Of ALL the tribute bands in existence for ANY band this is by FAR the closest to the original classic rock band PERIOD. Unbelievable! From a distance half the band even looks like the original members of Yes. Gotta go to Montreal and see this...
'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religous toleration to offer them an asylum.' John Adams, 2nd President of the U.S.A
Benoit gets a lot of (well-deserved) recognition, but the rest of these guys are no less amazing. That bass solo was freaking awesome! Everything—including the engineering—is superb. The first record I ever bought was Close to the Edge back in 1978. I've loved this music for more than 30 years, and to my ears this band has proven that they can play this music expertly and, more importantly, that they GET it. BRAVO, CTTE!
And besides, the singer of CTTE on this video, Benoit David, has been the new Yes singer for almost 3 years now. Nothing close to false advertising here. Any genuine Yes fan or anyone who takes the time to do a teeny weeny bit of research knows the story and the name of our band.
It's THIS GUY'S fault that I will probably never fucking get to see Yes play live. I had fucking tickets to their 40th anniversary tour and Anderson's asthma attack and the ensuing cancellation of the tour was just about the biggest disappointment of my life.
I know Benoit David didn't really do anything wrong by playing with Yes; it's gotta be any tribute singer's dream. I blame Chris Squire for essentially booting Jon out and replacing him with this youngster. Now I will never see Yes. =(
He's decent as a tribute but, HE IS NOT JON ANDERSON. I saw the real thing last night in Philly . If yes wants a tribute singer they can have em. I am one that WILL NOT GO & SEE YES UNLESS JON IS SINGING. If they call themselves YES LIGHT ,give me free tickets & are playing down the street...ya might get me to go then
@EDJ1845 What happens when the members of Yes eventually die? Of course their recordings will endure, but music that isn't performed might as well be dead. I'm thankful that there are musicians of this caliber who take it upon themselves to preserve this music by performing it live. God knows they can't earn what they deserve, thanks to copyright laws. They're in it for the love of the music, and that's as good as we can wish for.
By the way, Close to the Edge (the band) is absolutely incredible! Probably the best tribute band I've ever heard. Such accomplished musicians and so true to the sound and spirit of Yes. Bravo! Sorry you lost your singer! Maybe it's a blessing in disguise? As one door closes another opens...
Just say Yes last night at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. The first show of their 2010 tour! They sounded incredible! The singer-Benoit David-was an absolute phenomenon! Never, ever thought I'd hear another singer who sounded exactly like Jon Anderson! The band also featured Rick Wakeman's son, Oliver on keyboards (what else?) who was nothing short of fantastic! The entire band played their asses off and they had a blast and so did the audience! One of the best shows I've seen!
How is it possible..? These guys sound so very similar, harmonies are amazing, the Chris Squire guy is a monster like the original - these guys pay attention to musical detail - I'm blown away right now...
I will say I do like Alan's work in The Gates of Delirum & Awaken.
For me Alan Whites drumming has always been competent, but tonally or stylisticly or something, I just tend not to notice it. Bill Bruford, Bill Ward in Sabbath, Phil Colins, Lenny White, their sounds just stands out!
I have a bootleg of ABWH with Levin & Bruford playing in chicago, I'll try to post it soon, take a listen to him playing CTTE.
You'll see what I mean.
Maybe I'm saying, there is no uniqueness to his sound.

Impressive, but why does the guitarist seem so stiff? Perhaps because he is just doing this by rote memory and they aren't his creations, but still might impressive. For a great tribute also see Randy Hansen doing Hendrix!
This is a great "Replication," of some of the best music of it's genre' in the 70's.
And here comes the, "But," I listened twice, closing my eyes to focus on the vocals, which are so so very close.
Still, having been a teenager, doing what so many people did with "shroons," 4 way hits, microdot, etc., because we saw "Yes," music as some of the best trip music, I can't "Feel," it as deeply without Jon's voice.
Again, it's so close, but the feeling isn't there for me.

Wow on all accounts. Quebec has some of best musicians around . Musical Box ,comes to mind as well. Uzeb in the fusion area and of course from that band Alain Caron, WOW.The bass sound is incredible.
Unbelievable! You guys sound great. Can't wait to hear Benoit in Chicago in December. I've been listening to Yes music since the early 1970s, and while I'll miss seeing/hearing Jon, I'm looking forward to hearing his clone. ;-)
You guys should tour the US. You have a great sound. Benoit - great job on the present tour. Saw you in Asbury Park, NJ. Your band should be proud of you.
While disappointed that Jon won't be there.. I'm still looking forward to seeing Yes, or notyes as some of you call them.. At House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. This will be my third Yes concert in 20 years and I'm stoked! I'm Happy, albiet envious, for Benois. For him, this must be a dream come true.
I think they were all great, Especially the Bass. He had Chris Squires treble down pat. The vocals were great also. He was not exactly like Jon Anderson but similar. He did have his certain graces. A perfect replacement for the tour but not permanant. If it ever came down to hime replacing him if J.A left the band, yes definitly!!
I have been a Yes fan for 40 yrs! There is NO REPLACING Chris Squire, PERIOD. He has more energy than a Tazmanian Devil!Gonna see him on Dec 2 in St. Louis, These guys do Yes PROUD. tHEY CAN REALLY PLAY a band that can't be duplicated, so nicely. Can't wait till Jon returns
ok, i'm a hard ass about this "not yes" thing. i finally looked for some live mr david. ok, he looks like a nice guy, his voice does not insult me, i'm a jon anderson lover.... not yes is coming within 100 miles of new orleans... i might go see shwdw... with much resentment, but i think i could get out the house and enjoy the evening. but, with the intent of seeing this as warm ups for getting back with jon anderson.
I don't read any outrage here. I read a difference of opinion about what people consider to be Yes.
I never saw Elvis - and going to see his backing band play while Elvis was on a screen did not appeal to me one bit - too "broadway" for me. David will impersonate Jon, it is what he excellently does. I am a wee bit surprised that that is so difficult to understand.
Here I hear a fantastic tribute band - ongoing well done five gentlemen of Canada, when you get to london count on me to attend.
I would have waited another year for Jon to get well to see him in concert (I would have waited forever....get it). He definitely carries the band with his emotion.
I don't see why all the outrage. It seems to me that Jon himself has quite ruthlessly fired various members in the past. It would've been courteous and deserving for the guys to have called while he's been ill though. However, music is business and Jon should understand that as well as anyone. Benoit a great voice and I'm looking forward to seeing this one of many Yes incarnations. I hope and pray that Jon has a full recovery and that we get a chance to see him perform again soon.
We are all here because of Jon & Chris. While this is clearly a superb tribute band and I wish them luck I am not comfortable that the lead singer has replaced Jon for a tour under the Yes banner. Can anyone imagine the Beatles without John? Oh, and I know about 1980 and I like Drama. But that was different, Jon wasn't ill then and unable to tour - as he is now.
Like I say, this is my personal view and others are entitled to theirs. I just feel bad in my gut about this potential parody Yes.
When those video were recorded, it was not even a dream then for Benoît to join in with Yes..Those guys were just having fun and they were playing for us Yesfans..I was proud of them then, I'm even prouder right now..I can see how much work there is behind it..
Boycotting Yes because Benoît is in it is rather , well, tough to understand..in the present time..remember 1980...I was sad then but I never gave up hoping for a continous Yesworld..I just love Yes music...I will always do I think..
He's a good singer and has Jon's voice down good. But, it's not yes without Jon's spirit , heart, energy that makes yes whole. NO one can take his place, no matter how good the voice. I wont go see them either, ticket prices are too high and without Jon, no thanks.
The more I listen & watch this clips the more I look forward to seeing them live in November. Benoit your a great vocalist and I know that you'll do a great job on this tour. I wish you all the best luck in the world.
Geez....I'm an idiot, sorry, I have an opinion, and I've been listening & seeing yes since the early 70's.
If you really like Benoit, go for it. I don't. Jon is the spirit of yes ( to me) and I have a right to my opinion. We all have musical likes and dislikes, I don't call someone an idiot for it. Grow up...
Sorry for the insult but I am sick of other people bashing Benoit. Your right everybody has a right to there opinion and I had no right to call you an idiot.
Let me ask you one question.
Are you mad at Yes for not waiting for Jon to get back or do you dislike Benoit's voice?
I will grow up. I am not a child but sometimes I act like one.
Jon should get Adam Wakeman, Bill Bill Bruford and Trevor Rabin with say Guy Pratt on bass and go out as Yes Too (geddit)!!! I'd go and see that instead.
Fucking ridiculous doing it without Jon. I seem to have read Steve Howe did not like his guitar parts being played by anyone else, so another vocalist is ok then? Why could they have not waited, given Howe time to get a wig and Squire, bless iim' to lose the flab! Yes contrive to cock up as usual! I saw them in 2003 at Hammersmith and they looked to be going through the motions a bit.
NO way! Boycott Yes without Anderson ! Read what Jon Anderson has said on his website This was done without his consent or OK. What a dissappointment, they will not get my support
Why the obsession about hearing DRAMA tracks live ? Recordings of this material exist so why not listen to these ? Better still why not dig out the original studio recording ? Additionally for Chris Squire et al to totally disregard Jon's wishes is an utter disgrace. No wonder poor Jon feels hurt. Who wouldn't ?
Phenomenal, excellent, bravo! Especially noteworthy: the tremendous bass soloing from minutes four to six. Close To The Edge is one great band. P.S. Wonderful to hear (at least parts of) "Tempus Fugit" performed live. I hope to experience this song live finally when the new Yes lineup tours.
I've heard 'Fugit' AND 'Machine Messiah' are up for consideration. It'd be cool if they play both. But I really hope they play 'On the Silent wings of Freedom.' Such an awesome forgotten song (made Tormato worth buying, in my mind). And 'Parellels,' I pray they'll play that one.
I just wonder about those four new "Lengthy, multi-part epics' they wrote for the planned tour. I think they should save those until Jon's back. It'd just be strange if they didn't.
I am deeply sadened by this fiasco! I will never see this tour. This is total disrespect to the soul of Yes and it's fans. Chris has decided that a paycheck is more important. How do we let Chris know that we as fans want the band to wait for Jon.
Great replacement for Jon Anderson!!! I saw journey in the Summer and closed my eyes throughout half the show and I thought I was at an early 70's show with Steve Perry singing. I look forward to seeing Yes again after seeing them in 1987 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada. Trevor Rabin was playing guitar and I am really excited about seeing the great Steve Howe!!!
It's wrong, YesFans. Read Jon's comments on his web page and MySpace sites. Journey did the same thing to Steve Perry for making a personal health decision and it was wrong then. Chris Squire should literally read the writing on the wall. This could not only fracture YES, but YESFANS as well. Revolving doors are expected with yes in some cases like Rick's because you know he'll be back... not the case here. Come on loyal YesFans, let Chris Squire know waiting for Jon a bit longer is worth it.
WOW I just found out!!!!! He sounds more like Jon than Trevor Horn. I'll go becuse I will go anywhere to see Steve Howe and Chris Squire play together. I was also looking forward to seeing Adam Wakeman. I'm there for the New Chapter.
Adam's older brother Oliver is actually going to play with the band. Oliver also played keys with Starcastle last year, at the Rites of Spring Festival. Check out the videos of Starcastle I uploaded.
Benoit David, lead singer of Close to the Edge WILL be replacing Jon Anderson and going on tour with Squire, White, Howe and probably Oliver Wakeman! Yes! I will be there!
Well I could pick holes in it but I think that would be a bit petty of me.
I think though the only thing really missing, as has been pointed out by other posters, is the lack of stage presentation/presence. They just need to move about more like they're feeling/living/being the music. Some of the singer's movements were a bit, well, um, camp...still, his vocal sound and range were very suitable for someone taking the part of Jon Anderson.
"...need to move about more like they're feeling/living/being the music. Some of the singer's movements were a bit, well, um, camp..."
Well, Jon Anderson ain't exactly MC Hammer onstage either. Don't take me wrong, Yes is one of my favorites. I've spent a small fortune on their recordings and live performances.
Very nicely done!I look forward to hearing more from you all. What is the best way to contact you as far as the possibility of performance and promotion?
Good: You are all amazing musicians and you sound fucking great.
Bad: You all need to work on developing stage presence. Why isn't the guitarist putting his face through contorted, disgusting histrionics? Why isn't the bassist leaping and jumping about? You would be all the more awesome if you were actually fun to watch.
I'd tend to agree. The sound is fantastic but the presence is a little lacking. Not that it detracts from the sound, but that excitement definitly helps make Yes one of the coolest bands to see live. Another plus is that the dynamics are fantastic. Great interplay and really smooth transitions in between pieces of a song; one of the more underappreciated skills of Yes if you ask me. Keep up the great work.

Perfect! These guys aren't poppish at all, this is pure rock right here! Especially Close To The Edge! I almost thought this was Yes.

Great job in St. Louis, Benoit!!! Please bring your Close to the Edge bandmates thru StL sometime, we'd love to see you guys, too.

Wow! That was the best Yes tribute song that I've ever heard, and to do "Close to the edge". Awesome!

great job!! great sound with the bass by the way..very close to Squier.I can hear a Sansamp maybe..

It's cool Jon, it just turns out you had a pretty damn good understudy. Now get well and get back out there.

Well at least it's not going to be like the "Drama" tour. God Speed Jon Anderson, the 41st aniversary tour will be just as good if not better.

I think they were all great, Especially the Bass. He had Chris Squires treble down pat. The vocals were great also. He was not exactly like Jon Anderson but similar. He did have his certain graces. A perfect replacement for the tour but not permanant. If it ever came down to hime replacing him if J.A left the band, yes definitly!!
fromtvandback 3 years ago
I have been a Yes fan for 40 yrs! There is NO REPLACING Chris Squire, PERIOD. He has more energy than a Tazmanian Devil!Gonna see him on Dec 2 in St. Louis, These guys do Yes PROUD. tHEY CAN REALLY PLAY a band that can't be duplicated, so nicely. Can't wait till Jon returns

ok, i'm a hard ass about this "not yes" thing. i finally looked for some live mr david. ok, he looks like a nice guy, his voice does not insult me, i'm a jon anderson lover.... not yes is coming within 100 miles of new orleans... i might go see shwdw... with much resentment, but i think i could get out the house and enjoy the evening. but, with the intent of seeing this as warm ups for getting back with jon anderson.
wennykelly1 3 years ago
I don't read any outrage here. I read a difference of opinion about what people consider to be Yes.
I never saw Elvis - and going to see his backing band play while Elvis was on a screen did not appeal to me one bit - too "broadway" for me. David will impersonate Jon, it is what he excellently does. I am a wee bit surprised that that is so difficult to understand.
Here I hear a fantastic tribute band - ongoing well done five gentlemen of Canada, when you get to london count on me to attend.
trashysinatra 3 years ago
His voice is really good, but has no soul...no backbone to it. It truly doesnt carry Jons devotion.
Gorzugi133 3 years ago
I would have waited another year for Jon to get well to see him in concert (I would have waited forever....get it). He definitely carries the band with his emotion.
Resevil 3 years ago

I just feel bad in my gut about this potential parody Yes.
trashysinatra 3 years ago

I wont go see them either, ticket prices are too high and without Jon, no thanks.
sage408 3 years ago
The more I listen & watch this clips the more I look forward to seeing them live in November. Benoit your a great vocalist and I know that you'll do a great job on this tour. I wish you all the best luck in the world.
bddrex 3 years ago 2
No Jon Anderson, no yes.
Without Jon's voice, the spirit, the magic, is not the same. This guy comes close, but never the same without Jon.
I won't see yes without Jon at vocals.

Grow up...
Bumpercars2 3 years ago
Sorry for the insult but I am sick of other people bashing Benoit. Your right everybody has a right to there opinion and I had no right to call you an idiot.
Let me ask you one question.
Are you mad at Yes for not waiting for Jon to get back or do you dislike Benoit's voice?
I will grow up. I am not a child but sometimes I act like one.
bddrex 3 years ago
Well done bddrex for showing the strength to apologise. my hat is off to you for that.
Regardless of my personal view I do wish Yes2008 success and hope that you et al. enjoy a lovely evening in November.

Jon should get Adam Wakeman, Bill Bill Bruford and Trevor Rabin with say Guy Pratt on bass and go out as Yes Too (geddit)!!! I'd go and see that instead.
tet1963 3 years ago
Fucking ridiculous doing it without Jon. I seem to have read Steve Howe did not like his guitar parts being played by anyone else, so another vocalist is ok then? Why could they have not waited, given Howe time to get a wig and Squire, bless iim' to lose the flab! Yes contrive to cock up as usual! I saw them in 2003 at Hammersmith and they looked to be going through the motions a bit.
tet1963 3 years ago

Codinatin 3 years ago
Phenomenal, excellent, bravo! Especially noteworthy: the tremendous bass soloing from minutes four to six. Close To The Edge is one great band. P.S. Wonderful to hear (at least parts of) "Tempus Fugit" performed live. I hope to experience this song live finally when the new Yes lineup tours.
eyerock36 3 years ago 6
I've heard 'Fugit' AND 'Machine Messiah' are up for consideration. It'd be cool if they play both. But I really hope they play 'On the Silent wings of Freedom.' Such an awesome forgotten song (made Tormato worth buying, in my mind). And 'Parellels,' I pray they'll play that one.
I just wonder about those four new "Lengthy, multi-part epics' they wrote for the planned tour. I think they should save those until Jon's back. It'd just be strange if they didn't.
WhatGorilla 3 years ago 2
I am deeply sadened by this fiasco! I will never see this tour. This is total disrespect to the soul of Yes and it's fans. Chris has decided that a paycheck is more important. How do we let Chris know that we as fans want the band to wait for Jon.

nope...sorry ain't gonna happen....nice guy i'm sure, but NO-ONE should even try to imitate Jon...sorry.

Trevor Rabin was playing guitar and I am really excited about seeing the great Steve Howe!!!
pateno24 3 years ago
It's wrong, YesFans. Read Jon's comments on his web page and MySpace sites. Journey did the same thing to Steve Perry for making a personal health decision and it was wrong then. Chris Squire should literally read the writing on the wall. This could not only fracture YES, but YESFANS as well. Revolving doors are expected with yes in some cases like Rick's because you know he'll be back... not the case here. Come on loyal YesFans, let Chris Squire know waiting for Jon a bit longer is worth it.
ChrisBoylan 3 years ago
If the ticket prices are reasonable, I'll go see them.
Regarding Chris et al. waiting on Jon, I think it's down in many ways to money: I think the guys financially need this tour.
And, not considering Jon's illness, Chris et al. HAVE been waiting on Jon. It was Jon who kept the band at bay with solo work.
Jon--love ya, get better and perhaps we'll see you in 2009.

danielsylvain 3 years ago
Well I could pick holes in it but I think that would be a bit petty of me.
I think though the only thing really missing, as has been pointed out by other posters, is the lack of stage presentation/presence. They just need to move about more like they're feeling/living/being the music. Some of the singer's movements were a bit, well, um, camp...still, his vocal sound and range were very suitable for someone taking the part of Jon Anderson.
jpjeffery 3 years ago
"...need to move about more like they're feeling/living/being the music. Some of the singer's movements were a bit, well, um, camp..."
Well, Jon Anderson ain't exactly MC Hammer onstage either. Don't take me wrong, Yes is one of my favorites. I've spent a small fortune on their recordings and live performances.

than the performance of Chris.

Caulfield789 4 years ago
I'd tend to agree. The sound is fantastic but the presence is a little lacking. Not that it detracts from the sound, but that excitement definitly helps make Yes one of the coolest bands to see live. Another plus is that the dynamics are fantastic. Great interplay and really smooth transitions in between pieces of a song; one of the more underappreciated skills of Yes if you ask me. Keep up the great work.
