  • just had a 1.5 KW solar grid connected, here it only costs 1,500 , with a 6,200 government rebate

  • @geoffviper where do you live? it looks like you got more money back than you put into the project.

  • I converted my home to a net-zero solar powered home....check out the videos about it on my channel....

  • that mechanical donosour 120/240 single phase 3 wire meter is tested for accuracy only in the fwd direction and may not be as accurate in the revs direction becouse it isnt tested that way

  • ITRON makes a digital meter used in residential application that gives the customer graphs of the pwr delivered by pwr co and by cogen and the net amt and with samples of that every 15 minutes on a data sheet. so watching the meter spin bkwds is cool to show your friends but the new meter is actually useful

  • or tilt it, that will slow it down with at least 50%

  • on my old meter i used to put a big magnet on it to make it move slower.i guess thats alson power saving too. :P

  • well i guess the power company owe you money lol!

  • lol If a house is making enough energy to supply itself and still make more power the power company will actually pay you money at the end of the month

  • thats a nice trick how do i teach mine to do that

  • Hahahaha lmao

  • That's just awesome! I wish mine could do that! =P

  • "Why do you need to sell your extra power? you are already profiting the amount of your monthly bill."

Uh, first because there is satisfaction in having the govt owe YOU money for a change, and second, it's like bitpackrat said, solar power does carry some replacement costs to it.

  • its not 30,000. its about 15,000.00 if you know where to shop, and you dont have to replace them in 20 years.. you just need to take care of them... can always make a call to state farm too :-)

  • Even if this were true (which it is not) $30,000 equates to $125 per month...which is an average electricity bill in TODAY'S DOLLARS AND ELECTRICITY RATES. Therefore, even without ANY inflation, the system pays for itself...what else can you say that about?

  • Check out freewillpower

Forget solar cells for now, they're for NASA-sized budgets and calculators.

  • It requires a permit and a breaker box to prevent back feed. I'd be more concerned about the guy with a generator who hard wires it into a circuit without a breaker box. In that case workers could be hurt.

  • Which is my point exactly. I commented only on the fact that not all utilities allow this setup. I work for an investor-owned utility and we do not allow net metering at this time. As long as people understand the process and can get the permits then I could care less. I just didn't want someone to invest in a system and find out that their electric provider doesn't allow the setup. That's all.

  • Right on. Thanks.

  • Not true, I know some people who have solar power, who are also on the power grid. The Electric company sends THEM a check for GENERATING grid power

  • in utah the law is called net metering. the city has to buy power you don't use for the cost of the cheapest power produced excluding free renewable sources so it's perfectly legal.

  • first of all its not dangerous because as per UL 1741 solar inverters can not be connected to the grid unless the inverters disconnect from the grid with 16 milliseconds of a grid outage.

  • Wow, coo!

  • OR

You could just record a video and play it back in reverse.

  • did you sell it?

  • tell mme how can i get it

  • The major down side to selling the power back to electric company is when you purchase their power, you pay retail + tax. When you sell it back to them they buy it at cost and no tax. This way they still make money off of you, but they are a business and are here to make money, not give things away. Oh well, we can dream, right?

  • uhm are you suggesting that they keep the amount you pay in taxes ??? they pay taxes too but not to you and you dont pay your taxes to them either...

  • The problem is, if everyone uses soolr panels, who will buy the excess powere, and how will people get electricity during the night?

  • There will always be buildings and businesses that will use more power than they generate. They usually have solar to decrease how much they use from the Electric company. Also, the electric company will still produce power durring the night, so I would not worry about it. As a side note, you still have people with wind generators going 24/7.

  • U.S.A. actually buys power from every neighbor countrys... if thats gonna happen its nowhere near :)

  • Why do you need to sell your extra power? you are already profiting the amount of your monthly bill. And as for night power solar systems have a battery bank for reserve electrical capacity. Thus you have power when there is no sun, and it charges back up when there is sun.

  • EnterSolar-.c-o-m

  • Find out how your meter can do the same thing with NO UPFRONT HARDWARE INVESTMENT! Do a search on you tube under "net metering" and watch the miniature solar home display to learn more.

  • Nice dude. I'm doing the same! It rocks! I'm 10Kw now.

  • Very nice, I have definetly heard that if your not running much in the house, on a sunny day, you begin to sell money back to the power company.

  • bah.. not money i mean sell energy. :)

  • "sell" or "give" ?

  • supposedly recieve the same amount they charge you. Except, I somehow doubt that if taxes are paid, that you recieve those.

  • What kinda setup have you got on the roof?
