The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 in the midst of racial turmoil in the US. The Act was passed to prohibit public entities (either government or privately owned) from discriminating against other people based on race, gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, etc. I don't want you to think i'm misinforming you, so again, I invite you to read it for yourself. I think it's an interesting piece of legislation that has provided real benefits to this country. You may disagree. Again, that's OK.

I agree with you about this video, it was just made to be personally insulting. I appreciate the fact that our discussion was above personal insults. In the end, my position is this. Allowing private business men to do whatever they want with their property isn't a good thing when they use their property ownership to hurt other people. If one person owns the only grocery store in town, he can make you drive to the next town to get groceries because you aren't the right color. That bothers me.

He would put a distinction between business property and personal private property.
It is racist to not allow people to work for you because of their race, and he wouldn't allow it. But on a personal level, if someone doesn't want someone in their house for whatever reason, they are free to do so.

This all comes from Ron Paul's speech before Congress on July 3, 2004. He made the speech in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. (7/3/04). The Civil Rights Act diminished individual liberty...OH YEAH!! Like the liberty of white business owners refusing jobs and/or service to minorities based on their race. Did you ever see a video of a lunch counter protest in the early 60's? Do you know why people organized lunch counter protests? I agree with you about this video, it was just made to be personally insulting. I appreciate the fact that our discussion was above personal insults. In the end, my position is this. Allowing private business men to do whatever they want with their property isn't a good thing when they use their property ownership to hurt other people. If one person owns the only grocery store in town, he can make you drive to the next town to get groceries because you aren't the right color. That bothers me.

It is racist to not allow people to work for you because of their race, and he wouldn't allow it. But on a personal level, if someone doesn't want someone in their house for whatever reason, they are free to do so.
It doesn't infringe a businesses personal liberty when they arent allowed to refuse people because of race, because a business is not one person....

I do see what you mean. But again, Ron Paul's criticism of the civil rights act was that it impinged on personal liberty of property owners. The Civil Rights Act (which you should read, it's interesting) doesn't apply to private homes. It does apply to private businesses.
I agree that you have the right to keep anyone out of your home for any reason, including race. Anyone who says differently is a whacko (and name-calling is definitely justified on that point).

If you think all the prohibitions in the act are wrong, then you should support repealing the act, like Ron Paul does. However, if you think the prohibitions in the act are valid, you disagree with Ron Paul on this issue. You can still support him. You don't have to agree with him on everything.

This all comes from Ron Paul's speech before Congress on July 3, 2004. He made the speech in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The act made it illegal for private property owners (businessmen) to refuse service/employment to minorities based on race. When Paul said "The rights of all private property owners, even those whose actions decent people find abhorrent," he's referring to people who racially discriminate and deny services or employment based on race.
