That's Cozy on drums and Bobby Tench on vocals (later contributed guitar/vocals with Chapman/Whitney in the Streetwalkers - a post-Family band worth checking out if you haven't heard them). Piano is the late great Tony Ashton (Ashton,Gardener, Dyke, Family and Paice, Ashton & Lord). I love this but I agree with other posts - Nazareth nailed this song and made it their own. Sometimes less is more!
@hydraIX I think it is Cozy. I'd know for sure if he kept his head still for long enough in the close-ups :-). Certainly he was in the Jeff Beck Group around this time.
with both guitar and drum legend in place fairly good, the robert plant version sends me to sleep, however the nazareth version is far the best version in my opinion.
@eunicefinger Sad, isn't it?! Don't get me wrong--Billy Cobham IS a genius, and James Brown's drum alum were all fucking amazingly great drummers (ditto Frank Zappa's stickmen) but rock drumming's different--neither better nor worse, but its own style with its own agenda and purpose--and the TechniqueMeisters do not and will not ever get that. And even when they seem to, they typically have no guts, no soul and nothing to say (V Colaiuta in any 4/4 blues or rock setting, for example). Rant over.
@cranie4....Relative to when this stuff came out, I am a kid! And this is what I listen to stoned these days, for the reason you mentioned! Hahaha...but especially Blow by Blow, listening to that album stoned is beyond enjoyable, one might say orgasmic, hahahaha.
I wonder if Cozy could have gotten the hat any farther away from him with it still being functional? Is it the drummer equivalent of say Page's low strung guitar? :")
This series of the Jeff Beck Group uploaded by Gyozateisyoku is one of my favorites on Youtube. Brings back great memories of the J.B group and it's video I didn't see back in the 1970's. Every member of this group excels in their field!
this song could go one for ever ...

BillyMacQ 8 months ago
@BillyMacQ This is their excellent version of Morning Dew. Enjoy!!!
ckelley63 8 months ago
@BillyMacQ I can see why you got the allman brothers' 'whipping post' as the riff at 1.20 is similar.

Great version! Tench takes on Stewart and holds up, no doubt about it!
And the band... come on. It's too good.
