  • I'm an aspie, and have auditory processing disorder, it ssuuuuucks !

  • Thank you for making this video. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I live in a very rural area where doctors are not up on the latest and I can not seem to find a doctor here to understand or help me. I am terrified of noise and I don't understand most of what is said to me. I do go along with everything but people get very offended when I get something wrong. I am even worse on the phone. But you have said it all. Thank you.

  • "Profound revealation #349,682"....LOL!

    Totally get that.

  • "Profound revealation #349,682"....LOL!

  • Lets petition to allow shades at all times for ASD folks. Either they let us wear shades or the NT's have to go naked!

  • I'm undiagnosed but I think I may have aspergers as I can relate to most of this. Sometimes when I have a lot of anxiety, sounds seem excruciatingly loud and other times it's perfectly fine. When this happens it's like I'm being pummeled and it's like I'm on guard trying to dodge it, I don't know how else to describe it but I hope it makes sense. Have you experienced anything like that? Thanks.

  • @0pnMnded Yes yes and yes. Google auditory processing disorder and go from there. You are NOT alone.

  • how come they don't have anything for adults with auditory processing or studies on adults with it. This is fairly new study

  • Thanks for uploading this very articulate video monologue.

  • Mia, thank you for posting this. Funny, my maiden name is also Sansom. It's not a common name. My 17 year old son has CAPD; diagnosed when he was 4. He has always struggled w/reading comprehension, following directions, and selective listening. Has the vocabulary of a 10 year old. At least he can draw, so can go to art school and potentially have a career there. But as it stands, I can't even see an employer taking him on. It's been very hard on us all.

  • me too i have A DP MY MY SLEF I EUS SIGN LAGNAUGE FOR MY SLEF

  • You should get tested then. I have it and had to get tested for it =/

  • I understand exactly what you are talking about.I have the same problem. What I hate is when fire alarms go off in public buildings. That is the worst.

  • love the shades! dont you wish you could where em all the time?

  • @morpheus1x I wear shades almost all the time when outside the house. I have lighter and darker ones for different weather. I actually have taken to collecting sunglasses now because of this.

  • i dont know if this is the same thing but often i think my mom and dad say certain things they they didnt say and they often tell me i mis hear things. so i dont know if thats the same thing since i am aspie and all

  • sounds like it, kinda a misfire understanding the NT's because were thinking in a different way. happens to me all the time. i get 4 or 5 ideas in my head from stimuli and have to sift through them and filter them according to what the NT's expect as a relevent response and do it within a fraction of a second. they have no clue what we go through.

  • Thanks for sharing your experiences dealing with CAPD. I have a son with CAPD and it is very difficult for him to deal with the disorder. He is very afraid of loud noises and will panic when there is something loud nearby. He even hates the bathroom fan and won't turn it on when he takes a shower because he says it bothers him. He loves music, but doesn't understand the words at all. He has problems with phonics and remembering (his memory is terrible). May I ask how you cope?

  • It was actually kinda hard hearing / focusing on what you were saying because of the piano music and there is a high pitch buzz? which I think comes from the camera. So if I focused hard on what you were saying or turn up the volume the other noises just got louder / frustrating and staying focused on your words was still just as hard. Which I guess makes for a bit of an ironic? comment!

    :)

  • Hi Mia. Thank you for your post here. I am finding out alot more everyday about this learning problem. My son is 8, and was just diagnosed with this, APD. There are alot of programs out there for help. If you have the desire, your Doctor can recommend these programs, or send you to a specialist. You are not alone, this is very common now, and there is support. Thank you for expressing yourself so honestly. Hopefully, your life will change now that you know. Support is important too. Good Luck.

  • thanks mia for this post, I dont remember most movies I watch either, cant follow moms 1001 steps to prep for dinner in my native language (I prefer English), dont like club background noise noise noise, yeah.. i am not exactly terrified by noises but just dont like or care for it... thanks for the reminder, but I think it sucks to think about this auditory problem even though I dont have a hearing problem... why cant that corpus collosum just connect the two hemispheres properly??!! 33F

  • are you sure you liking text chat is related to aspergers, then it is more related to shyness?
