As soon as the first chord was struck for 'Hallelujah', there was an immediate hush in the audience; you could have heard a pin drop... If she's coming to a venue near you, do everything within your power, ways and means to experience kd live... you won't regret it!!!!

But I have a brother who lives just a couple of miles from Balboa Park (beautiful place) and I would have flown down in a second had I known, just to hear her sing this one song. There are those who will disagree with me, but in my opinion, nobody comes even close to doing this song as much justice as K.D. And my guess it, nobody ever will.

I had thought it was a pessimistic line but it's actually not, it's more a cry of pain and a sense that we are all cold and broken and searching for the light in some way, whether that's God or something else that gives us meaning. And interestingly, people think this is a religious song
Awesome! As a musician there are not many renditions of songs, whether it be instrumental, vocal, or other that touch me. This one by K.D. touches me deeply. I can find my place where I want to be, even if temporarily.

@littlenero :Cohen has written and performed many different versions of this song, including with and without the 'lord of song' verse (personally I missed the 'holy dove' verse more).
She has an amazing voice, but like many who cover the song she edited the lyrics in unfortunate ways that alter the poetry. She cut off one of the last sets of lines "But even though it all went wrong/ I'll stand right here before the lord of song/ with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah". This is the uplifting, redemptive end to the song. The poetry just isn't the same if they get chopped off.

Ill never forget this night. I was sitting about 15 rows away from the stage and her and I was crying like there was no tomorrow in fact my entire row all had tears coming down their eyes. One of the best nights of my life. KD Lang is my favourite female singer of all time.

My boyfriends baby sister was tragically killed December 21, 2011. They were best friends from the time she was born till she died. At her funeral on Jan. 3 2012 It was a packed church, well over 200 attended. my boyfriend, her brother gave the eulogy. It was heart breaking, immediatly following the eulogy we played this song. There wasnt a dry eye, I have never seen so many grown men cry. I wish I could thank K.D. Land personally. Very emotional and lovely song. R.I.P. Shelly Keith.

have you all seen her perform this live? I can't even talk about the experience, honestly. There aren't words to express how moved I was and how I felt during/after. If you get the chance- do it. The audience clapped for a good 10+ minutes afterwards. She sang the SH*T out of this song.

@ancoraimpar0 I am so envious of you! It is one of my "bucket list" things to do.. I *must* hear this woman, sing this song, in my presence.. I am pretty sure there will be tears streaming down my face the entire time. Her rendition of this song is beyond words. No one can sing this like she does, IMO. No one.

@jmfranks78 Oh yes there will be tears. To have THAT much passion, soul, and emotion after countless performances - and still be able to move an entire audience, render them speechless/motionless. I don't even know. I literally felt like she was singing it for the first time, for us, for the very last time. MY.GOD. You'll see her, I have no doubt! ;)

My boyfriends baby sister was tragically killed December 21, 2011. They were best friends from the time she was born till she died. At her funeral on Jan. 3 2012 It was a packed church, well over 200 attended. my boyfriend, her brother gave the eulogy. It was heart breaking, immediatly following the eulogy we played this song. There wasnt a dry eye, I have never seen so many grown men cry. I wish I could thank K.D. Land personally. Very emotional and lovely song. R.I.P. Shelly Keith.

Her performance of this song is very well done. But, don't get carried away. She has not created any new jobs, and she hasn't cured any diseases. My goodness, she didn't even write the music or lyrics. Chill out. If you want to honor someone, send your thnaks to Leonard Cohen.

@judgeofcharacter1961 Leonard Cohen was in an audience where she sang "his" song and even he stood up at the end! Frankly, he looked in awe at what came out of her mouth....he can write it, sorta sing it, but not get the emotional punch k.d. delivers.

@Rosey212 Agreed! Leonard is a great lyricist, but his singing doesn't really have the knack of singing with deep emotion. His version is ok, but this one's incredible!

@Rosey212 thats fine, as an opinion. even in l cohen's early days it was never about pure vocal talent. its pretty obvious that kd might have better pipes, or some physical superiority to l cohen.sure he might stood for a nice performance of a song that he who wrote it says of it, "..its a nice song.."now i know he is humble but, wow....emotional punch? tha"ts all relative is it not? i am not here to start a war with ya by any means... just saying sometimes original Is actually better?
