  • Thankyou for posting :) Im thinking of singing this 2 my boyfriend on our 3 year anniversary :D

  • Slowly trying to get this switched over to a guitar via by ear. I've tried the tabs available and they honestly don't sound right at all. I know there is going to be a major difference in terms of different instruments sounding the same, that's a given. But there is definitely something that sounds off from time to time.

  • I feel greasy being that close to his hair.

  • Make sure the tempo stays the same... (y)

  • @PaulHenders2 check out timminch.in/sheets/grew.pdf for sheet music.

  • Can you please create a video on how to play this song?:) fantastic piano playing btw:)

  • *favourite*

  • I'd really appreciate if you put this at onlinepianist(dot)com, you can post a tutorial there of this song, its really easy and I'm sure it'd help lots of people. Thanks!

  • YOU GREW ON ME .... LIKE A TUMOUR!!

  • Mate, God Bless You for even giving it a go. And for sharing it via YouTube.

I think it's pretty cool, whichever key !

I'm trying to learn to play 'This Is My World' on the guitar. And I couldn't give a stuff about what anyone thinks of my version.

Keep the faith fellow musician, and fellow Tim fan xx

  • @mark2267 that songs called Not Perfect my 'fellow Tim Minchin fan' ..

  • Ok, my mistake about the wrong key, I've just found out that my keyboard was tuned down two semitones, so it's really H-major. But the point about the bass line is still valid -- TM uses inversions for two of the chords.

  • @EmperadorKhan I Don't Mean To Sound Out Of Place But What's "H-Major"? I Thought It Only Went To G-Major?

  • @AtramentaceousDave it's the same as B-Major, it's a different naming tradition.

  • @EmperadorKhan so how does that work and does it have a speial name?

  • @AtramentaceousDave

It is the German naming (some call it Northern European), it's basically the same as the English one, save for the fact the H is B and B is Bb.

  • @EmperadorKhan Wow that's so confusing, compared to the cirle of fifths i'm used to. I thought the "English" way was the only way, i'm just so narrow minded ahaa. Anyway thanks for the insight EmperadorKhan, peace out.

  • @AtramentaceousDave

Look for the "Note" article in Wikipedia, there's a comprehensive chart on this issue in the Accidentals section (damn Youtube doesn't let me quote links).

  • And the left hand just goes down a tone.

  • ...which is (III-VII-I) instead of (I-VII-IV). So the resulting chords are A/C#-G#m-D/A. The chord pattern alters there a bit, but my point remains the same.

But the 'triplety' part seems fine -- he modulates into H major there.

  • I know the vid is kinda old and you probably don't care anymore, but, um, have you tried playing your version along with a Tim's recording? Well, I have (a version from his So Fucking Rock DVD and the 'playing at home' clip) and the first four lines (until that triplety part, I haven't gone much further yet) are completely off the key. Judging from your score, you believed it to be in H major, while it's clearly in A major (so two sharps off).

Anyhow, the bass pattern is off as well.

  • @EmperadorKhan I did play along to a recording (I don't remember which, but it was well before the So Fucking Rock DVD was out), and it was fine. And yeah, the score was crap (I was only 16 when I did it, and it was the first time I'd ever used Sibelius.)

  • The crap lighting, video quality and camera angle make it impossible to follow the inner fingers of your right hand. I give up.

  • ah man, I just learnt this whole song from your vid. Thank you so much!!

  • TUTORIAL!! pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease !

  • Tim is awesome as always. I have done some covers; and also a tutorial for Inflatable You. Any pianists on here, let me know what you think

  • cookie monster om nom nom

  • dont suppose u could send me accurate transcrption for the little lick at 33 seconds please!

  • @Nalmond92 If I had it, It's already be online. It really is worthwhile committing to work it out by ear - it's good practise for an important skill to have.

  • Wow! That was amazing! Do you have the sheet music? X

  • Read the vid description...

  • Ohhhh. Silly me, cheers :) X

  • Very good man! Playing it way too fast though! Haha

  • Slow down :P too fast

  • hey, really well done :) i appreciate the chosen camera angle - good stuff.

my only criticism is that it is a little too fast in parts. i tried to use your clip as a karaoke file and ran over my words quite a bit, mostly in the 3/4 sections.

but other than that, superbly played and i enjoyed it very much :) thanks, keep posting!

  • Great video and site. Made everything a lot easier for us Minchin fans.

I have a pretty well arranged "Inflatable you" for the site if you would like me to send you some details. I'd probably have to send you a video i'm not too good with Sibelius.

  • I'd love to see a vid, post it on youtube some time :)

  • Just had piano tuned and printed out the sheet music... waiting to find out about a piano teacher .... will learn this first.....

  • So pleased to see this... having piano tuned on Thursday and starting piano lessons and this is the first song I want to learn to play... will update you when I manage it!!! Thanks for posting!

  • Your website is really great. I got Peace Anthem for Palestine from it. Helped a lot. Thanks!

  • You played this REALLY REALLY well!!

  • Comment removed

  • Nicely done.

And thanks for the link with sheet music =)

  • Genius! :o)

  • You are amazing!

  • Brill =]

  • I have the Darkside[Live] album, almost entirely without vocals. If anyone is interested send me a message and I'll let you know what tracks I have.

  • Do you have 'drowned' and 'If i didnt have you'

Im not sure if they are on the dvd or not lol :) I can give you my email address or if they are already on youtube, i can download them from there. :) Thanks in advance for your help.

    Jasmine xx

  • Upload another video with a constant tempo, and I'll happily record my voice over it :)

  • Thanks for the offer musikman, but I'm no longer looking for a singer for this video.

However, if you think you could do Rock N Roll Nerd, send me a message :)

  • i noticed lol

  • Not bad, a bit to fast and the time signature changes to 6/8 a couple of bars earlier than your version (the fill between the verse and the bridge). Its difficult to spot when tim minchin plays it cos he makes the transition so smooth but it definately does!

  • God it's hard to sing along to you. Do you sing along yourself as you learn? If you don't, you should, it'll make the timing better.

You're damned good though, and the only reason I can play Drowned. :D

  • Yeah I sing along with virtually every time I play through, but I don't sing for most videos because 90% of the time I have a horrible voice, and it makes it less easy to hear the piano for people learning the songs. And yeah sorry I stuffed up the timing... when I recorded this I hadn't quite got it right.

And yay, I like making a difference :)

  • Ah, oh well. Mibbe just sing in your head then. :P Thanks for making the videos anyway, you're the only person on the whole of the internet, seemingly, apart from RowanFM (I think that's his name), who has been so kind as to do so. :P

  • Heh, thankies fer making this video, i've only been playing Piano for 6 months *if we disregard the 4 years playing Electronic Keyboard*, and this song has just inspired me to carry on learning, thanks! :D

  • omg good job i can only do the introw well may be one day you can take the time out of you dayly life a make a vid to help me lol if you can (>*_*)>

  • You have helped me so much with Tim Minchin's music, and you're so incredibly talented! Thank you, once I have some money I'd love to donate to your site :]

  • can you please send me the chords for this, I'm trying to work it out on guitar... it's such a great song!!

  • Sure, I'll work them out in a couple of days.

In the meantime, tehre's piano sheet music at tim . mikeyberman . com if thet helps.

  • thanks, I tried but I really can't read sheet music, yet.. Just barely worked out the first couple of notes from it. ;)

  • Sorry I took so long! Chords are up on the site :)

  • yay Thank you!! :)

  • Sorry I must be blind but I can't find the chords on the site, can you help me?

  • The best pianists can play by ear, bravo. You have a gift. Don't ever stop playing, ever.

  • You, my friend, are obscurely telented. I'm jealous. Keep playing! =D

  • yer same ere tim minchin is legandery rock on tim

  • omg i love this song, tim minchin is te one who really got me into piano and i couldnt find anywhere to learn to play this! you play it soooo well :D

  • nice. excellent even.

  • Damn, well done. Was this by ear (Perfect pitch by any chance? lol)

  • Thanks :)

Yes, by ear. But no perfect pitch :(

  • That makes two of us then. Nice job transcribing it then, the lack of perfect pitch kind of makes it even more impressive lol

I started transcribing this a few months ago but I remember that after about an hour an very little stuff written down I decided to just let Tim do the playing haha. I could write it out if I was really keen, but meh, you've done it for me anyway?! lol (I'll try and throw some money your way when I get around to downloading them. How much were you originally charging?)

  • It was originally $3, thanks tonnes.

  • is this available in sheet music form by chance?

well done on all your arrangement

    troy

  • nice love it you are really good i plan to learn it as well good job

  • you speed up a bit after the intro. but other than that awesome!
