  • Scholl is good but frankly Kowalski has it all over Scholl. This aria is one of my favorites, whether sung by a counter tenor or treble.

  • wahnsinn!!!echt krass!!!

  • beautifully done!

  • Wonderful voice and interpretation! The best alto I've ever heard! Bravo!

  • very smooth, nice quality & nice richness

  • He is the best! He's an alto! He sings with wonderful technique... not like Scholl! So how can you say: "Jochen Kowalski is kind of a predecessor of Andreas Scholl"

Scholl just sings with falsetto! Its terrible an Kowalski says about falsetto:

    „Falsett ist asexuelles Gesäusel

it means something like: falsetto is asexuel wispering/purring

  • @blumedersahara I hate to break it to ya, if ya didn't know...Herr Kowalski sings in straight-up falsetto with a heavily Germanic-School technique resulting in a bit of covering and darkening (which is fine). But this is all falsetto.

  • @blumedersahara :[ This is falsetto too. Only voices like mine are modal countertenor(which is essentially a dramatic contralto voice).

  • Wow. The best counter-tenor I think I've ever heard!

  • Such a beautiful voice!

  • Has anyone ever noticed the extreme similarity between the faces of Mr Kowalski and Dame Joan Sutherland? ;)

  • High cheek bones and a long face is a technique to get nice rounded tones. A lot of artists do this.

  • Yes, I am well aware of this. But what I'm reffering to is the face itself, not just the way it moves. It's fascinating how they look alike, at least to me.

  • Maybe so. They both have distinctive features.

  • This is one of the best contraltisti of modern times. Rare musicality and technique. Thanx

  • I love 'im!

But didn't it sound a bit out of tune now and then?

    no offense

  • He's under the note sometimes, and there's a bit of scooping. Also a bit of a bad habit of hovering under the note then bringing it up to pitch on the vibrato.

    Nothing serious though!

  • Good ear rullstensas! E.g.: last phrase, "O Jesülein" (the "lein") syllable in the penultimate phrase is "just off" only hitting the note for 15 percent of the time, otherwise flat, or riding through it. Very good stage presence, poise, and clear idea of phrasal direction and elocution as well as emphasis. This live recording inaccuracies are more than offset by a sweet, yes bodiless and flutey, tonal production and gift. If you emphasize expression too much, pitch will suffer, maestro!

  • OMG this man is utterly wonderful!

  • Thank you very much for uploading this. I've recently become a Jochen Kowalski fan and I agree with what you say, he is definitely a predecessor of Scholls, Daniels, Visse, Jaroussky and all the great CT out there.

  • Lovely. Thanks for all three. This one the video editing is a little more relavent, but, I guess a single soloist is easier to follow.

  • Thank you, for your comments. It is always interesting to know what people think about my uploaded videos.
