney wants to make sure the franchise that they are getting ready to plunge 500 million into actually takes off before building a park. @file91e hopefully they wont rush into things just to compete with universals wizarding world because this wont even come close to the wizarding world. and yes Epcot NEEDS some love too =( especially some parts of future world need some work pronto !
I agree...the "world' of Harry Potter is huge, rich, and full of characters and things. Avatar really can't come close. But we'll just have to see what they come up with.
also you said that there isnt alot of themeing in Animal Kingdom??? that statement is completely false, It is probably one of the most themed theme parks in the world! And i dont think the addition of another forested area would increase the amount immersion at animal kingdom. There are enough forests and rainforest areas in Animal kingdom. (They have enough trees already)
4) Being the biggest of all of the parks there is ALOT of walking in between attractions and heat exhaustion of guests has been a BIG problem since its opening. what disney really needs to do is fill in large gaps and build more attractions in already existing areas instead of building a whole new land. There is enough room for expansion of already existing areas of animal kingdom without making more walking distance for the average guest.
3) Kids ( the largest demographic of people who come to the parks) have very little idea about what Avatar is. In a park that already has little for kids to be interested in disney should be adding more to get kids interested in the wild and conservation rather than adding a failed movie franchise that is completely obscure for most kids. hmmmmm... maybe adding mythic animals like dragons and unicorns would be interesting for kids . sound familiar

WDW Magic had satellite pictures of possible spots of where they would build it at Animal Kingdom. 1 spot was Camp Minnie Mickey and the other spot was near Kali River Rapids
No problem, we'll see if I can get a trip down there between those times. I doubt it, bu it'd be cool to bump into you while trying to get into the Magic Kingdom.

I don't really thinks it's that good of an idea.
1- Avatar I thought was really long and boring at many parts.
2- It's ANIMAL Kingdom and the focus of the movie is not really on animals.
3- It is PG-13 and Disney is for children and I don't think it would fit.
But I think the whole atmosphere and building of Pandora would like really cool and if they have a great ride it might be good for everyone.
