Short review:

CONTROLS: quick and easy (thats what she said) buttons are well placed easy to reach and just feel natural. Menu is also easy to manuever through.

FOCUS: Fast and accurate autofocus / Manual focus is VERY easy to do zooms in on focus point when manual focusing.

IMAGE QUALITY: Excellent, better than ANY p&s. on computer RAW photos are comparable to nikon d3100 DSLR. REALLY impressed with the image quality on this one

LAST COMMENTS: its a keeper for damn sure! especially for $350

I'm seriously feeling confused regarding what to purchase as a camera. I'm definitely up for cams that produce those shots where it 'de-blurs' the rest of the background and focuses v.well on the subject; I'm assuming only SLRs can do that? Apart from that feature, d clarity & focus is just amazing. But, m afraid to invest on an SLR for so many practical reasons. The Sony Nex-3 kind of changes my mind. Is it a good idea to just play it safe w/ a cam like nex-3, or go for an actual SLR instead?

@AngelaRMFerrer I just bought it 1 week ago and i can tell you that these cameras are great! I have a leica reflex and a just for my travels i used to take with me a sony dsc p200. Unfortunately after 5 years i broke my p200 so i went to the shop to search a replacement. For first i had chosen a small nikon s8100 and, after 2 days using it, I was really disappointed about the low quality of that product. I went back to the shop to change it and I tried every compact camera

At the end I saw the nex 3 kit with 2 lens and I decided to buy it.... Now I use it always, I don't even use my leica slr anymore. I just love this sony, the quality is great (you can do all the things you do with a slr, also de-blur the background of the subject)and it's very easy to carry everywhere. P.S. sorry for my terrible english

I got this camera for my birthday last year, i love this camera because it's so small, so light, and it shoots super high quality/resolution pictures, but the downside is that when you are trying to shoot images at night, the image becomes foggy the picture becomes unfocused. BUT i love this camera a lot, its compact and perfect for going on vacations, its the perfect point and shoot!

@gleek314 yeah it does :) it comes in a different package and is detachable, but sometimes it gets a little annoying cause if you didnt have the flash attached, and you wanted to take it out, you would need to take it out of its plastic case, attach it on the camera and screw it on tightly by the wheel.

@7conlimon Yes I do like the camera and it takes amazing shots in low light. I didnt get the one with the pancake lens mine came with the 18-55 lens. What I like about the camera is that it is really simple to use and the interface explains all the settings and options incase your new to this like I am. I will be getting the nex 5 just because i can get a good discount at my job and it does the 1080p video. I figure its worth the 150$ difference.

as a blogger this was the perfect camera for me..there is no difference between the nex 3 or 5 except for video.. using the lens that goes along with it and no flash.. been loving taking photos in natural light

I have the NEX-3 with the 18-55mm lens. And so far I will recommend this camera to anyone. It's easy to use and if you are a beginner in photography it comes with tips to help you get the type of picture you want, and the quality of this camera is the best.

@mrasxzzzxsa its not sold without a lens.. sadly it only takes the lens thats made for it...the one that goes with it and the low light..though I have both lens I didn't like the low light lens given I was in low light predicament didn't make a difference...its a pretty penny for a lens...nex 3 can range from $350 to $500...nex 5 is $500 or more ..nex 7 I have not seen that but I understand its available

@MohdAlif97 I have heard my professionals don't care for it...but you gotta understand this camera is perfect for starters or those who just want to upgrade from cell phone photos and point and click...anything SLR makes a difference in a photo...so far I have loved it... flash sucks and the smaller lens I have no use for

Sony needs to grow up and start making its cameras with a standard ISO hotshoe. The Minolta thing is really aggravating and I doubt I will continue as a Sony consumer if I don't feel the company has any business making professional-grade cameras

@OzZi1310 You should be. It has so many and amazing options in it. You should update it immidetly when you get it in your hands, update to v.4.0 and you will be happy, it start work even more faster. ;-)

Also it's one of rarest cams that can apply VERY VERY old lenses by buying an adapter which is very cheap. I plan to buy newer version, Nex-5 but only because of FullHD. It makes amazing clips too, I saw a bit noise in some cases but it's only because of MPEG-4. You shouldn't worry about it. ;-)

When i select playback in the histrogram mode, i notice that the image starts to blink (in form of white patches) in dark areas & bright areas. I wonder if this is normal. Can you control the camera by plugging it into your computer? In other words, can you use the USB and will a window or whatever pop up on you computer that will allow you to take pictures and videos without touching the camera? Kind of like a webcam.

i bought one of these maybe a month or soo back :) and have to say to date the best camera i have used.... i have taken well over 500 photos and done events for my local concil also with it...

the camera has an "anti motion blur" feature which is AMAZING for low lighting conditions but on standard auto inteligent mode the camera also works great :)

one feature i wish theyd showed is the sweep panorama just move the camera from left to right (or vica versa) and the camera puts it all together :P

The Nex-3 comes in black. The version 5 is white metal so I suspect this one to actual be Nex-5.

If buying I'd recomend the nex-3 because the difference between the two is only the video quality and Nex-3 is available for like $200 cheaper.

Just an update on this video, the NEX-3 has been discontinued. NEX-5 is the only model available. So this means you might be able to pick up some ultra cheap NEX-3's! :)

@hassaan81 Its just different lens options. You would need both lenses as you do alternate depending on what your shooting. I do not have any 3D shots to show you sorry.

@hassaan81 Lower MM means designed for close up shots and has less zoom. The F Stop such as an example 2.8 is good for low light, the higher the number goes the less light comes in. Usually for really good low light and good outdoor something 3.0-5.6 is a acceptable lens. All what you are paying for is mainly one lens for zoom and one for close up. Hope that helps.

Actually some information you should need to know. Interlaced is better for recording video at 1080P. All TV Stations use 1080i it for Sports. Apparently 1080P is better for the reproduction of the image on the screen but the actually recording is better in 1080i. So don't be fussed.
