@kepko It was designed with the belief that engineering should take priority over looks. Not too small a price difference between this and a Koenigsegg by the way eh?
If I had the money I would easily go for this McLaren. The 458 is not really my thing, it's stylish but I mean compared to this, it's garbage. And I'm really hard to impress when it comes to look and I tell you this my fellow friends, I was blown away by this one. Interior and exterior is just superb!
@Foxx1981 I wasn't calling the 458 garbage. I said COMPARED TO THIS ONE in my own opinion it's garbage. It's like comparing shit to shit but the other shit is more valueble because it has a nicer look and feel to the other shit which makes the other shit a little bit shittier.
@odracirseraoseia1999 um yes, this car can go 0 - 200 kph in only 8.9 seconds. This means EXTREMELY GOOD aerodynamics and traction. It also has a system called brake steer - technology that was banned on mclarens 1997 f1 car by the fia. The inside of the front wheels have brakes in them that makes the nose point right into a corner. Scientifically alot of work went into this car,
@twinturbonissan300zx A wonderful tecnhological achievement, yes. But if you had the sort of money it takes to buy a car like this, you'd know that in the end it's not about mathematics; it's about passion. Very few with a couple of thousand euros to spend on a car will buy this over a Lambo or a Ferrari.
Guys, stop that silly argue. Both american and european cars are great in their own way. Sometimes EU car will outperform US car, sometimes US car will be better than EU car. Time when US were all about power and torque are gone. But if you really want to a car that is well crafted, relatively cheap, has some space inside and godlike performance, you probably would have to pick Nissan GT-R r35. Even guys from TOP GEAR agreed that it is best car u can get now. If you dont believe, check it on yt.
@jdrivas5 & @Zmaj747: You guys are arguing like 15 year old girls. Both America and Europe produce good cars. Most European cars are built better than American cars, and most handle better. But American cars like the CTS-V and Corvette ZR-1 outperform a lot of their European rivals and cost less. The Mustang on the other hand handles like shit because of it's live rear axle. It's just hit and miss for both European and US cars. Blindly defending one side or another just makes you look retarded
I have a lot of respect for Ron Dennis. He continued the work of Bruce McLaren and with a hugh succes. He never, ever changed the company's name to his own. But he has always honored the man who started it all and his name.
@03056932 lmaoo ur sad first of all it was my oponion u didnt have to comment on it and 2nd all people say it looks like 458 u utter and complete faggot ur self u dick head fucker u stupid british fucker if u dont like wat i said keep ur shity comment to ur self
@03056932 cheese dick is that wat u eat for breakfest u homo fuck .... and wen did u humiliate me ?? and like i said before if u cant tell that this mclaren looks like the ferrari u are blind and are u that stupid i dont live in the usa u idiot
@jdrivas5 That's all you Americans ever think about is tourque and power. Not performance and handeling. Face it, you're just talking out of your ass. You saw the video of how your american car gets demolished in a race (not to mention falls apart by itself due to the low quality). And let's put it in another perspective. When you think about cars and luxury you think Mercedes, Bently, Rolls Royce. When you look at who won the most races in team racing, Ferrari. You're just an uneducated hick.
@jdrivas5 And for more proof to your idiot claims, I have a video of the latest Corvett Zr1 against an Audi R8. Corvette ZR1 vs Audi R8 - Top Gear - BBC, Search it on youtube and watch the video. Watch your car come second to another European Car. If you want I can put up videos that make you look like an idiot all day... but I think you get it
@jdrivas5 And as for noise, the original Mclaren F1 is louder then any american car. You need headphones in oder to communicate to someone next to you. And one more thing. I've lived in the u.s. and am not impressed by your cars. Watch a show called top gear where they have EXPERTS evaluate cars. American cars always come second to European cars. That's why European car manufacturers are flourishing in the job market and American cars are near bankruptcy.
@jdrivas5 And where is your evidence to support these idiotic claims? You're saying a tiny ford gt is able to beat an Enzo Ferrari or a Lamborghini Murcielago? You're retarded. Aston martin will be any corvette in a real race with turns. Forget drag races. A REAL race is a circuit. And not a speedway like hick nascar drivers race in. BMW can not be beaten by cadillac. Cadillac is very heavy and doesn't corner well at all so don't try and sound smart when really you don't have a clue.
Hello derick here, the mclaren F1 car is very good however the only problem is that it loses time in cornering. Red bull is well balanced and drives in and out well, weight balance is the solution of engine or driver position. Active engine mountings for weight transfering.
The mp4-12c is sooooo ugly. i swear even the old mclaren f1 looks far more modern and appealing than this... thing. it looks like an outdated 90s concept supercar, I cannot find one angle it looks even remotely 'pretty'.whats with those 80s sci-fi looking tail lamps? What's with those dual air ducts on the side??? "HMMM.. lamborghinis and ferraris have only one, I KNOW! we'll use two!". 0:57 = an orange shrek for crying out loud.
About the only good thing I can say about this Mclaren is that it may be racing in the ALMS GT2 series along with the new Panoz Abruzzi, and Ferrari 458 Italia. Im sure it would also participate in the European GT2 series as well.
Also I just wanted to say, whoever designed this Mclaren, almost copied the Ferrari 458 Italia, and the Lamborghini Gallardo. Hell the back window looks exactly like it was taken from a F430. This car although maybe fast is ugly, with little original design. Coppied and pasted from Ferrari and Lamborghini. Not a fan of this Mclaren.
On the route you just think, by looking in the rear view damn this F 458 Italia is hot. While you ´ve beeing passed you just wonder the side shape looks rather a Gallardo.
So its a Lamo? Later on the layby you have a look inside and think to yourself damn its a Carrera GT. Tripple-hybrid!
@NathanPl I guess you don't get it so much in a free country like Poland, but in totalitarian Britain even the air we breath out (non-toxic, colourless, odourless carbon dioxide) is a government tool used to control the population. There is a constant and fatuous gov/media hysteria about things like CO2, recycling and swine flu ("I remember that!") which is designed so average idiot votes for a bigger state 'which will protect us'. Hence McLaren must abide or the media will destroy its name. :)
This is how modern sport cars are made. How must Mclaren have done this? It is just absurd to think that Mclaren must have done something different. The F1 started this evolution to begin with.
I don't get the 'bland' or 'copy Ferrari' comments. After the F1, Ferrari went from the angular 355 to the 360 which obviously echos the F1. Lots of manufacturers copied the F1. The 458 is a second evolution of the 360. This is Mclaren continuing on from their own base but with a focus on a different part of the market. They don't need to copy anyone else. In fact everyone else copies them. p.s. What a website they've got for the 12c.
WHAT ABOUT THE VICTORIES AT LE MANS!!! The FORD GT40 kicked ferrari's sorry ass!! And the corvette and saleen s7 are top of the line in GT1!!!! In fact the street versions of these cars are actually MORE POWERFUL!!! I love exotics as much as i love american cars and actually am partial to porsche 911s, but i own a chevy camaro(old not new), the difference is that i can afford the camaro and still compete with the porsche. it's all technique.
These poeple on here seem to not know that the Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo can go up to a Top Speed of 250MPH. That's right behind the Buggati Veyron's 254MPH.
So, why in the hell would you want to buy a 1.2 Million Dollar car where you can get a 600 Thousand Dollar car such as the
S7 that can go just as fast as the Veyron in Top Speed?
And the acceleration speed of the S7 compared to the Veyron is close.
all i'm sayin' is that american cars can hold their own when on the track. Sure they can get frisky in the corners, but when you come blasting out of the corner at full throttle leaving your weight-balanced, super technological exotic in the dust, there's nothing better. Besides, think about where half your cars are built anyway. AMERICA!!!!
first off... I'm just gonna assume you mean the 997.5 Turbo S because a 997 Turbo S never existed, even tho some ppl refer to it as the 997.
secondly.... no i would not get the Porsche over the McLaren, not a chance! if i downgraded my house and still didn't have enough money for the McLaren then I might think about the Porsche. It is a fantastic car but this McLaren is something else! :)
also, to make an even better point, the "performance" car range in america is a helluva lot cheaper than any ferrari, mclaren or lambo that i've heard of.
Yeah.... Ever heard of the saying "You get what you pay for"?!
As for trying to compare a Corvette, S7 or anything else built in America to something like this, well- if you don't know the difference then I don't even know where to start with you.
It's that same old "bigger must be better" disease most of you seem to carry. Let me guess, you think a Casio that can tell the time in 3 zones simultaniously compares to a Breitling or Rolex too? lol
And as if that point wasn't clear enough, how much of Saleen or Chevrolets Formula 1 experience, world leading technical know how and of world champion drivers feedback goes into their cars?
NONE WHATSOEVER! Obviously.
Because they've never had any and never will have.
So go have a rethink. If anybody needs a schooling on how to make a GOOD fast car then it IS the U.S.
@DRIVEFASTER2010 Should be more specific. I don't think a European would think of throwing an 8000 horsepower engine into a car so they can go from 0 to 330MPH in 3.9 seconds. If you want fast, thats fast. When it comes to a car that can actually race in a circuit we have those too. We just don't pretentiously sell them for $1 million because it can chug more gas or go 200MPH.
@DRIVEFASTER2010 Not surprised all their car companies needed governement bailout - US makes junk cars, and the worldwide consumers know that - its very simple.
How does F1 apply to a production car? Didn't the Corvette dominate in GT cup racing for many years? Logic would dictate that technology made on the production type race car would apply better to the real production model than an F1 car's tech would apply to a regular car.
@Curveball Yes this has already been discussed. Although Suspension, paddle shifting, LED technology, brakes, etc, etc, etc.. mostly comes from the LMS, ALMS series and then is applied to production cars.. NOT F1 technology.. its too expensive for Mass produced production cars. You may see F1 tech, on the SLS Mclaren, AMG Gullwing, Ferrari FXX, but not your standard production car.
@Curveball True that.. Even though I hate the newly designed McLaren, I respect the power and engineering. The fact that Mclaren will be road racing again is very promising for the GT2 series and will offer more competitive racing. But I do get annoyed at the ignorance of so many people, who really do not know much about American engines powering european cars today. GM is Huge in Australia, as is Ford in Europe.
Yeah, the more competition the better. Yeah, people rag the U.S. motors for not being as 'modern' in design, but they praise the Ultima GTR that is packing a chevy motor most of the time. Nelson racing has a Chevy LS motor at 1850hp right now. 1850hp should impress everyone.
Plus I do not know of many cars packing 500+hp that are getting 25+mpg either, but the Z06 does.
Not to mention Hennessey, Lingenfelter, Underground Racing, Heffner, all American tuners.
@Curveball Good comeback.. Yeah.. awesome tuners as well.. Plus you have Pratt and Miller. American drag cars..Horsepower claims vary widely—from 6,978 to 8,897—but are probably in the 8,000 BHP range. Supercharged, nitromethane-fueled motors of this type derive their extremely high speeds from their torque, which is estimated at about 7,000 ft·lbf (9,500 N·m). They routinely achieve a 6G acceleration from a standing start.... US POWER!!
@DRIVEFASTER2010 Ahhh a American car hater.. LOL Its all good.. Im not going to school you then on why American car manufactures dont waste their money in F1, maybe they dislike all the BS drama with F1. However Cosworth, Ford has made their mark in F1.. or did you forget that company? Also American Manufactures really only dwell in Road cars... for example. Nascar (Lame) Indyracing, Grand-Am, Continental Series, ALMS. Chevy racing.. Le Mans Corvette, Viper, Panoz.. dont hate
@DRIVEFASTER2010 You are an idiot for saying something poorly about American backed racing. Ford GT40 1967 Sebring, Le Mans etc. Ford has powerd many cars like the chaparral. Saleen S7, an aquaintace of mine won 2 back to back Championships in this car. Prat and Miller Compuware Corvette C5, and C6R (Dominated) Dodge Vipers, Panoz. Now days the Ford Mustang, Camero are running in the Continental series just like old Trans-Am racing. 2 out of the 6 Makes in FIA GT1 are American Cars.
@DRIVEFASTER2010 Just one reply... Ford... Cosworth. Just because you dont see US manufactures in F1 does not make the engineers any less then european engineers. Totaly different manufacturing goals. Lately however you see more US cars entering into racing as of late. Ford mustang, Chevy Camero. If you dont get US cable it would be difficult for you to judge just on how much they have been kicking ass vs BMW and Porsche. Continetal tire series, Gran am Rolex. different then euro seires.
@DRIVEFASTER2010 Ford wrecked Ferrari's shit at LeMans 4 years running in the 60s. Shut your whore mouth.
Also, the C5R Corvettes crushed Ferrari several years in a row in their class. What about that 360? DNF, bitch. How about the 550, the 575? DNF. Fuck your Ferrari.
What do you mean won't cut it? The ZR1 smokes most supercars for a third of the price, and the SSC Ultimate Areo is the fastest production car in history. Sounds like it's being 'cut' to me.
@Curveball " The ZR1 smokes most supercars for a third of the price".
Jesus fucking christ, will you people stop worshipping one fucking car? For the price of a ZR1, you could buy an Audi R8 V10 which is a far, far better car.
"...and the SSC Ultimate Areo is the fastest production car in history. "
LOL. It is nothing more than a hotrod. America's 'me too' effort falls rather short of the engineering brilliance of the Veyron or F1. Oh, and the Veyron Supersport has demolished the record.
No, I really do not like the ZR1. But it's performance cannot be denied. I do not hate on a car just because of where it is from. I respect cars that have amazing performance because that is what I like.
Do not talk about the SSC Ultimate Areo unless you know something about it. Watch the two part video about the SSC Jay Leno did, then comment about it.
It is a drivers car. SSC costs 600k, Veyron 1.6 million. You think I could add some luxury with a million dollars left over?
Oh, you're a magazine racer. You just lost all credibility. You would rather read someone elses opinion that see for yourself.....that's sad.
SSC does not have the financial weight that VW has and you know it. And they Veyron has the speed test advantage, I bet you the 2010 SSC could beat the Veyron SS on VW's test track. Multi-million dollar track with a 4.5 mile straight. The SSC did it on a 2.5 mile road. Yeah, a real road, not a race track.
@Curveball "Oh, you're a magazine racer. You just lost all credibility. You would rather read someone elses opinion that see for yourself.....that's sad."
Oh, so you've owned an SSC then?
"I bet you the 2010 SSC could beat the Veyron SS on VW's test track. "
Owned one? No. Been 3 feet away from one? Yes. They look better in person, but the front end is still ugly.
You don't think the new SSC would beat the Veyron on the VW race track where they tested the Veyron? Well, it takes the Veyron about 5 miles to do it's top speed. Getting up to speed on a bank, then shooting down the 4.5 mile straight.
The SSC set the old record on a 2.5 mile street.
New SSC has 1285hp compared to the old record setters 1184. And It's lighter than the Veyron.
I've been 3 feet away from a Ferrari 360, 599, Aston DB9, Gallardo and others. Can I make informed judgements on any of those cars, other than purely aesthetic, based on having seen them up close? Nope.
"New SSC has 1285hp compared to the old record setters 1184. And It's lighter than the Veyron."
And then we'll see 1300+bhp from the Veyron. If VW were concerned solely with top speed, the Veyron would be hitting 270+mph.
The point about being 3 feet from one was, I have seen it up close, and have no idea what your autoweek was talking about with 'panel gaps' and the like.
1300 would not be enough to beat the SSC with 1285. The SSC is like 1000 pounds lighter. But even if they tried, that is the point. The SSC and Veyron are pushing each other. And that is GREAT for the world of performance.
@Curveball "The point about being 3 feet from one was, I have seen it up close, and have no idea what your autoweek was talking about with 'panel gaps' and the like."
You have no idea because you're not a car critic. Autocar were not the only reviewers to criticise the SSC's build quality.
"1300 would not be enough to beat the SSC with 1285. The SSC is like 1000 pounds lighter. "
At 200mph+, drag is the limiting factor, not weight. The next SSC will not beat the Supersport.
Veyron has a drag coefficent of .41 and .36 when lowered. The SSC has .35
Not sure about the SS Veyron or the 2010 SSC yet.
The only reason the Veyron has the title is because of the track it tests on. Take the SSC off a public road and onto VW's test track where the Veyron tests. That is fair, yeah?
@Curveball Even if the SSC did edge out the Veyron, which it wouldn't, the Veyron is still the better car by far. If VW were really that bothered about top speed, they'd create a RWD, stripped out version, which would be untouchable.
Yeah, I know the Veyron SS took the record back. But try to use your head for a minute.Car A sets the record on a multi-million dollar race track, and has a 4.5 mile straight on it. Car B tested on a real road with a 2.5 mile straight.
It took Car A five miles to hit it's top speed. It took car B 2.5 miles to hit it's speed, but had to let out because it was running out of road but said the car had a lot more.
What car has the advantage in top speed testing, Car A or Car B?
@Curveball "The McLaren F1 had nothing for luxury, a lot less than the SSC. "
The McLaren F1 was a car built in 1993 that held the world speed record up until 2005, and is STILL one of the fastest cars in the world. It was utterly groundbreaking on its debut and many regard it as the greatest car ever made, for good reason.
The SSC is the second fastest production car in history, has more luxury than a McLaren F1, but is hated. People just need to admit that the only reason they hate the SSC is because it's American made. If it was made in Germany or the UK, everyone would be praising it.
@Curveball I'm not the one missing the point, 'dude'. The SSC offers nothing new. The McLaren was way ahead of its time, and the Veyron is the greatest technological feat of automotive engineering, and manages to combine luxury with performance to an extent never before seen.
@BigGee84 Are you sure about that? Saleen S7 has won many GT1 championships, Dodge Viper... GT1... Vector Twin turbo.. even though really ugly was fast as hell for its time. SSC Ultimate Aero TT was the fastest car in the world for 3 years. 2007-2010 untill Bugatti claimed it. The Mclaren is the daddy of Supercars along with the Lamborghini Miura (GrandFather) and the Ferrari F40. Porsche Yellowbird, and Corvette Callaway all made their marks. This new Mclaren though.. Is UGLY
@JuergenGDB There is more to the supercar segment than performance alone. American supercars, and some would say American cars in general, are notorious for poor build quality and shabby interiors. You keep banging on about how cheap the Corvette is compared to similarly performing European cars; there is a reason for that.
"However Cosworth, Ford has made their mark in F1"
Cosworth are a British company.
"This new Mclaren though.. Is UGLY"
The MP4 is not beautiful, but it is far from ugly.
@BigGee84 Yes.. you explained the obvious.. thanks.. I already know all this. However even though the Corvette is cheaper then Porsche (which I happen to own one) their builds are of high quality....of course different from a European build, but today Ford has some of the best builds for its market. The reason I think the Mclaren looks soo ugly is because they practically coppied the Ferrari 458 Italia. except for the Mclaren side panels.
@BigGee84 your a complete dumbass... You think just because I live in the US.. I love american cars? Typical BS from someone like you... and if I stated the obvious.. it only reiterates the new Mclaren is ugly as shit.. may be fast and developed from F1.. but it is still ugly as shit...So I guess you being from the UK has nothing to do with why you love the Mclaren so much.. Your a fucking hypocrite. Ferrari Italia 458 looks way better.
@JuergenGDB One other thing BigGay.. do you always use politico lingo.. LIKE if it was from the USA.. Why dont you compare vs Manufactures... Mclaren vs... what... SSC... sure it may be pieced together kit car of sorts... but how did Panoz start? Delorian? Sure Panoz uses a ford engine.. everything else is fabed by them. New Panoz Abruzzi debutes soon. You may not like the car.. thats your opinion... just like my opinion of the LOOK of the new Mclaren is shit. The older Mclarens were bettr.
@SupercarsReporter It sounds BigGee84 or big GAY! is an idiot! Again.. more stupid BS coming from someone who thinks they know more then everyone else.
@g0ing2n0where Alright then lets narrow down the list. How about German Cars. Mercedes Mclaren, BMW M3, M5. Volkwagon, Audi. Countless cars that American cars will not be able to compete with.
@Zmaj747 Well its hard to compare any country to German luxury with bmw, audi & mercedes. As for VW, theyre large and have quality cars but as far as bang for your buck they lose out. And you shouldnt lump mclaren into 'german cars' as they are very much a british company who outside of their F1 efforts has no more affiliation with mercedes.
@g0ing2n0where I'm not lumping them together. I'm just giving you a single country's car companies that American cars cannot compete with. I can throw out England and Italy as well if you'd like. But I think you get it.
@j7141 ther is a very good reason for that other than the corvettes and the roush mustang are are rubbish smell of glue cause there made from fiberglass and have no horse power what so ever and are basicly overpowered saloon cars that can go round corners
@j7141 they also look a lot cheaper as well (check out how they tape the wires together in the engine bay lol).
Most american cars drive like your sitting on a skateboard with a rocket attach to it lol hahaha its fun but really uncomfortable and maybe even a little dangerous?
Put a Ford or a Chevy on the tracks compared to one of those exotic cars you just mentioned.
and if you're thinking horse power wise, some heavily tuned american muscle cars are faster then the exotic cars... but do they turn? or do you just press a button and go?
americans have very basic automotive technolodgy. You can't make a single good car. Some of ur old 60's or 70's cars look cool but thats it. Europe dominates with quality.
wtf, it barely looks like the mclaren F1. stop smoking pot.
anyhow, i sure laughed at you accusing ferrari of copying mclaren, when the opposite clearly happened in F1 and almost got mclaren banned for a whole year (as mosley would've wanted). they are more or less doing it again now from a financial strategy point of view (just listen to ron dennis).
If the 360 looks nothing like an F1 then this car looks nothing like the 458.
And you think anyone really minds a car maker like McLaren actualy making some money from building cars for once when there's an entire nation such as yours that knows NOTHING about good cars form designing them, building them, driving them or anything?!
We'll all be laughing HARD at this "U.S.A F1" team this year.
Now fuck off and take your mouth for a shit in sombody elses inbox.
you think that america can't build a decent car? look at the corvette, the s7, the gt40, the esperante, need i go on?! if there's anyone that needs a schooling in how to build a fast car, it's definitely not the U.S.!
The reason they all look alike is because that shape is the most aerodynamic and to me that's a good thing since it shows they're doing something right.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That car is ugly.
Seriously wtf are they thinking? The back directly come from 1992 "wanna be futuristic" protos...
It's just a no no...
Sls or 458 italia are just so fukin gorgeous cars...this one will maybe beat them on track and performance...but fuck, i prefer to have an orgasm just at looking those breathtaking cars than seeing an ugly missile going at 130kph on highway.
looks great, but 1000 units a year is far too many. It's more the way ferrari make their buisness.. I know it's the way to make the big money, but what i hoped for was something that smelled a bit of the McLaren F1, a very uniqe racing car for the road where performace is everything and has to be the best money can buy.
yes but ferrari isn't the best and most exclusive car manufacture. They make good cars, but i am talking about a car that is as exclusive as the McLaren F1. It can be one of the fastest cars in the world, but 1000 cars a year is just too many.
So what bothers you is the number? The car seems quite unique to me. Only the frond look is a little more conventional. And let's not forget Ron is trying to build a car company that will help as a foundation to support the F1 team so Mclaren can have a bright future. Building only a 100 cars will be nothing more than a project and not a serious car company.
Also he clearly says that this is the first in a line of new models to come. So this one might not even be there top model. And they will have another that will be build on very limited numbers along with maybe a few other models.
But if you are gonna start you have to start with a model that is capable to impress and still make sales. So i guess this car is in the middle of the line of cars they are going to build.
I dont like the exhaust. I prefer the slr. Same them and merc kind of fell out because the merc input especially on the engine side was immense. Also i believe that he wants it to be a totally british thing. I just feel that when the germans and the brits hook up you have a force that cant be beaten as they both compliment each other. Oh well good on Ron though. Ps hamilton for ever and fuck button.
I like marvel comics even the villain look cool.

I would prefer a koenigsegg anyday.

Zmaj747 1 year ago
@jdrivas5 And for more proof to your idiot claims, I have a video of the latest Corvett Zr1 against an Audi R8. Corvette ZR1 vs Audi R8 - Top Gear - BBC, Search it on youtube and watch the video. Watch your car come second to another European Car. If you want I can put up videos that make you look like an idiot all day... but I think you get it
Zmaj747 1 year ago
@jdrivas5 And as for noise, the original Mclaren F1 is louder then any american car. You need headphones in oder to communicate to someone next to you. And one more thing. I've lived in the u.s. and am not impressed by your cars. Watch a show called top gear where they have EXPERTS evaluate cars. American cars always come second to European cars. That's why European car manufacturers are flourishing in the job market and American cars are near bankruptcy.
Zmaj747 1 year ago

Regards more to follow if this helps any.

About the only good thing I can say about this Mclaren is that it may be racing in the ALMS GT2 series along with the new Panoz Abruzzi, and Ferrari 458 Italia. Im sure it would also participate in the European GT2 series as well.
JuergenGDB 1 year ago
Also I just wanted to say, whoever designed this Mclaren, almost copied the Ferrari 458 Italia, and the Lamborghini Gallardo. Hell the back window looks exactly like it was taken from a F430. :)

And the acceleration speed of the S7 compared to the Veyron is close.

How does F1 apply to a production car? Didn't the Corvette dominate in GT cup racing for many years? Logic would dictate that technology made on the production type race car would apply better to the real production model than an F1 car's tech would apply to a regular car.
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball Yes this has already been discussed. Although Suspension, paddle shifting, LED technology, brakes, etc, etc, etc.. mostly comes from the LMS, ALMS series and then is applied to production cars.. NOT F1 technology.. its too expensive for Mass produced production cars. You may see F1 tech, on the SLS Mclaren, AMG Gullwing, Ferrari FXX, but not your standard production car.
JuergenGDB 1 year ago

Yeah, I guess people just have to make up reasons to hate on a car or company or nation....or whatever the hell causes people to hate.
I don't give a crap where a car is made or how it looks. If it can kick some butt in performance, I'll respect it even if I wouldn't want to own it.
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball True that.. Even though I hate the newly designed McLaren, I respect the power and engineering. The fact that Mclaren will be road racing again is very promising for the GT2 series and will offer more competitive racing. But I do get annoyed at the ignorance of so many people, who really do not know much about American engines powering european cars today. GM is Huge in Australia, as is Ford in Europe.
JuergenGDB 1 year ago
@JuergenGDB
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball Good comeback.. Yeah.. awesome tuners as well.. Plus you have Pratt and Miller. American drag cars..Horsepower claims vary widely—from 6,978 to 8,897—but are probably in the 8,000 BHP range. Supercharged, nitromethane-fueled motors of this type derive their extremely high speeds from their torque, which is estimated at about 7,000 ft·lbf (9,500 N·m). They routinely achieve a 6G acceleration from a standing start.... US POWER!!
JuergenGDB 1 year ago
@DRIVEFASTER2010 Ahhh a American car hater.. LOL Its all good.. Im not going to school you then on why American car manufactures dont waste their money in F1, maybe they dislike all the BS drama with F1. However Cosworth, Ford has made their mark in F1.. or did you forget that company? Also American Manufactures really only dwell in Road cars... for example. Nascar (Lame) Indyracing, Grand-Am, Continental Series, ALMS. Chevy racing.. Le Mans Corvette, Viper, Panoz.. dont hate
JuergenGDB 1 year ago

Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball " The ZR1 smokes most supercars for a third of the price".
Jesus fucking christ, will you people stop worshipping one fucking car? For the price of a ZR1, you could buy an Audi R8 V10 which is a far, far better car.
"...and the SSC Ultimate Areo is the fastest production car in history. "
LOL. It is nothing more than a hotrod. America's 'me too' effort falls rather short of the engineering brilliance of the Veyron or F1. Oh, and the Veyron Supersport has demolished the record.
BigGee84 1 year ago
@BigGee84
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball From Autocar's review:
..."the body looks like something from the mid-1990s, with noticeable variances in some panel gaps."
..."The interior leaves much to be desired"
" ...manoeuvring at parking speeds requires sheer physical strength"
"...build quality on a par with a 1980s TVR and all the luxury of a small Malaysian hatchback."
The Veyron does everything well; the SSC does not.
BigGee84 1 year ago

And it's not supposed to be a Veyron. You think if I got an SSC I could spend the extra million I saved on some luxury for the SSC?
The Veyron costs a million more for a reason. Maybe you can figure out why.
The SSC is a drivers car, plain and simple. The McLaren F1 had nothing for luxury, a lot less than the SSC. Bet you love the McLaren F1.

Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball "Oh, you're a magazine racer. You just lost all credibility. You would rather read someone elses opinion that see for yourself.....that's sad."

BigGee84 1 year ago
@BigGee84
Owned one?
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball
"Owned one? No. Been 3 feet away from one? Yes. "
BigGee84 1 year ago
@BigGee84
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball "The point about being 3 feet from one was, I have seen it up close, and have no idea what your autoweek was talking about with 'panel gaps' and the like."
You have no idea because you're not a car critic. Autocar were not the only reviewers to criticise the SSC's build quality.
"1300 would not be enough to beat the SSC with 1285. The SSC is like 1000 pounds lighter. "
At 200mph+, drag is the limiting factor, not weight. The next SSC will not beat the Supersport.
BigGee84 1 year ago
@BigGee84
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball Even if the SSC did edge out the Veyron, which it wouldn't, the Veyron is still the better car by far. If VW were really that bothered about top speed, they'd create a RWD, stripped out version, which would be untouchable.
BigGee84 1 year ago
@BigGee84
Why are you being so delusional? A lighter car with more power and less drag cannot win? Get real.
Yeah, the Bugatti is a better car, but it wouldn't be a faster car.
And Bugatti would never be as light as the SSC is.
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball theres a new veyron out (supersports). this one DOES beat the ssc for speed. sorry bud
kibsyyy 1 year ago
@kibsyyy
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball "The McLaren F1 had nothing for luxury, a lot less than the SSC. "
The McLaren F1 was a car built in 1993 that held the world speed record up until 2005, and is STILL one of the fastest cars in the world. It was utterly groundbreaking on its debut and many regard it as the greatest car ever made, for good reason.
BigGee84 1 year ago
@BigGee84
Way to miss the point, dude. lol
The SSC is the second fastest production car in history, has more luxury than a McLaren F1, but is hated. People just need to admit that the only reason they hate the SSC is because it's American made. If it was made in Germany or the UK, everyone would be praising it.
Curveball 1 year ago
@Curveball I'm not the one missing the point, 'dude'. The SSC offers nothing new. The McLaren was way ahead of its time, and the Veyron is the greatest technological feat of automotive engineering, and manages to combine luxury with performance to an extent never before seen.

JuergenGDB 1 year ago
@JuergenGDB There is more to the supercar segment than performance alone. American supercars, and some would say American cars in general, are notorious for poor build quality and shabby interiors. You keep banging on about how cheap the Corvette is compared to similarly performing European cars; there is a reason for that.
"However Cosworth, Ford has made their mark in F1"

"This new Mclaren though.. Is UGLY"
The MP4 is not beautiful, but it is far from ugly.
BigGee84 1 year ago
@BigGee84 Yes.. you explained the obvious.. thanks.. I already know all this. However even though the Corvette is cheaper then Porsche (which I happen to own one) their builds are of high quality....of course different from a European build, but today Ford has some of the best builds for its market. The reason I think the Mclaren looks soo ugly is because they practically coppied the Ferrari 458 Italia. except for the Mclaren side panels.

"The reason I think the Mclaren looks soo ugly is because they practically coppied the Ferrari 458 Italia. "
How could they have copied the 458? They were in development at the SAME TIME. The MP4 takes its design cues from the F1, which was deliberate.
If the MP4 was American, you'd all say it was more beautiful than any Ferrari, and, as with the Corvette, we'd NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT.

JuergenGDB 1 year ago
@JuergenGDB One other thing BigGay.. do you always use politico lingo.. LIKE if it was from the USA.. Why dont you compare vs Manufactures... Mclaren vs... what... SSC... sure it may be pieced together kit car of sorts... but how did Panoz start? Delorian? Sure Panoz uses a ford engine.. everything else is fabed by them. New Panoz Abruzzi debutes soon. You may not like the car.. thats your opinion... just like my opinion of the LOOK of the new Mclaren is shit. The older Mclarens were bettr.

@BigGee84 oh did you forget about a little car called the SSC Ultimate Aero?

@SupercarsReporter It sounds BigGee84 or big GAY! is an idiot! Again.. more stupid BS coming from someone who thinks they know more then everyone else.

@BigGee84 American cars in general can't compete with European cars. That's why I'm glad to be from Europe
Zmaj747 1 year ago
@Zmaj747 well thats rather unfair. Your talking about one country vs. all of europe
g0ing2n0where 1 year ago
@g0ing2n0where Alright then lets narrow down the list. How about German Cars. Mercedes Mclaren, BMW M3, M5. Volkwagon, Audi. Countless cars that American cars will not be able to compete with.
Zmaj747 1 year ago
@Zmaj747 Well its hard to compare any country to German luxury with bmw, audi & mercedes. As for VW, theyre large and have quality cars but as far as bang for your buck they lose out. And you shouldnt lump mclaren into 'german cars' as they are very much a british company who outside of their F1 efforts has no more affiliation with mercedes.
g0ing2n0where 1 year ago
@g0ing2n0where I'm not lumping them together. I'm just giving you a single country's car companies that American cars cannot compete with. I can throw out England and Italy as well if you'd like. But I think you get it.
Zmaj747 1 year ago
@j7141 ther is a very good reason for that other than the corvettes and the roush mustang are are rubbish smell of glue cause there made from fiberglass and have no horse power what so ever and are basicly overpowered saloon cars that can go round corners
reel2real5 2 years ago
@j7141 they also look a lot cheaper as well (check out how they tape the wires together in the engine bay lol).
Most american cars drive like your sitting on a skateboard with a rocket attach to it lol hahaha its fun but really uncomfortable and maybe even a little dangerous?
jystyle 2 years ago
@ j7141 LOL
Put a Ford or a Chevy on the tracks compared to one of those exotic cars you just mentioned.
and if you're thinking horse power wise, some heavily tuned american muscle cars are faster then the exotic cars... but do they turn? or do you just press a button and go?
namm3rboi 2 years ago
americans have very basic automotive technolodgy. You can't make a single good car. Some of ur old 60's or 70's cars look cool but thats it. Europe dominates with quality.

How's it a copy when they've been in development at the same time?!
DRIVEFASTER2010 2 years ago 2
@DRIVEFASTER2010
the 360-430-458 line of ferrari have had roughly the same shape, dumbass.
joyfulvulture 2 years ago
Oh yeah? So did Ferrari copy the McLaren F1 with the shape of the 360???
(Since many such as you claim they did).
Probably not.
And since the F1 came out way before the 360.......
Watch who you call a "Dumbass" when your obviously one without even trying!
Better still, learn something about cars before making comments about them (then again you're very probably American so it's to be expected).
DRIVEFASTER2010 2 years ago
@DRIVEFASTER2010
wtf, it barely looks like the mclaren F1. stop smoking pot.
anyhow, i sure laughed at you accusing ferrari of copying mclaren, when the opposite clearly happened in F1 and almost got mclaren banned for a whole year (as mosley would've wanted). they are more or less doing it again now from a financial strategy point of view (just listen to ron dennis).
dumbass brit.
joyfulvulture 2 years ago
You fuckin' what?!
DRIVEFASTER2010 2 years ago
just so you know, i'm not american, and i'm sure you can find me bitch at the ZR1 somewhere here on YT...
joyfulvulture 2 years ago
you think that america can't build a decent car? look at the corvette, the s7, the gt40, the esperante, need i go on?! if there's anyone that needs a schooling in how to build a fast car, it's definitely not the U.S.!

The reason they all look alike is because that shape is the most aerodynamic and to me that's a good thing since it shows they're doing something right.

That car is ugly.
Seriously wtf are they thinking? The back directly come from 1992 "wanna be futuristic" protos...
It's just a no no...
Sls or 458 italia are just so fukin gorgeous cars...this one will maybe beat them on track and performance...but fuck, i prefer to have an orgasm just at looking those breathtaking cars than seeing an ugly missile going at 130kph on highway.
spinaker38 2 years ago
looks great, but 1000 units a year is far too many. It's more the way ferrari make their buisness.. I know it's the way to make the big money, but what i hoped for was something that smelled a bit of the McLaren F1, a very uniqe racing car for the road where performace is everything and has to be the best money can buy.
dude2106 2 years ago
What are you talking about? The car is at the top of technological advancement. It's a lot more advanced than anything Ferrari has to offer.
SIPEROTH 2 years ago 5
yes but ferrari isn't the best and most exclusive car manufacture. They make good cars, but i am talking about a car that is as exclusive as the McLaren F1. It can be one of the fastest cars in the world, but 1000 cars a year is just too many.
dude2106 2 years ago
So what bothers you is the number? The car seems quite unique to me. Only the frond look is a little more conventional. And let's not forget Ron is trying to build a car company that will help as a foundation to support the F1 team so Mclaren can have a bright future. Building only a 100 cars will be nothing more than a project and not a serious car company.
SIPEROTH 2 years ago
Also he clearly says that this is the first in a line of new models to come. So this one might not even be there top model. And they will have another that will be build on very limited numbers along with maybe a few other models.
But if you are gonna start you have to start with a model that is capable to impress and still make sales. So i guess this car is in the middle of the line of cars they are going to build.
SIPEROTH 2 years ago
This car is not the successor to the f1. It's a lesser model to perhaps fund the next big and greater thing that would be the successor to it.
daharryone 2 years ago
i know that. I was just hoping that it would be the successor for the F1.
dude2106 2 years ago
@SIPEROTH
Ferrari doesn't make anything that's top of the line technologically advanced.
SecularTechnology 1 year ago
This car will sit in the middle of a new 3 model range from McLaren. The true F1 successor is yet to come....
DRIVEFASTER2010 2 years ago
brilliant car. breathtaking. ron dennis is the man!

it doesn't have any door handles?!?!
brandy498 2 years ago
I dont like the exhaust. I prefer the slr. Same them and merc kind of fell out because the merc input especially on the engine side was immense. Also i believe that he wants it to be a totally british thing. I just feel that when the germans and the brits hook up you have a force that cant be beaten as they both compliment each other. Oh well good on Ron though. Ps hamilton for ever and fuck button.
