This is a good design, but a bit misguided when comparing costs with FEMA trailers. The EXO unit is basically a hard tent for sleeping 4 people. The trailors are full living spaces, with several rooms, kitchen area, and a bathroom. EXO is just a smaller space with fewer living accommodations, not a radical design solution.
You're completely missing the point. Maybe it's too much for your brain. This guy figured something out. A housing solution for people unfortunate enough to have gone through something like Katrina or a earthquake. You're criticizing him. JJAB91 and me are saying "Fine, YOU'RE saying you can do better. DO it."
@CarlosIsDown so 5 grand is the point ?hello this will never help any poor folks its 5k gees i proved my point and u cant disprove that. i went to the website saw the full constuction plans everything think before u judge and if im wrong prove me wrong to bad u cant poor folks and poor government cant afford this it costs 15k for a brand new modern travel trailer that has everything that a house has for 6 people all this exo thing got is ac and lights and beds
@TarzanandRambo I'm not trying to disprove that poor people/gvmts can't afford that. That's why there's international aid. Furthermore, this houseing is temporary. For 15k you want to house 6. For 15k worth of Exos you can house 12.
But that's not even the point I'm trying to bring to you.
You: "@JJAB91 so u defend the price that makes you the fucking moron" Nice. . .
then you say: "i could build something like this far cheaper and much better this is just a scam"
@CarlosIsDown pay close attention these boxes only have lights and beds they connect to huge ac systems add cost they have poor insulation add cost plus add all the other things people need cooking fridge showers outhouse add cost anything else u can think of ?
I've seen something like this before, but it was made to shelter homeless people. It was just about the same size, and in one tiny room there was a bed with mini fridge, stove, and sink with like 1 cupboard. Then there was a little corner with a toilet. It was kinda neat.
a tent can get rain, hail and other stuff. Who would want to be going from a 500,000 house to hurricane then a tent with no beds. a tent after a hurricane is not a good idea, or any emergency. lightning can strike twice
I double many people affected either paid for their house up front or paid 500k for it. A tent is a quick, easy, cheap solution for /temporary/ accommodation. I'm not talking about the tiny one-man tents you pay 20 bucks for, but something large enough to house bunk beds and withstand serious weather.
Fema Trailer has [toilet, kitchen, AC, shower, running water, sleeps 6, weighted and can withstand weather] EXO has 4 bunk beds and looks like it could blow away in a rainstorm. The EXO needs other units dedicated as (restroom, shower, food hall) if 50 units on a flatbed, may consider flatbed to be mobile community if the other stations are equipped.
I think this idea is geared more towards serving the hundreds of thousands of people who weren't lucky enough to get FEMA trailers... the ones who had to stay in the airplane hangers, school gyms and sports arenas.
And if these EXOs are so cost effective and easy to move/deploy, Im sure they could also be adapted to serve as bathrooms, kitchens etc. You could build an EXO village, with every third unit having a kitchen or bathroom instead of bunks.
@dmoore714 there is somethig like this you described. its like a deluxe exo, called a portable house cabin. its liveable as a permanent household, complete wth a shower. though im unuder the assumption a teenage girl could punch through the wall if she was drunk and very upset. house 1 primarily and another if like, needed
If the US government picks up on this it will be for one of two reasons: 1 - they've been shamed into it, 2 - they're genuinely desparate.
Like the US Military, US government departments like FEMA exist primarily to funnel tax payers money into the pockets of a few wealthy owners via the purchase of expensive materiale.
Understanding that, you can see that any benefit received from those purchases, ie' troops equiped or people housed, is purely a side effect, albeit a desirable one.
I'm noticing how a bunch of people are asking about bathrooms and stuff. They could just get a couple of bigger buildings that serve solely as washrooms and showers. The only downside would be you would have to get people to clean them, that is the beauty of volunteer work though.
Sooo Coool Ideea !!!! But I have a question about the construction it's self because you can't move like 20,000 people in another places so if where katrina striked and there are blowing winds like 60km/h will the houses resist ?
these are temporary shelters, after all. trailers won't stand up to wind either. It would just get people out of weather exposure more quickly and help preserve social order while rebuilding begins.
It's a good idea, just needs more development as far as amenities go as these small huts even though are great would be far from ideal for long term support. But hey, still better than having no place to go or live in well below construction standard fema trailers.
Beds are not important... showers and toilets are important and vital in the aftermath to ensure disease does not spread. Seems great yes... but in reality there are plenty of older systems not mentioned here and this system has major flaws. You can live in a mobile home for a year no problem, in this hut after 1 month you would have killed your family out of desperation and claustrophobia.
It wouldn't be hard to have other facilities available. Building a bathroom/shower into every house is costly and unnecessary because not everyone is going to go to the bathroom constantly.
i'm thinking not... i would guess they would set up a port-a-potty station and portable showers near by.... also you have to admit his idea has people in housing very quickly and that's the important part
the gov won't go for it unless it has ridiculous price
MrROTD 3 months ago
This looks like a fantastic idea.
But I think the reporting failed in outlining more of the features.
I would have liked to see the inside of the unit.
They should have made more of a point about joining 2+ units together (shown in the graphic, but not spoken about)
They should have mentioned what kind of wind tolerance the units would have (especially important in hurricane affected areas)
They needed to talk about insulation and temperature control inside the units.
More info pls

@DogSneeze
you can combine several (3 or 4) to make full living spaces like shown on the vid and still be a lot more cost effective than the trailers

If these buildings are so cheap and reliable, why not send them to African nations who don't have such luxuries?
tsykes92 1 year ago
@tsykes92
it's a new concept, it needs at least one government to adopt it to get it really kick started and mass deployed.
Or sell it commercially to companies if he gets enough funding, it's indeed a good cost-effective idea/design that could benefit a lot of people.
