The only people who talk shit about Sony subs are the ones who don't know shit about tuning and proper installation. All the Sony subs I've installed (either for myself before I discovered MTX or for friends) have sounded excellent. The problem with Sonys are the buyers. Sonys can handle their RMS power just fine, but people buy them because they don't have much money, so they'll buy a 200Wrms amp, crank the gain, and clip the shit out of it then it sounds like shit. So fuck the idiot haters.
