I love these songs and alas this lifetime I am a white man and wouldnt be able to dance in the Sundance.I pray one day we will be welcome as dancers but I respect the decision not to let wasichus dance. The fact that I am in Australia is another reason! We treat our native peoples as badly.I know that the dancers suffer for all and think about them every june and July.
I danced at Pilot Rock Oregon for ten years...its been four years...I hear the songs...calling me back...I see my Elders faces...my Sundance brothers and sisters faces...I hear the children laughing...I feel all their tears...it is time to travel...to my beloved Sundance and our relatives supporting there...
Thank u 4 posting this, after 15 yrs dancing, I got disabled n only returned this past summer to Rosebud, by the White River. it is so nice 2 remember all the prayers, all the magic. a singer once told me about the songs, the vibratory levels, etc. n the next yr, sure enough @Crow Dog's Paradise (i took a break that yr from dancing) i witnessed the power go from the drum to the tree n 2 the dancers. pilamaya, wopila my nephews, thanx 4 bringing back those memories, makes an Elder feel real good.
its been too many years... back to GG this summer. The children need our payers soooo much! We thought we had it bad growing up, but what the children face today scares me, and I never feared anything!
My Friend Ira Gemmill who was a sundancer Passed away yesterday in Big bend California
My best Memories of him Was Helping him Gather Herbs for his Prayer ties for Sundance ...I was Honored to have him as a Friend and Brother he will b missed..
great video.. listening to these guys and getting ready to dance thursday. i really appreciate the work the singers do and the energy they bring to the dance... thank you thank you thank you !
keep it up boys 8 yr sundance and 5 yr song leader. brings a tear to my eyes to hear this song with the sun riseing over the plains and the head man holding up the skull with all his family behind him. HOKA!
My family have come to know these songs in the hills of Alberta not far from the mountains. The majestic rockies...for 4 years we have been supporting the sundance. We as well have been missing out on so much the red path is ours for the taking - tobacco is there to ask for the teachings that leave with the old ones. Hai! Hai! keep them coming we all pray to same creator cree, blackfoot & our creefoots
I have always wanted to do a Sundance but never had the opportunity. I am not Lakota but my Grandmother was Chactaw, so I still claim the old blood of this nation. Her mother was on the Trail of Tears. I shed tears with her. Aho.
I went though Sundance when we had to do it hidden because it was illegal. I am happy that the law finally decided we could practice our religion in a country supposedly founded for religious freedom.
In the Montana Sherriff’s defense, He simply said he wouldn’t arrest anyone for practicing any religion.
I would be happy to hear of any upcoming Sundance.
Didnt think i would actually find sundance songs on here. Jus gave it a shot cuz i could never find my dads cds or work his tapes. My dad runs a sundance in Oregon so i been around it all my life so when i hear these songs my feet start movin:)
wow...brings tears to my eyez. reminds me of all the early morningz walking out into the sacred circle! ahh...goin on my 12th yr...such a beautiful blessing..the singerz make it happen! wopila heca to the singers n their strong voicez that keep us dancerz energized... spent all morning listening to all these videoz gettin ready for the dance.....keep em coming! ima fan for sure :)
i really enjoyed this, thank you for sharing!! i spent some time in montana and met some lakota, very interesting culture, very unique and beautiful people:)
