@dragus359 you mention you have already the CNC head on it, which one did you purchased??? Do yo know if a Trex 450 SE V2 version head will fit?
The thing is that I am not sure if every single Trex 450 head are the same for the different versions that align stocks, since they have sport, pro, se , mt and lots of other models of the same 450. Thats why I am asking which head did you buy. Thank you
@renegg (1 of 2) From what I understand, T-rex parts are made to a certain specification, so varying models just vary in quality or in materials, but not in dimensions (unless they belong to a different class). That being said, the head I use on my Axe 400 is supposed to be made to the specifications of the t-rex 450, so whatever t-rex 450 head you have should fit on the Axe.
@dragus359 thank you man for clarifying that, on the other hand I see you made this review on 2009, so how is the heli holding if you still have it, and will you recommend it? I am looking to buy one of this ones since my LHS has one very cheap.
@renegg Yes, I recommend this heli, especially if it's being sold cheap! Like I've said in the video info, you have to watch out for the stock gyro, because it may be defective, but other than that, the only issues I've had with the heli came from wear and tear and having to balance blades (which you'd have to do on just about any helicopter). Oh, and the pitch slider on the tail had too much play for me, so I got another one, but it's not a big deal. Flies great, and is a lot of fun
Hey you play guitar?..I saw the your other AXE (fender strat) hanging on the wall...I play guitar and write and sing, trying to get a band started!! But anyway..I want to order the Heli max Axe, the one beneath yours. The one that is for 159.99 @ tower hobbies..It comes with training gear and DVD cause Im startin out..And I dont want those cheap stupid coaxial choppers to start, ya know..i thought that would be good to start with,.. what you think??
@cowbells4u soooo, I just accidentally deleted my comment....great. Basically the gist was that the Axe CP is not for pure beginners; mainly because a complete newbie hasn't mastered controlling the heli in all orientations (i.e. nose-in). This can be a huge problem due to the Axe CP's low tail authority which can be easily compromised by a breeze when flying outdoors. An experienced pilot would have no problem bringing that tail back around in the event that ... (continued on part 2)
@dragus359 i've been playing guitar since 1997,..when learned..So I really am into music..And see thats the thing too..I used to fly the r/c airplanes back 1997!! I crashed two trainer planes to learn, the Tower 60. and tower 40. ARF..Then I bought the pt 40. ARF and finally got it. But see the hobbie has changed so much since then. Electric power wasnt so advance like it is today!!! It was gas and pain in the ass..back then,.. I still like gas(nitro) better!! ( part1)
@dragus359 And you crashed, but thats how it was!! Since now they have these smaller out the box electric choppers, with the radio too..I dont mind now getting a helicopter these days!! They do just the same as a 30-90 sized 5-10 pound nitro heli..And not so complicated to start. Of couse I could build it,.but I want to focus on the flying first.. My dream helis to buy, are the 90 sized JR Vibe, and the Thunder 90 sized Raptor!! I can buy em and store them away (Part 5)
@cowbells4u (part 2) ... a breeze blows it away. Any disturbance of voluntary tail control will most likely have very unfavorable results (i.e. crash) for a newbie. the axe is a great step up from a 4ch heli, maybe co-ax too , but for a fresh starter, I would wait. The "CP" class of helis is very tough for beginners. It's nearer to the quickness of a 6ch, but has a sluggish tail like a 4ch, which makes it especially tough on newbies. I might get hounded for this, but...(continued on part 3)
@cowbells4u ... (part 3) if you're wanting a more advanced heli to start with because you want to be able to do more once you have the right skills, then I would recommend the Esky Belt CP V2. It is a 6 ch heli for about $180 off of xheli.com (2.4 Ghz version). I will tell you that it flies nothing like an Axe 400 & I assume it's miles away from a T-Rex, but i think it's great for beginners who want that CP feel but need a little more tail authority. It really lacks in... (continued on part 4)
@dragus359 I still have the old radios I ordered from Tower Hobbies in 1996-7..The Futaba 7UAPS PCM, CONQUEST 4ch FM, ATTACK 4 ch FM..LOL.. Like I was gonna say in part 1,..when I started playing guitar and got older, I sorta lost interest in model R/C model planes, but still have the engines and radios in my closet..But what strange for the past 2 years, I let my dorky side have it way again..and been into the HO model trains, LOL Now I been wanting to try the R/C Choppers..(part 2)
@cowbells4u Yeah I have tons of HO train stuff now..I mean even the trains are so cool these days compare to the HO trains I had when I was a kid!!! The locomtives have sound and DCC operations now(expensive). And they sound so REAL!! I really have fun with them setting it up in my living room!! Dont know if you were up on the trains,..but just wanted to share,LOL.. O.K, I'm sure your wondering what hell is this guy rambling on bout all this for...So I'll finally get to the helicopters.. part 3
@dragus359 Thanks for the info on the helecopters,..cuz I dont want that coaxial chopper. I might buy one though anyway..But its like you can only do one thing, and thats just hover..Thats too easy..whats the point if any idiot can do it!!! You can still just hover around with a little better chopper and training gear..I know thats 70% of flying it but, I will get bored of that!! See you had to buy a 30 sized nitro chopper back in the day with 5-6 chs, and just get there and learn.. (part 4)
@SpyOptic93 well, if you plan on going that big i recomend getting the 611, lol its a bit more money but its better to spend the extra bucks and get it over with, rather than a few here, ad a few there, but also just remember, "good and cheap don't go together" hahahaha..its true
have you guys even though it could be the servo not holding, rather than the gyro its self? lol...keep in mind, that the tail servo this heli comes with is not strong at all... :)
@SpyOptic93 The servo that comes with the Axe has more than enough power to handle piros. Even if a bad servo were a possible culprit in this situation, I've ruled that out; I am now using a different gyro, which has eliminated the issue completely.
My HM4000 gyro had no problems holding the tail. It did a great job at that; however, it can't maintain a constant piro rate which makes flying not enjoyable and dangerous. The out-of-the-factory piro rate is pretty low, so you might not even notice it, but speed it up a bit and I bet your opinion will change.
hey is this a SKY500 gyro from Skyartec a good gyro i never heard of it i may get a futaba gy401 but if the sky 500 is good i may try one thanks nice video
I am currently using a SKY500 gyro from Skyartec. You can get one for about $30 from ebay; otherwise it runs about $45 - $50. The SKY500 is decent. You'll be able to fly no problem with it. If you are looking into more hardcore 3D stuff, I'd get a different gyro. For smooth and light 3d like loops or flips, or inverted flight, the gyro works fine. Considering how Tower sells the gy401 for $150... the SKY500 is a pretty sweet deal. I would try it out before the gy401.
I love the heli, but the gyro is the one thing that I don't like about it. Read edit #2 in the side description, and I describe the issue in detail there. It's not that the heli won't fly with the HM4000 gyro, but if you aren't extremely confident of your flying skills I wouldn't get up in the air with the stock gyro. By no means is it a gyro for "experts"; it's defective, so the heli behaves abnormally in the air with that gyro installed. I replaced it with a different one that works better
hey Dragus359, nice heli. I currently have the axe cp and the blade cp. looking to take the next step up. Did you look at the blade 400 at all? I like helimax stuff but my local hobby shop does not carry helimax parts so I have to order them. Do you have any pointers about wich one i should get? Im like a kid at the candy store and cant make up my mind, I think they are both great helis. For starter out there looking to jump from a coaxial heli to the tail rotor you cant beat the axe cp 159.00
Hey Joe, thanks for the compliments. That's true the Axe CP is a great starter for that price. I had some issues with mine, as it was the first release, but I'm sure those problems were corrected by version 3. Mainly it was my tail motor that kept burning out, but I fixed that by installing a belt drive :-).
No, I haven't had much of a chance to check out the blade 400. I've researched it quite a bit, and overall the Axe 400 and the Blade 400 seem to be equivalent. The reason I went with the Axe is that it's slightly cheaper. I also hear that the Axe is more compatible with the T-Rex 450, but at a glance the Blade 400 seems to be just as compatible.
To be on the safe side I chose the Axe. In addition to this, I prefer the Axe's canopy over the Blades (not that important lol). Overall, I made my decision based on the price, rumored compatibility with the T-Rex, style of canopy, loyalty to Helimax, and a gut feeling.
On the issue of LHS Helimax parts stock, I have the same problem, as Helimax isn't as ubiquitous of a brand as E-flight. You have several options there. You can either request an order from your LHS or you could go online and do it yourself. Towerhobbies has all the Helimax you'll ever need. Since I like to customize my helis, I tend to order T-rex parts for them from Helidirect.
Hey something funny... if you are planning on using any of the factory decals make sure to peel of the dull thin plastic sheet that is on the canopy first. I didnt even notice it was on there for like 2 months... just thought the canopy had a dull finsish, lol. looks much sharper now. Enjoy...
Thanks for mentioning that. I noticed the film yesterday. I was scratching around the canopy hoping to see if the tint was a film that could be removed, but instead found that the whole canopy was covered with that plastic sheet. Since I scratched holes in it, I removed it; and you're right it looks so much better now.
