  • Oh my goodness so sorry I missed this video response! YouTube has been awful at letting me know when I have them and I'm not always on top of them.

As for the content, just... that officietel looks AMAZING. I am *so* jealous. I am possibly moving to one that looks a lot like that, of course... my hagwon has been unclear as to whether and when it may actually happen. I'm content with what I have though :)

  • @fizzylimon No worries. Yeah, we really love our place. Hope we can stay another year. Should know more in a month or so, but I'm starting the process of looking already, just in case!

  • when getting a place in Korea (through your program or recruiter) could you request an officetel instead of an apartment? and how about going with someone else? i know there are special things for married couples but do you know if there is anything for just friends who want to go together? btw i love you place! it's beautiful!

  • Hi, again. Since you asked, my present home is nothing particularly tricked-out or special in any way, but I recall living in an apt. back in the '80s that featured a really cool little storage room attached to my walk-in bedroom closet. I didn't need to store anything, so I took to using it as my private "me-time" space. (Teens, like I was at the time, sometimes need to get away from the 'rents'. Know what I mean?) Btw, was that some kind of motion-activated light in your entryway?

  • The reason I ask is I saw it flicker off for a second when you moved your arm.

  • @UniteIreland07 Yes, most homes have a motion sensor light where you take shoes off.

    Thanks for watching!

  • @qiranger My pleasure as always, Steve. And thanks for the prompt reply. Slan go foill! (Irish Gaelic: "Bye, for now!" - pron: SLAHN-GUH-FAWL)

  • The washing machine Hauzen is Samsung's washing machine's sub brand name, and also the name PAVV Flat TV is its sub brand.

Another brand name of washing machine TROMM is LG's model. also its flat TV sub brand name is X--Canvas.

If you got some troubles of them, call each companies Call-Center then the Center will take your demands though you speak in English. Maybe foreigners got be unfamiliar with those sub brand names. :-)

  • And that's why when I'm old enough to move out, I'm going straight to Korea

  • Great Video. I love how much vertical space there is. I'll be moving to Dongtan in about 2 weeks. Any tips for cheap accommodation? Any Goshiwons or cheap Apts in Dongtan Hwaseong? Much appreciated if anyone can help me

  • @EzeWong Not sure if there is anything cheap in Dongtan. This is one pricy area!

  • my bathroom is my favorite part of my place :) Your place is really nice and I just realized how freaking TALL you are !

  • @TravelingNatural Like a freak of NATURE!!! lol

Glad you enjoyed this one! Yes, your bathroom is quite nice!

  • I think the feature I like best about my home is a large patio and large fenced back yard. I love to grow a vegetable garden and spend a lot of time outdoors. what a lovely offictel you have! You must be very comfortable there,,, Merry Christmas to you both, and a very happy new year! ♥

  • @LadySilverWolfe Thanks!!!!! I would love a small little place to grow some herbs. Oh well, maybe in the next place!

  • @qiranger you could always grow a small potted herb garden indoors, in a sunny spot by a window ..

  • Omomo His is so nice~! *A*

  • @liltetsuni Thank you very much!

  • Your new place looks fantastic! Thank you so much for the tour! :)

  • @phampants Thanks! We really love it!

  • @qiranger Hello, i will be relocating to seoul next month, do you have any website you can recommend for appartment hunting? I am looking for an officetel with loft, simmilar to yours. Your new place is amazing!

  • @elgabrielillo Congrats on moving into Seoul! I can't really recommend any website, since I've never looked for an apartment in Seoul. Using Google, I see many, but I've never used any of them. What area of Seoul are you trying to move into?

  • I don't understand why people need huge bedrooms, it's only used for sleeping anyways and I would sacrifice for bigger living room if I had to.

  • @drsnowmon I think that people like to have larger bedrooms is so they can have all their clothes, a television, and space to walk around when getting dressed.

  • What I like the most about my "previous" flat is that it had double-glazing windows. I live in a city centre and it can be very noisy even at night.

  • @MrPrivity I bet that would be an asset! Thanks for watching!

  • Hey Steve, in regards to the death of Kim Jung Ill, what is the vibe in South Korea, are the people happy or nervous and on edge because there is uncertainty regarding the state of North Korea & what will actually happen now?

Please do a video response if you can regarding the whole situation & how it affects Sth Korea etc.

I'd appreciate it as I think will a lot of other people who would be curious about the impending situation.

Thank you mate & all the best.

    Regards from Melbourne, Australia.

  • Geez, you being the tall guy that you are, do you ever bump your head on the roof when going to bed or even waking up in the middle of the night?!!!!

When going back home to the US, do you crouch when going into rooms purely out of habit? LoL!

Also, it must be a real treat going home to such "large" and luxurious rooms and space compared to South Korea!

  • @miles2057 Sometimes I bump my head, but that's just because I forget to duck. I've only done it once in the 2 years we've had loft apartments.

As for large places... this is a small place. We have friends with much larger units in different areas of the town.

  • Nice video with a great intro! You really got a comfortable house! My favorite feature is the loft, i got one that i use to sleep and is just so useful!

  • @2eltran Thanks!!!! Yeah, we really like sleeping upstairs and glad that you do as well.

  • I had a friend that had a place like that in Bundang, it was very nice. I remember all of the other hagwon teachers surprise on the fact that he had a couch--an actual couch. LOL

  • @darknight7884 Yes, that does make a huge difference. Got to love couches!

  • 항상 재미있게 보고있어요 :D

    추운겨울 감기 조심하세요~

  • @Taeminkang 감사합니다!

  • Thanks!!! I really enjoy your vids a lot!! ^^

  • @MANNY100123 Thank you for watching!

  • I really enjoy watching your channel

  • @yadilyna Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

  • That shower head looks a wee bit too low for you dude. Made me think of Lost In Translation. BTW, never heard of an officetel so what is the difference between a regular apartment?

  • @perdomot nah, it's about right! The officetels are usually one-room studios with space saving devices in a highrise. Apartments are usually a bit larger and have a proper kitchen!

  • Do you speak Korean fluently? :)

How long have you been there?

Ahh~ I have two more years before I can leave! I'm so excited.

  • @steveePWNSn00bs I've been here about 3 years and I speak only a little Korean.

  • looks amazing steve. I gotta love the loft or even the kitchen, I just love to cook and the kitchen looks very spacious, as well as the space management the loft creates this great barrier for privacy and I could keep anything no one needs to see up there lol

  • Oh thats right, would have to be logged into that account...its here

    watch?v=3icpAHC8Riw

  • Powerful space saving device? Is it a tardus? LOL...nice digs mate, I like the high ceiling : )

Havn't made a vid of our new house, but I have a vid of our last house on our secret channel. I'll respond with that...have a great weekend : )

  • @MicknFumi LOL I would love to have an OfficeTel TARDIS!!! Great place you have there! Love it!

  • @MicknFumi Oh yeah Mick knows about the Doctor! Its spelled Tardis though mate. LOL. I'm a fan of the 4th Dr, Tom Baker myself.

  • @perdomot My bad...yep Tom Baker was definitely the best Dr : )

  • loll my place we have 3 bedrooms a huge living room, a tiny kitchen, huge basement, 1.5 bath, laundry room ( got new laundry machines that can steam and sanitize) and 2 extra storage room and oh ya a built in Sauna xD but I live in Canada so... its a lil more spacious

  • @vinhanh Awesome! I would love a sauna!

  • It looks so pretty! I really like the two 'floors' and the view <3 The only thing i wouldn't want to have is the kitchen in the living room since i don't like it if the whole apartment smells like food ^^ great video! btw i love our dishwasher! ^^

  • @Sumsel Thanks! My older places were true studios!!!! No extra room at all!

  • the upstairs That's soo cool... nothing to really like in my house. its just a house

  • @GoldfishLight We have one of the few loft apartments in the city. We love it though. What's special about your place?

  • I must say I like your shelves in the kitchen(and your whole kitchen). Love the color! Well, I'd say I like the bathroom in the place I'm living in right now, because it looks like one of those bathrooms in high-class hotels. It's all shiny and sparkles. BUT I must say I like this big old table that I have all my books and papers and computer on in the room I'm renting as well. Very nice, it's almost like the one you guys have, though it's only a little shorter and a little wider. And very old xD

  • @Lottiii13 That does sound like a fantastic place you have there! I love big tables!

  • Nice place Steve...

  • @Laura17T Thank you so much!

  • Since, I'm short, I enjoy the average ceiling in my apt, which seems really tall to me, hahahaha

  • @Theresnosuchthing08 LOL - how short are you?

  • @qiranger 5ft...

  • do you still work as a teacher or are you doing this full time now?

  • @kouznetsov I still teach! About to finish the semester and go on vacation!

  • Ughhh soooo jealous!!

  • @cgkitti Don't be. We do have to pay for this one.

  • @qiranger I pay for mine too!!

  • That looks great! My favourite part of my room is a wall long desk which fits my imac, another computer and a 40" TV and xbox in the middle.

  • @AleksandrsLV That is the total entertainment package! Awesome! Thanks for watching!

  • That must be so expensive! Do you mind telling me?

  • @Myumeful Not too bad. Rent here is W5,000,000 deposit and W500,000 on up depending on the officetel and room size.

  • @qiranger You must be rich then xd

  • Wow, looks very spacious! For my apartment, I appreciate the large kitchen the most. I used to live in a very small space that could not fit more than one person in the kitchen at a time and it was a pain! I really appreciate my 10x10 now. :)

  • @autumnyaar ;-) I bet, I do like small places after having a huge space for so long. Don't forget to respond to my message on youtube so I can ship out your Rosetta Stone. Congratulations on winning!

  • "GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS!" makes me smile EVERY TIME. Thanks for the video Steve!

  • @iloveredbull09 Thank you for watching!

  • your home is so cute and modern and just the right size...Someday I want to live in a tiny house with a wood stove and solar panels for power...I have to say my favorite place in my home is in my bed room...It is quite big and I have my desk in there and my tv...So When the kids are being kids I have my hid away...hehe

  • @DawndeeDALLAS Oh yeah and thanks so much for showing your home...

  • Wat. I knew I shouldn't have watched this.

My entire apartment is less size than your "living room" area. Pretty damn sweet digs!

  • @CrimsonNorth Thanks. It's expensive, but what we need for two people.

  • I love watching video tours of apartments in Korea. I'll be moving to Korea next month, and I will probably make a video tour of my new Korean apartment, too! :)

  • @redley71 Sweetness. Where in Korea are you moving?

  • @qiranger I'm moving to Songpa-gu, Seoul. I'm a good deal older than the average foreign teacher, but I'm just as giddy as a 20-something moving to Korea for the first time! Thanks for your videos!

  • Uch, jealousy. Your apt is frickin' huge! I like the office especially & shower head! Recently I bought an IKEA armchair which, after much frustration and bad language using whilst assembling, has become my favourite thing in my apartment!

  • @MParquee I used to have one of those in the US. Loved it. I can't wait until IKEA opens here!

  • i love the small 2nd floor. it seems so comfy!!

  • @boxb333 It is! So much fun to sleep up there!

  • Your place is amazing! I love the huge window in the great room and the loft.

  • @ally187 Thanks so much! What do you love about yours?

  • @qiranger That it doesn't have centipedes. My last apartment had rather large centipedes. I loved it so much but no matter what I did they would not go away, so I had to move.

  • @qiranger Also I was reading some of the comments and was suprised that your rent is actually less than mine a month. Your deposit was much greater but converting the rent to usd it's about $65 less than mine. Amazing!

  • That was one nice place you got there Steve. I am a fan of places where you do not have so much unwanted space, it should be small and well planed just like your place.

I like that my building is from 1900 and is the most cultural area right in the middle of my city. For the apartment it is a ok one, some weird planed areas hard to use. I like my computer area the most, second to the bed :)

  • @MageThief I would love an old place like that! Sounds great and full of fantastic stories!

Yes, everything here is compact and well used. Makes cleaning easy!

  • puhahahahahaha those Korean realtors should hire you for their Ads. Yours look really good~! my most fav thing about an officetel in Korea is the property tax that is barely 1/10 of my house in CA.

  • @fennie2578 So true... Love the lower tax rate!

  • halfway through I felt like he was a real estate agent selling me the officetel. I WANT IT!

other this-is-my-korean-apartment posts ain't got nothin' on qiranger.

  • @sweetkaiser Thanks! I really dig our digs!

  • I can't believe you made an apartment video! I had just come to accept the mystery.

  • @p00lman LOL - You have no idea how many requests I get to do this video.

  • The Porch. I take it that your clothes are in the cabinets. Do you even fit under the shower head?

  • @TubaBuddha I sure do!!!!! Yeah, clothes in the cupboards.

  • Wow! That's a pretty awesome officetel!

  • @GrantJacobs4 Thanks! We really enjoy it! What about your place?

  • We won't be in South Korea for another month.....but I'll be sure to make a video to show everyone. I won't be able to do the "loft"....we have a 2 year old son who would just love to jump off and see if he could fly! yikes! :)

  • @WingsinSouthKorea LOL - That would be a scary thing for sure! Where will you be living?

  • @qiranger My husband will be working in Ulsan. We are hoping to find a place there! He has a small place now, but he has some appointments to look at some bigger places for us to move in to...we have the 2 yr old son and a 6 yr old son.

Thank you for your videos! They have been so helpful for me to prepare for what to expect. :)

  • Super Phat Sick-Wicked Digs!

  • @4q2pab Thanks my friend! How is Mr. Kim?

  • @qiranger Mr. Kim is fluffy

  • Love your OfficeTel and the red kitchen cabinets. The loft would work for me if I wasn't just a little claustrophobic. My favorite room is my bedroom I can sit in bed and watch the moon in it's phases. It's so bright and large from my window I just watch it revolve and set.

  • @JamConcerned Would love to have that view - Jo and I love watching the moon. We used to have some great views before the officetel next door arrived.. but no worries, we still get some great sights out of the window.

  • Nice place!! Must have a pretty nice view from that window? Are the rent expensive in Korea?

I live in a 17 square meter room... they call it an mansion over here... rent is crazy in Tokyo.

  • @BlackCatBCB Rent varies depending on where you live. We live in an expensive area.

Your place is 17sqm? As in 182sqft?

  • @qiranger Yes lol, I had to look it up. ^^; 17m² = 182ft². And Believe me it's not cheap...

  • I would knock myself out trying to get to bed nice place though I wish I could fit as much in such a small place.

  • @bearchay889 We really like having a smaller place. So easy to keep clean!

  • Wow, this is awesome! You have a really great officetel! One of the nicest I've seen! :) Thanks for showing us!!

  • @xxcobainlover Thanks! We really love it!

  • Great new place! I love the shot of your computer desk. It's cool to see where all the magic happens. Thanks for sharing!

  • @GreenEggsAndHamster Thanks for watching my friend! I really appreciate it! How's your new home?

  • A friend once told me long ago that in Korea, people pay rent once a year for the entire year. Is that true?

  • @japundit That is an option. There are three common ways to secure a place to live. 1) buy it outright. 2) Pay the key money. This is a very large deposit, in which the interest earned each month covers the rent for a year. This is growing less and less common as the amounts for a common apartment are increasing to close to million US in Seoul. 3) pay a large deposit and monthly rent. The deposit for a small studio is about $5-10,000US and $500/mo+.

  • the best feature of my appartment asside from the location who is to die for ( right next to the frontenac castle in quebec city) i think its the huge windoes who let in tons of light.. that and the snowy owls who hang around the roof half of the year

  • @TeaIicious I also love huge windows. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • haha! @0:52 the"SUSCRIBE" pillow that Phampants sent you :P

  • @daewooparts Yup!

  • i miss my officetel i had in seoul back in the late 90's -early 2000's

  • @daewooparts Where was it? What part of Seoul?

  • @qiranger, well, there is a stove and fridge, nothing spectacular about them and they hardly work, I sleep on a couch (though I do prefer them to beds), I don't used microwaves when I can, the AC is terrible, and the lights go out for no reason sometimes. I spend most my time on my laptop (though I guess since I can take it with me anywhere it's more my home than the building) and outside. Though I'm not supposed to like this home, it's just a between time.

  • HEY XD ! omg love your officetel :3 and btw where is it located ? how much (per month or whatever) , what is the name of the "building" ..hihi^^pls answer :)

  • @melinaghXD This is a common officetel. Deposits are usually 5,000,000원 and up with rent starting at 500,000원 per month and going higher.

  • Nice place. How are the neighbours?

  • @Gell1welt69 Don't really see them. Everyone is very quiet!

  • Wow Steve, this is really a fantastic apartment! The most unique thing in my apartment is probably my large bed or my super comfortable couch ;)

  • @chrismecking Awesome! We love our little foam pad as well. Thanks for watching and sharing!

  • Officetel? is this an apartment you live in or a work place???

  • @Drewandy22 Well we live here and this is where I write and edit! They are designed for space efficiency.

  • I love Officetels so much. They are so adorable and the loft is my absolute favorite!

  • @Karaisoke Sweet! Thanks for watching and sharing!

  • O_O your home is so neat.

  • @hijabeeinkorea Thanks! We cleaned it... ;-)

  • I'll give you a thumbs up for the monkey at 1:33... and a +1 for the rest of the video. I don't know much about Korean standards, but that officetel definitely is spacious enough and it looks very nice.

  • @MGSGeneral Thanks, my friend! This is a pretty large apartment. The largest in our building. We really dig it!

  • That place is amazing. I'd love to have one. I don't have a favorite thing about my place, in fact I don't really care for it at all.

  • @immadametal So sad! Nothing about it? A couch, a stove, microwave? Anything? We really lucked out!

  • Is your place big in Korean standards? That great room is very spacious and I like the high ceiling.

  • @MrJingjong officete is generally the same size as a small apartment. typically koreans with 2+ kids prefer to live in a bigger area.

  • @MrJingjong It's an average size for a couple with no kids. about 1000 sqft. Families usually have much more space. In our building, this is the largest unit. The place we lived in last year was half the size. That's a normal officetel.

  • Nice looking officetell. :O I like the bathroom the most.. ;~; dat shower

  • @Kimbup Thanks! Love it!

  • Your apt is spotless! I have to do years of cleaning before I can share... ha ha:)

  • @LaJYankee We like it clean! Helps that we have no children and we're both neat freaks when it comes to our personal living space... when we travel... that's another story.
