what a lovely tune! music seemed a little more simpler then, and happier,or is that just the past looking better then it actually was? what ever the music was great!
i love this era, the new seekers were a great looking bunch of guys and girls, great harmony to great songs, you cant beat the 60's and 70's for music. so many memories of great days :)
Proof that the seventies had pop as everlasting as the legendary decade that preceded it. This shimmers and soars. I love this record along with a few million others. Beautiful, accomplished, unforgettable. A 100 carat classic.
wat u mean by a crap decade? the new seekers, bee gees, abba, the patridge family, osmonds, eagles, carpenters, ONJ, etc This is the Golden Generation that the youths today has not experience and will never ever!!! Memories comes back with numbers like this...
@ngjoe77 Well I am one of the lucky ones as I was born in '86 but listened to a lot of this saught of music on our family drives and subsequently on the radio and have never really warmed to the music of my generation (although some 90s stuff is alright). Though once the 70s folks die out it will substantially reduce I am sure there'll always be those that will keep the flame burning :)
This song is so jolly. There's something rather depressing about thinking of them going home to a greasy split-level cooker in a house subdivided into flats.... :-(
I remember that campaign ("keep Britain tidy"). The US had "keep America Beautiful", but the English slogan makes the whole island sound like a house. "We'll dust Wales on Monday, hoover England on Tuesday, scrub Scotland on Wednesday and if we have the time we'll empty the all the ashtrays on the entire island, too."
This song was released when I was only 13 years old and I had a real teenage crush on Lynn. Guess what - I still have!! She is G-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-rgeous to the extreme - and that voice hmmmmm!
Every decade has it's lackluster moments(such as this one). But we always have something to take home with us with each passing generation, and this song is no exception(and I wasn't even born in the 70's)!
@verkaforever I think it's one of their better ones. It's rather different from most of their other songs, which all sound like they should be in the Eurovision Song Contest...
@shmuli9 You are entitled to your opinion. I don't think it is bad, as I said, just not one of their best. By the way, did you know "Beg, Steal or Borrow" WAS in Eurovision in 1972? I am a Eurovision fan. My favourite New Seekers song is probably one of their lesser known ones, called "Come Softly To Me". It only reached about No.20, but should have been a huge hit in my opinion.
@verkaforever Yes, I used to have "Beg Steal or Borrow" on a Eurovision double CD. It also had songs like "Sing Little Bluebird" (which I loved) and "I'm Alive" by Kathy Kirby... I'll check out their version of "Come Softly to Me"...
@verkaforever Yes, it had mostly English and Irish artists, but a few other artists, but singing the English version of songs. (The English version of "La La La" sounds more Russian-accented than Spanish-accented.) Yes, I found their version of "Come Softly to Me" on here. I think it was from "The Sonny and Cher Show"...
@verkaforever Oh, I liked it better than the original (by the Fleetwoods). And the way they were posed for the appaerance was more interesting than everyone stadning in a line, or signing into one microphone...
@shmuli9 I'm glad you liked the song. I like it better than the original also. I expect you noticed the words are slightly different. That is why I prefer it- I think the lyric changes make the song more meaningful.
I feel very strongly about the so-called '40th Anniversary Tour'. If Eve Graham and Lyn Paul were involved then yes it would be fantastic. The current line-up should not be allowed to use the NEW SEEKERS name. However, thank goodness we have loads of videos featuring the classic original line up of the 70's available. Come on Marty, Paul, Peter (Oliver) ... get together again with the lovely Eve and Lyn. (Peter Doyle you are sadly missed but always remembered.) When We Were Small
What a relief to see the real people!!! I realise Peter Doyle wasn't there but Peter Oliver made a wonderful substitute. Boy could they sing unlike the inferior lot of today!
especially lyn paul, she was a doll and she looked and sounded stunning. yep! i'm not a sad old git n neither are you pal. Lets face it, for the time, there were no better looking women around with the lust factor like her eh!!!

Happy NEW YEAR! A new decade has just begun. It's the time when we look back and get a little sentimental but also look foward to what lies ahead.
Cheers!

@Raggy60 The 70ths wasn't one homogeneous era. The later part of the 70ths had had a lot to be desired.
