"Cult" is the root word of "Culture". The PTA is a cult. A church of any kind is a cult. Many Xians call "Athiesm" or "Agnosticism" a "Cult" because it is different than them and conflicts with their values.

Atheist clubs are conceivable, but "cults", or "churches" are not. They just don't exist. People don't unite because they DON'T believe in something. Atheists really have no similar interests, excluding perhaps academia and science.

Why don't you consider yourself a humanist? It's the same as atheism or agnosticism, except that you stand up for human rights and compassion. I didn't join humanism, I was humanist and then I heard of them and realised that I already was one and that it was a more precise way of describing who I am, since atheist just means not believing in god(s).

I don't have any experience with secular humanists. The ideals sound good, and I like the concept of "secular" where ideology don't enter into the picture.
I do have issues with organized atheism, mainly a couple of organizations. I'm currently working on a vid about my experience with New York City Atheists. Although I don't agree Entirely with his commets, he seems to hint at paranoia. Although he is correct in the sence of symbols as rhetoric, the English Language is a group of symbols and yes we all belong to the American "group-think" in that ideas of diverse origins are accepted. Secular humanism at the present represents a check and balance system.
It's so easy for people to mistake an organized group that promotes a certain ideology as a cult. A cult, however, requires all its members to believe the same thing, and that's simply not the case with secular humanism. There are people from many backgrounds that still consider themselves secular humanists, including people with a belief in a personal god (christians, jews, etc).
Imagine if the atheists on youtube became so distressed with theists that we all just went crazy and started an actual cult. Kind of funny to think about.

All forms of community are not cults. Cults are CLOSED communities that involve DOGMATIC controlled thinking. Open communities built around free-thinking are by their basic characteristics the opposite type of community as a cult or cults.

Why don't you consider yourself a humanist? It's the same as atheism or agnosticism, except that you stand up for human rights and compassion. I didn't join humanism, I was humanist and then I heard of them and realised that I already was one and that it was a more precise way of describing who I am, since atheist just means not believing in god(s).

I don't have any experience with secular humanists. The ideals sound good, and I like the concept of "secular" where ideology don't enter into the picture.
I do have issues with organized atheism, mainly a couple of organizations. I'm currently working on a vid about my experience with New York City Atheists. I was accused of being a child molesting Vatican commando, for trying to correct some factual errors. Silly me, I thought that "free-thought" grps shouldn't be like the Discovery Inst.

Agreed! So many times I've heard it called an atheifix or however it's spelled by those who wear it. The problem with the Jesus fish isn't so much the ideals, they are quite lofty. The problem is with the people who define themselves based entirely on these ideals. This is why I don't wear a Dawk-A. I see atheism at best a philosophical position. I don't define myself by it.

It's so easy for people to mistake an organized group that promotes a certain ideology as a cult. A cult, however, requires all its members to believe the same thing, and that's simply not the case with secular humanism. There are people from many backgrounds that still consider themselves secular humanists, including people with a belief in a personal god (christians, jews, etc).
