  • Sharp!

  • Hello Paul,

Which software did you use to design it?

  • what softwere do u use?

  • Hi Paul. I like the globe but I think its backdrop could be more distinct to emphasize that it's either hollow or made of glass. However, my main reason for posting is to suggest you don't bite when people make stupid negative comments. Your artistry and creativity make it clear that you're miles ahead of them intellectually - if I were you I'd just rise above their nastiness with a contemptuous smirk. Hope to see some more of your work soon! All the best.

  • Thank you Studboydave, I see exactly where you're coming from about the hater comments (see my "haters" video for more of my thoughts on the subject) but I enjoy the "debate". I know they're attempting to hurt my feelings or make me angry but I just find it amusing. As for the improvements that you suggested for the globe, it was supposed to be a modernised replication of the BBC's original C.O.W. (see description for details).

  • On second thought, I've just watched it again on a different monitor from the one I was using when I created it and I think you're right about making the backdrop more distinct. I've no intention of remaking it because the chap who asked me to produce it is more than happy with the result.

  • "your watching BBC 1. now its time for WOGAN"

  • :o)

  • Lol certainly told her. Totally agree. Don't u just hate people like that? Anyway nice video.

  • Thanks for the comment 1218174, I don't hate it when people demonstrate how hateful they are; I find it amusing.

  • for your information im a girl....and im not little im a BIG gurl and im hangin out with my BIG BOY guy friends and my BIG BOY boyfriend so i suggest yu get ur information straight...okaii??and i dont have a pic on my dp thigie..now just shut up...nerd

  • I do apologise miss BIG girl, I thought you were going out to play but you're still sitting here at the computer which you hate doing. You really shouldn't punish yourself like that. Some free advice, which you won't take - when people make comments like yours, it says a lot more about themselves than anyone else. This is why I don't delete and block. If you really want to show everybody exactly what kind of person you are, I've no reason to stop you.

  • Told!

  • Well said!

  • uhh yeah how much yu wanna bet yur like fatt..enjoying this crap is so dumb all yu see is a freiken earth picc....movingg....i don t wanna waste my time on da comp..im gonna go get a life now and play outsidee

  • You can see my photo on my profile, unlike yours, so if you think I'm fat then you really should get some glasses. Now you go play outside like a good little boy but be careful what you say to the big kids, they might not like it.

  • Smart Ass .. Get A Life, Go To A Bar Once In a While And Get Drunk ..Get Married..Get Children..BUT CERTAINLY DON SIT ON YOU R ASS WORKIN ON COMP. SHITT

  • I've done all of those things.

I enjoy sitting on my arse working on computer shit - do you think there's something wrong with doing things you enjoy?

  • what the hell is this peace of shit this is nothing to do with eastenders

  • Did I say it was? My friend's website is called "Eastenders Worldwide" and if you read the description properly, you'd see that he asked for an updated version of the logo that the BBC used from 1985 to 1991. If you'd bothered listening when you were at school you'd know that this isn't a "peace of shit", it's a "piece of shit" :p.

  • im still at skool im 16

  • I guess it's not your fault that the education systems have deteriorated so much. I was taught the difference between "peace" and "piece" at around the age of 11 and I was younger than that when I was taught when I should and shouldn't use an apostrophe.

  • Ahahahahaha

    Piece:)

  • 1.5 Gigs? Jesus Christ!

  • That's 'cause it was uncompressed - each pixel is 24bits (i.e. 3 bytes) so each frame is 1024x1024x3 bytes (3.00MB) and one revolution is 12 seconds (the same as the original) at 30fps, making the whole file 12x30x3MB (1.05GB), so I made a mistake in stating it was 1.5GB, it was 1.05GB.

  • If the BBC want to do a "History show", send it to BBC|HD

  • Computer Originated World (C.O.W.)

  • Correct.

  • Cool, that's so much more 'hip' than the BBC one :)

  • Thank you, when the BBC did theirs, the technology wasn't quite so advanced as it is now.

  • lol I guess .. and Remember the "Thames" one? With the mirror effect? hehe thinking back, That was such a cool effect to put together in it's day!

  • There's not much to understand, Taylor, this is just something | was asked to create and I uploaded it to YouTube because I was pleased with the result.

If you read my comments in the "About This Video" section, I think it explains it in more detail.

  • You should be pleased with the result:) How long have you been doing animations? Are you a professional?

  • Thanks, I am pleased with the result. I'm not a professional animator, but I do have some pretty good software which made it a relatively easy job to create.

  • I'm sorry, but I don't understand :(

  • How the heck did you do that? :|

  • I downloaded a hi-res sattelite image of planet earth, changed it to monochrome and adjusted the RGB levels to make the golden colour. I then used the Cycore sphere plugin with Adobe After Effects to create the globe with three layers - one for the sea, the second for the back of the land (another level adjustment here) and finally one for the top of the land. Hope that answers your question Ash :D.

  • star :)

  • Jumping up and down with absolute glee. Not been as delighted since I saw a piece of military aviation hardware modified to use a shop bought battery..

Outstanding work Paul, and thank you :)

  • I sent the hi-res version via transferbigfiles.com - check your email address with the 45 in it.

  • Ok Paul, exactly what is this all about?

  • I thought I explained that in the description of the video, Mike. I was asked to create this for Eastenders World Wide, and this is a low-res demo of the result.

  • oh yeah. sorry. I forgot to click on the "more"

  • Yours still looks better than the bbc one. The original looks like the land mass is just flat and shaded, at least yours has the er... terrain, topology? thingy. and looks accurate, or realistic. Is that bump mapping or actual polygons?

So even with loss of detail, looks sweet.

  • First of all, mine has more detail because in 1985 the technology available was extremely limited compared to today, in fact the BBC had a purpose built machine used exclusively to generate the graphics. The "terrain" is neither bump-mapping or polygons, it is simple shading reproduced from high resolution sattelite images.

  • I did not realise it was made in 1985, thought it was current for some reason.

How easily my eyes are fooled. It looks like there is height on the terrain from watching the edges of the globe. Probably tired eyes enhanced by imagination and artifacting. ;)
