  • what powder have you used for those rounds at the end?

  • @davery25 The powder is probably Alliant 2400.

  • Excellent video.

  • @mdirtydogg Thank you.

  • Everywhere i look online it says that the bolt is hell to re asemble but i found it relatively easy even without the instructions. Am i just lucky or is there a chance that i assembled it wrong even though it cocks and releases like it should?

also the 6mm markings on the side of the rifle are still visible and not punched over with a 8mm marking. I'm able to chamber a round from my buddy's k98 but am not sure if this rifle is meant for the high pressure European charge. can i shoot his ammo?

  • @Jcv580 If you can get the bolt in the rifle and can successfully cock it I would say it must be together correctly.

If your particular rifle has been re chambered to 7.92x57mm it ought to be safe to shoot any load, but have a qualified gunsmith check the head space first.

  • Can you please inform if the sling on the video is an original? Thank you.

  • @pereiramateus To the best of my knowledge the sling is original to the rifle.

  • Where these ever imported in numbers? Where could I find one?

  • @TheSouthernGentleman I'ts been a long time since these were "current" surplus. I think one of the on-line auction sites would be the best place to look.

  • @TheSouthernGentleman They come up on Gunbroker every so often... If you get a chance, they're well worth it. There is NOTHING like a pre-war Mauser for fit & finish. Like the man says, they have a really handy sight picture, and they're quite a bit lighter than a k98. Things to look out for - rust and splits @ the wrist. Portugal is coastal and humid - after refurb most went into war-stores & got a little damp. No biggie, but a bit of a downer if you're not expecting a few small pits...

  • hi i payed £100 for mine with the bayonet she'd been on the shelf a few years and was looking sorry for herself i got her as my second project she cleaned up great all as new without replacements i love to shoot her but we had a problem the other day i was firing on a combat range and well the bayonet ejected it was fine i thought i got out lucky but no it pulled the bayonet bar forward and gave her a hair line crack from the pin thing at the bottom to the bayonet bar i want to keep it origanal

  • @kahunaking1409 A decent gunsmith should be able to repair that.

  • With the stripper clips can't you just slam the bolt foreward to eject the stripper clip itself without taking out the stripper clip, therefore making the reloading process faster?

  • @6246701 Yep, but I'm not in that much of a hurry!

  • WOW nice gun. I like the action. Looks fun to shoot

  • @ntrudr800 It is fun to shoot and the action is quite smooth to operate.

  • Im getting one for $220

  • That's a great price, normally these sell for $400 to $500. Does it come with a bayonet?

  • @314299 Unfortunatly not, $200 is the most I pat for my rifle though.

  • Even still, that's a smoking deal. I just saw one on-line with a bayonet for $495.

  • Great video, nice looking rifle, lots of little unique items that make it different to a K98K.

  • Thanks. They are a unique rifle, that's for sure. With the weird bolt I don't think they are for everyone, but they are a nice collectible for sure. I'd like to have one in the original 6.5mm to go with this 7.92mm.

  • This is a special model of mauser ( from germany off course, with a particular breech, introduced by a Portuguese Capitan, José Vergueiro. Just it. So Portuguese army bought the riffle for the portuguese army, until the sixties,

  • ARGH! Can anyone edumacate me as to the re-assembly of the BOLT on this thing? I had been cleaning the bolt after a shoot, and the bolt head clicked around and of course it came apart. Having stripped a string of different Mauser-like makes, I didn't think much about it. ..... until I'd finished removing fouling from the barrel. Then I spent a good hour trying to work out the Rubik's Bolt Puzzle. Any tips?? Links? Photos? God, call me collect!!!!!

  • I feel for you. I had the bolt apart on mine - ONCE. It took me for ever to get it back together properly. Several attempts over several days, actually. Youtube seems to block website addresses in comments so I'll send you a link to some instruction in a PM.

  • Oh, mate, you're an absolute legend. The tragedy is that I didn't MEAN to pull this one apart. It came apart during cleaning.

  • Well atugaz talked to me iam officer in the army

    i talked whit some people

This will be a hard rifle to find

    But its not impossible

    Abaout 400000 rifles were maded

maybe a Not so much but

100000 were maded then until 1935 mroe were maded so

  • 400 000 is a pretty significant quantity! Thanks for the information.

  • @314299

Remenber that some were lost in ww1

  • I have the exact same rifle. My grandfather gave it to me.Your video really helped me understand the whole story behind it.I havent shot mine yet but it is in very good condition

  • I'm glad the video was interesting to you. Firearms given by fathers or grandfathers are always special things and deserve to be treasured.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Im from portugal and that rifle is a national simbol.

    Thanks for making this video.

    You honor my nation.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • well iam portuguese

if u want a mauser like that

u have to try go to north

there are shops that perhaps u can find

my grand grandfather have been in ww1

u hould problably fins some in portugal if u go to the north

  • Interesting to hear that. Do you see these rifles very often in Portugal?

  • well........ yes when iam parading in army but, in that colectors shops.......... some cus we dont sell weapons we just sell for colectors or people that have a special premition to use it. ism sure u can try to find one to be hoinest i just heard this from a army friend i will try to ask to one of my commanders but here we rarely sell war material but iam sure u can find i saw one so my uncle buyed one from spain
  • So they still use these rifles for military parades and drill?

  • Yes. Only on military parades in portugal, used by GNR, National Guard. You can ask for GNR, Portugal in google, or youtube. Regards

  • @314299

i know that iam coming ''a bit to late'' but, i have been very busy...

I hope you're doing fine... Let's get to the point.

Many rifles were converted to mauser 98k, that was used until the 60's and saw action in Portuguese colonial war...

Mainly Kar98k's are used for parades, but not in the army, even tough for some cerimonies...

The GNR used the Kar98k, but they also use some Mauser vergueiro's...

Some can be find and collected, some stay in armed forces, some in museums...

    cheers

  • Are these guns available for gun owners

  • Significant quantities of these rifles have not been imported for some time, so if you want one you will have to start searching.

  • y do u ppl kwl 7.92, 8mm??

  • The difference is a result of two different regulating bodies: SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturing Institute) sets the standards for North American ammo, they call it 8mm Mauser or 8x57. CIP (Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives) makes the standards European made ammo and they use the German 7.92 designation.

    To make matters more confusing neither accurately describes the actual bullet size of .323" = 8.2mm. 7.92mm = .312" 8mm = .315"

  • thanks for this video, great

  • Nice video. My Dad recently purchased an original M1904 Vergueiro in original 6.5X58. Interesting rifle in that the safety and cocking piece are as one when the bolt is cocked. Just one word of advice, the style of action is pronounced "Man Licker" not "Macknliker." Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher would be glad his surname was being pronounced correctly if her were still around. Other than that, a fine vid on a very unknown rifle. The magazine release is similar to that of a Type 30 Arisaka.

  • nice video man 5/5

  • Nice rifle! Great video.

  • nice piece of kit!

  • Yes, it's quite well made, and the bore is almost in perfect condition. I also have the bayonet and scabbard for this rifle but I forgot to take them with me when I got to the range.

  • make another vid with them in =]

  • Perhaps....

  • 5 stars ! Im glad to see your making new videos .

  • Thanks for the rating.

I was holding off on new videos until I got new camera. However I doubt I'll be getting one anytime soon so I'll make do with the old one for now.
