If Christianity is made up by man, then why wouldn't man make it easy to follow? Whats the point of setting the standard so high that no one can follow it? I struggle with turning the other cheek but its still required of me. Jesus raised the bar of the old testament, he said if you look at a woman and lust after her, you have committed adultery in your heart. why would man do that knowing how we are? I know this I am only going to heaven b/c of someone else, nothing I did except follow.
How is God homophobic? He created one man for one woman. why did you stop going to church? why not find a church that would feed you spiritually? This is me personally, I am not saying this is your case, but when ever I don't understand or "have a problem with God", I realize that it is me that is the problem I just didn't see it at first. I am not saying that is the case for you.
From what I read God is a fair judge, he says not to go into debt, but if you do pay it back. If I default on the loan and the only collateral I have is my service then why should He stop me from becoming a slave? Its fair. Believing in God is more than a get out of hell free card, its knowing our creator. Why should I believe in God just to save my skin? Besides I wouldn't want to face this life without the peace that passes understanding, b/c it is only going to get worse in america. IMO
my point is I am against slavery, but to say God was for it is wrong, He just knew how humans were and set up laws. For example slaves were to observe the sabbath, they couldn't work so they rested too, and obviously not all slaves were treated bad b/c some choose to stay under their master, they would get their ear pierced to show ownership. The great thing about God is we have free will. Thanks for going back and forth, its good to reason together even if we don't agree.
I know if my daughter or wife were in debt to someone and the note came do and their options was either pay the note, or if they didn't have the money then they would be come a servant or slave I would take their place, its only fair that the one who loaned the money gets paid, and if I became his slave and worked till the note was paid plus interest would you hold that against me or the one who I am a slave too?
I never said slavery wasn't in there, the first scripture example gives them freedom in the seventh year, the second example she was sold into marriage and they had strict laws to follow in her treatment or she was to be freed...Jesus never said it was ok to have a slave, but he used slavery as an example for his teachings b/c slavery was common practice back then.
Most people were slaves b/c they were in debt to someone, and they would become a slave, or sell one of their children for their debt. From what I have read I cannot tell where Jesus "ok' slavery, I have looked but if you know of a particular passage, then let me know. I have read where he uses slavery as a metaphor in teaching but not where he approved it. I know the apostles would title themselves as bond servants or "slaves" to Christ. Thanks for the input, sorry it took so long to reply
I never said you were immoral, I just said you don't want to be morally accountable to God. If we left morals up to humans then they would all be different, b/c one might say its morally acceptable to cheat on his wife, or steal. We have to have absolute truth and the only absolute truth is Jesus Christ. If I am wrong I have lived my life as a fool, if you are wrong..?.the greatest thing about God is He has given us free will, I found it personally easier to live doing it God's way and not mine
That is my point, just b/c they say they are christian doesn't mean they are, the Bible actually says Jesus will not accept those into heaven. Everyone who denies their is a God, just doesn't want to be morally accountable to Him.
Just b/c I tell you I am a millionaire doesn't mean I am one..if you look at my bank account then you can confirm it, the same goes for a christian if they don't hold to what the bible says then yes they are a hypocrite and a liar. The reality is that they are ignorant to what Jesus has taught or they are not a christian, you can not be in between. The biggest mistake people make is that they make christianity their religion and not their way of life.
First of all who cares what the world thinks of the south, yes I am from the south..no red neck jokes please LOL....what does science have to do with progressing society that was your original statement...nothing b/c all the technology in the world and yet people are still unhappy, never satisfied, always wanting more and yet society as a whole has slowly and continues on a decline...and you can't blame that on God b/c people have slowly pulled away from Him.
If someone were to follow what Jesus taught, now that would help society progress..the two greatest commandments is to love the Lord your God and Love your neighbor as yourself... Don't know when you are going to read this Happy Thanksgiving
Its only my job to share the gospel not prove it...yes I would like to see society progress, I just don't see how it can be done without God, knowing we will answer to God for our actions stops a lot of people from stealing or acting upon their selfish desires. Our true character is revealed when we are tempted to do wrong with little risk of adverse consequences.
