Great arrangement to a great song. The Mavericks really know how to work a song. Hank Williams and Norah Jones are great arrangements as well. The Mavericks just had an innovative and fresh take on this classic.
@mlinton74 Nope they never did. I was a DJ in country clubs for years and looked for this high and low. You gotta remember, the Marty Party was sort of like a jam session and, well....a party! There were other artists who appeared and did songs they never recorded also.
Are you kidding me? Nothing against a slow foxtrot, but this song is perfect, just the way it is. Didn't you hear what Marty said at the begining? "You guys are different, and we need some more different around here! This song kicks some country ass!
@cgplus3 Nor kidding, but our dance class is playing his CD for all sorts of dances and tonight we danced to this for a quickstep( or foxtrot as you call it in the US. it's no good froa SLOW foxtrot but for a quickstep foxtrot it was superb-- We were flying across the floor. I hear wha\t you say about being different, I love originality -my comment was about it's suitability for a particular dance, not criticising them for daring to be different.
I love Raul Malo, and I love this song((especially to dance a slow foxtrot to),
But sadly this did not do it for me. If raul sang it with the same tempo as Jimmy Ellis and Jerry Lee Lewis did ( it's on YouTube) it would be brillliant. Even Nat Kng Cole tempo would be better, raul's voice is made for this song at that tempo.
I think I have said before on these videos that Raul could make rap audible. I love how the Mavericks turn the old classics to stuff you can move too. thanks for the video
oh man, this makes me feel good. ≈:¬]

What a travesty. One of the classic tear-in-my-beer songs souped up and trashed. Show some respect boys.

hhmmmn, not keen on the boogie woogie treatment, sorry Raul. Think it would have sounded better slower.. but it is original.

I'll remember Hank forever. This version I'll never lose a moment's sleep over. Any 6 boogie-woogie players could've done this equally or better.
