Good point. You can do a lot with a single card, and it does give you a point of reference for the reading itself. Someone who is The Magician will handle the Ace of Batons differently from a person represented by the reversed 5 of Cups.

I don't remove a court card as significator and place the spread on top or and around it. I think using a significator is supposed to make the reading more personal, but I think the Tarot is going to give the right answer so we don't need to take that step. If you do use a court card this way, maybe cards in the same suit will be more important.Picking a significator is what people do, but I don't know if it has much real value.

Thanks for the commnet, Amberonei. I'll often ask the questioner to pick a number between 0 and 21. They may not know what it means, but I can explain what they chose by showing them the card and it can be useful as a background to the reading. It's like a significator, but better, I find.
