I won't pretend I don't like a fight or two a game, but this was absurd. It was unsportsmanlike by both teams & more so a complete lack of character by the Islanders particularly.
I think I'm speaking for every one who has common sense when I say that the way the Islanders played was disrespectful and unreal. They were winning 8 to 3 and yet still felt that for some reason they needed to fight. I've never been so scared to watch a hockey game in my life, and it felt as though I was watching some death match instead. The sucker punch of Talbot was dirty and the way Gillies stood off to the side and yelled at Tangradi was a joke. What and embarrassment to the NHL.

I think I'm speaking for every one who has common sense when I say that the way the Islanders played was disrespectful and unreal. They were winning 8 to 3 and yet still felt that for some reason they needed to fight. I've never been so scared to watch a hockey game in my life, and it felt as though I was watching some death match instead. The sucker punch of Talbot was dirty and the way Gillies stood off to the side and yelled at Tangradi was a joke. What and embarrassment to the NHL.

Matt Martin's actions may be over the line, but that's hockey emotion, and he probably got a few games too many. Haley took on willing combatants (he got thrown out because he was in 3 fights---automatic ejection on the third).
Trevor Gillies' actions, however, are inexcusable...elbowing, punching, and then taunting Tangradi? He has no place in professional hockey...and why is he needed when the Islanders have Zenon Konopka on the roster (who can actually play hockey and also win faceoffs)?

Half of these fights were initiated by the Penguins cause they were crying about being down 4 + goals to the "worst team in the NHL" If you were following the Isles this season, you'd see the tremendous growth that they have made, all while haveing a league leading man-injury game losses. Seriously, If the teams were reversed, people would be saying, "the pens are awesome for sticking up for their team, this is what a real NHL team looks like." But because the Isles haven't won a cup in 30 years, they automatically the bad guys. The announcers heads are up their asses. None of that fighting was spur of the moment because of emotions, it was premeditated retribution for things that happened a week ago.
