I wonder why they're so low, I mean that's pretty low. What was the architect thinking specifically...does it offer better structural stability in the case of an earthquake or something? kind of confusing to me honestly but whatever works I guess
this station was built in 1904, and there are four tracks (and two more for subways) and it's located just by the river, so there is not much space. also there are two bridges crossing over the station connecting one-side of the river to another. they cannot make the tunnel higher because of structural reason. I think the architects (back then) did good job over constructing this station with so many hurdles to go over with.
cool arches complete with padding and safety stripes, japanese commuters don't mind stooping low to save the few seconds it takes to go the long way around, something that wouldn't happen on other countries
reminds of that collection treehouses in the backyard where the roof is so low

thank you very much for answering my question montagnesy. I was honestly curious about this.

it's cause a lot of stations Tokyo are really old, so they're built when Japanese used to be so fucking short.
or, it's cause there are electric lines in the walls so they can't build it any higher.

those tunnels are so low that people have to crouch to come through. that is so odd.

They look so clean, and so quiet... US subways could learn a thing or seventeen. <_<

I KNOW!!!!
my dad talks about this every time we go on a train (we live in Japan)
he says America doesn't like using other people's ideas, so their trains are like no other. LOL
