I live in America, and the first time I saw this I believe I was nine, and of course I thought it a bit too dark. However, I am currently 16 and I think it is still dark ,but its deep and I can really appreciate this masterpiece. I do hate the stereotype that people associate with all Americans(even though I sometimes have to agree unfortunately). Not all of us are completely ignorant. Well at least I'd like to hope so.. Haha ;)
I have to say, I sat through the whole movie and it is by far one of the worst movies EVER! I cannot comprehend why someone would conceive such a idiotic plot and turn it into a film. It's a disgrace to what real animation should be. Look at companies such as Pixar and Classic Disney. Directors such as Hayao Miyazaki and Brad Bird. Films such as Ponyo,Howls Moving Castle,The Incredibles, now that is real animation not this monstrosity called Triplets of Belleville.
@GeOrGiA724 me too! i was really young and i couldn't understand what was going on. and the characters were so weird and scary to me i had nightmares!
@GeOrGiA724 i watched it a few days ago (I'm 13) and it creeped the shit out of me O.O it traumatized me too. and these tree ladies singing are scary too.i mean what kind of children cartoon is it when a man gets eaten by his shoes and there are nude people in it. Sick!!!!
@Lovett19991 - 1.) Bare breasts are not as taboo in Europe as they are in America; you will often see women without tops when you go to beaches in, say, France-- where this movie is made.
2.) It is a cartoon, but it is not a children's movie. Nothing in it is overtly family-unfriendly
3.) I thought the triplets were some cool old ladies.
4.) I am glad this movie made you uncomfortable. Some amount of discomfort can do wonders to expand the mind. :) It's an adventure. Enjoy it!
2) i'm an european (i'm from croatia) but people on our beaches usually don't have tops on just when they are laying on their stomach ,not when they are walking around.
3)the triplets are cool old ladies :D
4) i liked it but it just creeped me out ,i don't know why ,i'm afraid of the caracters in the music videos of the gorillaz too.
@Lovett19991 - You did? I'm glad! I may have taken your words more harshly than you intended them. X);
Sorry for assuming you were American! I guess I don't know much about Europe's views on it as a whole. But I did go to France when I was nine, and I remember going to see one of those shows with the dancing topless women and there being a lot of (mostly older/child) women walking around without tops on the beaches. Freaked me out at the time, but I think it was a good experience.
@dcdrafts where you maybe at the moulin rouge??? i wish i could go to Pariz or to London.HAHAHA good experience indeed if you are a man but most women(i'm one) don't like seeing other women walking around topless.
@Lovett19991 - I don't think it was the Moulin Rouge, but it was something similar. :)
Why should boobs make women uncomfortable when we're the ones who have them? I feel like all of the stigma/sexualization that's attached to breasts is just silly. They're essentially lumps of fat, but people are so _scared_ of them.
That's why it was a good experience for me-- awkward at the time, but it helped me overcome one more goofy, socially-enforced set of rules.
What a fantastic, entertaining masterpiece, really using the power of animation to the fullest.
I can't wait to see the illusionist... the people of Britain are so lacking in culture it was only on the big screen for 1 day so I'm waiting for the DVD
@busessuck1 maybe the cinema distributors are lacking in culture my friend, but certainly not all off the people of Britain. What a sweeping statement!
@busessuck1 Did they really only show it for one day here!?! :O I'm a British Canadian who was born and raised in Britain and I'm really sad that I didn't get to see this. :( Looks like an awesome film!
SO the best film ever. Animation iis amazing, lack of voicing is amazing, art is amazing... Everything. I just wonder: When those fridge men walk with the smaller man... Where are HIS feet? D8
SUCH a weird movie..
