  • Japanese version of the sandwich. Well said lol. :3

  • yucky nori?

  • @MrJeansy95 I think it's yaki nori.

  • can i use another rice ???

  • @5thLupin I'm not sure if this will help you, but I tried using other rice. It didn't turn out well, but you can give it a shot.

  • @5thLupin better not . use sticky rice...its really bad if you dont use sticky rice

  • @mrblaziner that's *roasted* seaweed, the same kind that is used in sushi rolls and many other Japanese dishes. There are even rice crackers wrapped in it, and it's actually quite tasty! I sometimes eat strips of plain nori for a quick/easy snack. Never had raw seaweed before though.

  • Ahhh, Im so making some today, ahah xD Also... Plastic Wrap? I never thought of that, ty for the idea!

  • @itssmeluvele, great that the kids loved it! It's a healthy, satisfying snack.

  • @anchonicho100. In America, look for calrose rice, Japanese or sushi rice.

  • Would Japanese rice just be white rice (in America)?

  • Ty i subbed you

  • I made this very easy snack and the kids loved it .

  • @MrBlaziner Raw seaweed is never used for an onigiri, only roasted seaweed, which has a paper like texture. You can't wrap an onigiri with "raw" seaweed!

  • she did not enjoy that bite, ive had raw seaweed and it taste nasty, but i let it absorb some of the rices water and it was great.. hers was to raw.

  • Thank you now i;m gonna try and make it

  • That looks good

  • do you eat them hot or cold ?

  • @itsmeluvele i don't think it matters, whatever suits your preference i guess, but that is just my take on it, after all, rice itself can be hot or cold, however i think it should be cold so you can handle it, but maybe you could heat it up after? i'm not quite sure

  • @sysman76 Thanks!

  • very practical directive istructions!!! Thump UP!

  • Milf

  • @UnladylikeBoots You should be able to find Japanese rice at the Asian markets, or even online. In your local supermarket try looking calrose rice.

@Skyshowers @xXToxicWasabiXx, thanks form the compliments!

  • you. are. adorable.. :3

  • Where could one buy japanese rice?

  • @UnladylikeBoots u dont need japanese rice, take italian quality rice like "originario" or "ribe"

  • you look so nice

  • @entererter95 I have never tried it with Jasmine rice, but I'm not sure if it will stick.

  • @ertererter95 yes you can bu put a little salt in it to absorb the water to make it stick better

  • Is it possible to use Jasmine-rice??

  • @ertererter96 yes you can use jasmine rice but it will be no different only the taste becouse of the different rice

  • I agree, it does get salty, but that's the traditional way!

  • Plastic wrap is a great idea! I always used the salt on hands manner but then the onigiri get too big and salty

  • wait so you cook the rice first then do all that stuff

  • @technologic98 yes. exactly that.

  • I wanna try ham and cheese c:

  • Thanks so much!

  • So that's how you pronounce OniGri? I fail T.T

  • @XPAQMAN76 i say it as oni guri xD i fail too

  • @tawnykit19999 Absolutely!

  • could you do it with salmon slices ??

  • imma try it when im eating dinner LOLOL

  • @ChristForever154 and @michelle43246 You can use calrose rice, short grain Japanese or sushi rice. You won't be able to use long grain, basmatti or jasmine rice.

  • does it have to be Japanese rice?

  • what rice did you use? PLEASE ANSWER I BEG U !!

  • @ChristForever154

    its

    sticky rice

  • @ChristForever154 Japanese rice

  • I never thought about using Ce-ran Wrap before, I've only made it by hand. Thanks for the idea :)

  • ive never tried this, what does it taste like?

  • a gde da nadjem tu crnu rizlu ???

  • i always wanna cook onigiri

  • so that's what the black part of a rice ball is! nori!

  • Thanks to anyone who answers. Sometimes I cook rice and add a little too much water. And my rice gets sticky, could I use that to make a rice-ball? Please and thank you to however answers :)

  • Thanks to anyone who answers. Sometimes when I make rice and I add a little too much water... It gets sticky. Do u think I could make a rice ball out of it? Note: I use any kind of rice :/

  • Oh my god it's what they ate all the time in pokemon lol

  • The Original Pokemon has these. XD

  • @Oridomo66: no that's just one suggestion, put in anything you like that goes with rice.

@monkeygirl333sm: When you make an onigiri, make sure the rice is piping hot. If you make it in the morning, it is fine at lunchtime. Salmon is a very good choice.

  • Do you know how long one will last? I've been wanting to bring one to school in my lunch box but I'd rather not eat a rotten onigari. I put salmon in mine. Do you know how long it'll last?

  • Do you have to use tuna?

  • @blookied098: Sorry, no you won't be able to make an onigiri with jasmine rice because the rice won't stick together.

  • Can we use jasmine rice?

  • @jimmydam182 yes, they actually sell tuna mayo onigiri in Japan!

@EeveelutionStorm1, with long grain rice it's better to have it flat in your bento box and sprinkle furikake or sesame seeds on top.

  • I feel like a baka now...-3- I tried making onigiri but of course my dad only makes long grain rice....So it's now an attempt at something original. (Packed my bento for tomorrow's lunch...My octo dogs came out tasty looking at least.)

  • Mayo? O.o

  • @zombiebrakedown1: Yes, in Japan, it's very common to use any type of Japanese or Chinese pickles, such as umeboshi, sour/pickled plum in the center of the onigiri, even soy flavored seaweed works. Many Asian markets have ready made pickles you can use. Japanese pickles are called tsukemono or oshinko.

  • is there any Onigiri that's vegetarian? if so what's it called?

  • @zombiebrakedown1 you can make a vegetarian one!!! chop some spring onion, fry a batter, made of flour, water and vinegar (deep fry it) then mix it together with the rice and spring onion and make it into a ball.... there is no stuffing as the rice is coated with this :)))) really yums

  • @cobberwebb Wow, good for you. I never thought of chili sauce! Rice should be hot or warm, as cold rice won't work because it won't stick.

  • @cobberwebb Wow, good for you. I never thought of chili sauce! Rice should be hot or warm, as cold rice won't work because it won't stick.

  • @cobberwebb: Unfortunately, Thai Jasmine rice won't work. It just won't stick like Japanese rice. You should be able to find a 5 lb. bag of rice. If it says, calrose short grain rice, that will work.

  • @AsianLifestyleDesign OK cheers, found 500g bags of sushi rice and made the balls far too big lol. Don't like mayo so did tuna with sweet chilli sauce, not bad. Should of let the rice cool also....ouch!

  • Would Thai Jasmine rice work? It's described as slightly sticky. Don't want to get a 10kg bag of sushi rice just yet from the local oriental store.

  • YUMMY!! Thank you so much for this video!

    I love it <3

  • Hi everyone, Thanks for your kind words. Let me know what else you'd like to learn okay!

  • ありがとうね!

  • Thank you great tutorial :)

  • is the rice available at walmart? and the seaweed?

  • I wanted to bite it. I guess I should get my own

  • You madam, are awesome.

  • thank you SO much! your so cute!

  • Hmmm I'm not a fan of mayo can u put any meat in it right

  • @Iamking156 you can use anything that you'd like =D

  • Noticehowshestoppedchewinginhadadisgustedfaceonher

  • it looked like you was eating plastic xDDDDDD

  • oh man made this last night, SO YUMMY!

  • this helped me alot! think you vey much!!

  • lol ? eat the plastic ?

  • @Narusax for real!! but its seaweed...lol weed! =P

  • @japanloveralways: They should have short grain rice at an Asian market. Or, you can find it online. Good luck.

  • @RockenBoysGirls: Yes, use sushi rice. You can put anything inside like bits of fried chicken, teriyaki chicken/beef, salmon, asian pickles, basically anything that goes well with rice. Why not even try a scrambled egg? Good luck and please share what you liked!

  • THANK YOU, I FINALLY KNOW HOW TO MAKE SOME ONIGIRI FOR MY FAMILY NOW :)

  • @omganaaccountname - please try it!

    @lunarshift - I like QP may too

    @GhostinTheShell09 - if you're gluten intolerant, it's a good alternative.

@kookiekruncher - do you live near an Asian market? Otherwise, there are asian groceries online that you can try. Many supermarkets carry calrose rice - that'll do fine.

  • where can i buy short grain rice in america ??

  • wow this is great !!! i always wanted to try these. no more bread sandwiches for me for lunch !!! i will have rice balls from now on, ...i mean onigiri

    yes ! thank you !!! i wish i was japanese too !!!! T_T

  • I like mine with wasabi and QP mayo

  • Thank you very much for the recipe :) It looks good!

  • @renaee342: rice cakes are usually sweet, rice balls are savory

@comicreaper: sorry won't work with basmati

@x3tammy808: spam musubi is a Hawaii original - I don't live in Hawaii now, but was born there.

  • i thought musabi was spam rice and seaweed o-o

    do you live in hawaii?

  • damn i only have basmati rice right now.

  • D: woa I never knew just how simple it was to actually make these I'm going to try it sometime. :D Thank you for the video!

  • All this time watching anime I thought rice balls were sweet.

  • Thanks for showing this. JUst had it for lunch with jalopeno canned tuna! SOOOO delicious and easy! If you could make more food videos that would be soo awesome!

  • @AmikoLittle - Easy and delicious is always good. I am trying to make more videos in the future! Just taking a while - sorry but thanks for the positive comments!

  • can i make buch and enjoy them all week / how do i store them for a couple of days?

  • @con439 yes, good point. make enough for a week and with the plastic wrap, place them directly in the freezer. When you are ready to eat, microwave ane remove plastic and wrap with roasted seaweed/ nori. They will keep for some time in the freezer, or a few days in the refrigerator.

  • OH you me Donuts acoarding to pokemon

  • Thank you so much! I am going to try this for sure! possibly tonight even hehe. Arigato Jennysan!

  • @Yajarobi69 Yes, please do try it tonight! Oishi yo.

  • where i can buy that leaf? hmm?? please tell me =( i want to make onigiri...

  • @masiyahin1234

The leaf is dried seaweed called nori. As I mentioned below buy Yaki Nori,or Sushi nori. They can usually be purchased at Asian Supermarkets.

  • Is Nori the english equivalent of seaweed? It's readily available in my area and looks very similiar. But it's not as easy to chew. :D Thanks!

  • @RupertFilbert

Yes, Nori is seaweed, however, there is a variety of dried seaweed. What you need to look for is Yaki Nori, or Roasted Seaweed, sometimes it's called Sushi Seaweed. It looks like black paper, usually comes in large square sheets and should be crisp. If it bends instead of tears, the nori could be old or stale. There is flavored nori as well, called ajitsuke nori and has a sweet soy flavor, but I like the plain roasted seaweed for rice balls.

  • loved the video, very helpful. So want to try this I myself ^_^ This woman should have her own show I think.

  • @MartyP26

Thanks for the generous comment! Yes do give it a try!

  • Ok- how did I not think about using saran wrap? This is a great tip and made shaping my onigiri MUCH easier! Thank you for sharing!

  • @lovelyfeylovely

Yes, isn't it easier. Plus, it keeps hands and food clean!

  • @zezejoker: So happy you gave it go! It's a great snack and good to take for lunch.

@pinoyALLmotor: Yes, you can put anything inside like leftover teriyaki - just chop it up into small pieces.

  • can I put something else other than tuna? Like pork, chicken, beef or something?

  • @NOMNOMNOMmonster: as RaileyLeo said, the answer is "yes" you can make it with plain rice. In Japan, sometimes they just add a bit of salt. Don't add butter though because the oil will separate the rice making it unable to stick.

  • hmmmm, is it any good with just plain rice? nothing inside? when it comes to food i like plain things, especially with rice, like, ill have butter with my white rice but will that effect the stickiness of this rice?

  • Do they even sell seaweed in regular super markets?

  • @trish016 : Most supermarkets on the West Coast do carry it in the Asian food department. Otherwise, you may have to go to an Asian market.

  • I don't really like Seaweed or Tuna. But I do want to try a Riceball without tuna or seaweed.

I've actually tried seaweed. Its really dry. I prefer it dipped into some kind of sauce that my grandma makes.

  • @Darkangel22134 : You can make a rice ball with teriyaki chicken or beef inside and it isn't necessary to have the seaweed either. Go ahead and use ingredients that you enjoy.

  • @AsianLifestyleDesign Really? Thats good to know.

  • wonderful name in japan, wonderful name in hawaii and the english... "rice ball" oh us english are sooo creative ¬_¬

  • @SimplyBecauseItsMe

Hey. We like to keep it simple. lool XD

  • @SimplyBecauseItsMe Those names probably mean "rice ball" in their native languages...

  • do you need to use japinese rice for rice ball?

  • @132samster : Look for Japanese, sushi or Calrose rice

  • @132samster for the most part, with some other rices (long grain and such) it doesnt become sticky enough and its harder to mold.

  • the balls look yummy

  • @ErickAngelSanchez yeah? then lick it.......LOL jkjk

  • @Xrosder Yes, the black stuff is seaweed and is pronounced Nori. It contains many minerals and vitamins and is very good for you, so please try!

  • it looks good and thanks for making the triangle rice ball so i know but i still want to make it complete so it looks just like in the anime series

  • @subpower1 What does it look like in the anime series? Which one do you watch?

  • @AsianLifestyleDesign it looks like a triangle in like all anime series'

  • @NOMNOMNOMmonster that is y i want to try this and see how good it is lol

  • Nodi that black stuff is eatable I thought it was like paper or something lol anyways it looks really good have to try it.

  • Hi Jenny, I love your video. I was just wondering... Is there is any way you could do this with brown rice?

  • @NeuroPsychGirl Good question! I have seen onigiri made with brown rice and multigrain rice but have not tried it myself. I will try and will let you know how it goes!

  • i just saw this and luckily i had all the ingridients around lol it was tasty :)

  • @Lucasswipe Thanks for trying and yes, you can have these ingredients in your cupboard at all times!

  • Hi Everyone, Thanks for watching!

@truepaganini: Just use regular unflavored small grain rice, not sushi rice.

@Kirayusama: I don't know what you mean by "regular" rice. I have another YouTube video on How to Cook Japanese Rice - hope that one will help.

@ChaChaDave. Happy to hear you will try!

@parakeets124: Sorry, good point. You need Japanese short grain rice, one can of tuna mixed with mayonnaise, one packet of nori - roasted dried seaweed.

  • Very good video, but i would start off with telling us the ingredients because im looking how to make them but i dont know what to get. +=P

  • Hi. Enjoyed the video....very well done.....I will try this. Thanks.

  • is there a way where u can just use regular rice?

  • Just a question, is the rice you use prepared as sushi rice, or is it just made regularly? Thanks and great video :)

  • @otakujenchan11: Wow, never knew long rice could stick!

@TheAhTing: Now you know how to make them yourself!

@animeeloverr12: What is owo? What about shiratama dango?

@saralhrules: Great job and happy you are sharing!

  • wow
