  • All your playing is so beautiful. How did you learn to move your fingers so quickly... did you practice a lot of scales and exercises?

  • @VIcekKamil hey! No hatin man! She's really good and I bet u didn't play as well as she did when you were young, and If you didn't like her interpretation, then be more nicer. It's called being a gentleman.

  • I find it's funny how her posture changes depending on how loud she's playing.

  • I am afraid, that your understanding Bach is totally bad.

You play Well-tempered Clavier, like it was written by Liszt.

You play in terrible tempo, rubato and in romantic style.

Bach is not Liszt and WTC is not etude.

I always say, that children should not play Bach!!!

  • This is amazing, simply amazing. Sorry I'm at a loss for words, it doesn't happen often... Umi, you are definitely a favorite interpreter of mine.

  • When one's favourite composer (J S Bach) is played by one's favourite young pianist (Miss Umi Garrett), it's a rare treat indeed. Brilliant execution and delightful interpretation.

  • haha good jokes..; Now let's playing bach... ;o)

  • @lePistolero

I'm sorry I didn't make you happy, but to me, Bach is very spiritual.

I am guessing you want Bach to be played more mechanicaly with less emotion, but I think that it should be played with more emotion, spirituality, and dynamics. Bach was very spiritual so this was my interpitation.

    Thank you for your thoughts.

    Are you a musician?

    Love,

    Umi (=^x^=)

  • @UMIPIANO Well i should'nt be sarcastic and in fact i was very impressed by your gnomenreigen Liszt performance, i really felt the music, i have a smile on my face at the end.

here listening your prelude i say, wow why did she play that at that speed! It's like a guiness wrold record, "yeah look at me i'm very young and i play very very fast!" Like if you were a circus phenomenon, but 'you're not. You're a really good pianist i think.

  • WOW! I have never heard it played that fast and I loved it. Apparently it made the judges sit up and take notice. Congratulations.

  • @58pianos

    Hi Uncle Jack!

Yes, it was pretty fast! :D

Thank you for the magic cards!!!!

    I loved them!

    Love,

    Umi

  • Congratulations dear pretty Umi. Tho' I'm not surprised the judges all loved you and gave you what you deserved.

Truly looking fwd to a clip or two from your Italy trip and performance

    Lots of love

    Lalita

  • @Lalitamusic

    Dear Lalita,

    Thank you so much!!

Going to Italy will be very very fun.

I will take video of my performance and maybe pics along the way!!!!

    Love,

    Umi

  • VERY GOOD! Do you study fugue structure? The difference between episodes/middle entries were very clear to me. Maybe it's just because I'm doing counterpoint right now - but you are VERY good at interpreting this music :)

  • @ChrisRMaldonado

I am so happy you liked my interpretation. :)

    Thank you so much.

    Love,

    Umi

  • Amazing :) ♥♥ ***** ♪♫♫♪

  • @bjoartec

    Thank you!

    I love those music notes!! ♪♫♫♪ :D

    Love,

    Umi

  • VERY GOOD, UMI! (I haven't even heard it, haha! I already knew it was going to be good! What else could I expect from you?)

  • @EmilyBearfan

Thank you! I hope you liked it after you heard it! xD

    Love,

    Umi (=^x^=)

  • Unbelievable how fast someone can play this without breaking the piano in thousands of splits.

  • I dont know the music sheet for this piece. Id like to ask, is the begin suppose to be that fast ?

  • Oh, Umi...the prelude: that was very agressive! Don't put much accent on the first note of each sixteenths groups! In my opinion you played it too fast. About the fugue: YOU DID A GREAT JOB!!!

Check out these wonderful renditions, I'll be glad to know you can learn from them:

  • @edtskyline Names of the videos if links don't work :

Sviatoslav Richter plays The Well-Tempered Clavier Book 1

Ashkenazy plays Bach WTC Book 1 Prelude and fugue no.2 in C minor BWV 847

Interesting comment I found: The Piece has no Tempo indication in the Manuscript at the beginning (which could be Allegro). Some 18th century copies by Bach's student have Adagio written at the Bass solo. After this section is a section marked Presto followed by another Adagio section, and finally an Allegro.

  • @edtskyline Well, I loved the preludfe and my goodness it made ME sit up! This girl has something very, very special, and I may be mistaken but she seems to have found it in the last year or so. So much of what Umi does now has me glued to the screen in a mix of delight and disbelief. Yes, I can think of only one other young pianist who does that -- and I know you know who that is!

Umi is at the top of her game, especially when she lets rip and takes delight in her own virtuosity.

  • Unfortunately the audio has a lot of echo, making individual notes difficult to hear. The microphone must have been at some distance from the piano when the recording was made.

  • @dratman Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what happened.

  • Really excellent performance, good to watch it again :)
