just saw darrell in bristol at his only set he did at the rhyhm and roots festival this past weekend what a treat to see him inside the paramount theater with its great acoustics and doing his entire set on a beautiful grand piano
Discovering real music takes effort. It takes time. Always has. It takes searching and weeding out the bad from the good. Fortunately that process is easier than ever before.
A sublime mix of musicianship from both sides of the pond topped off by Darrell Scott's wonderful vocal tone and feel. Wherever the deepest musical pleasure zone in the brain is this just found it .
This was quite wonderful. The mix of Darrell Scott's sublime and heartfelt vocal and the pure beauty of the mainly celtic backing musicians was beyond compare. Musicians, singers and songwriters would do well to listen to this and to understand from such a good example that music excels when it stirs the deeper emotions of the listener.
the main stream music industry has no heart soul or feeling and is all about money and i dont mind that becuse music like this gets passed down the years plastic pop dies and sometimes main stream fame and money ruins it.
Because sadly today's music industry focuses on canned music from plastic "Musicians"(so they call themselves). Most people dont' take time to really listen to music - As you say these guys have more talent and skill than any other commercial mainstream pop-puppet will ever have.
Because most people aren't fortunate enough to be able to appreciate this. This music will be around long after the top 40 charts and the crotch-grabbin' pop and country "artists" have been long-forgotten.
When I get to heaven I'll have a Taylor or a Larrivee. Right now I'll just have to keep playing my old Gibson. She still sounds sweet although she needs to be retired because she's been ridden hard for 35 years.
I just watched transatlantic sessions on bbc four and I still can't get enough of darrell scott. Everytime I hear him a chill runs down my spine. Thank you for posting this.
Tom, I can't thank you and the others enough for posting these videos. I had never heard of the Transatlantic Sessions, and I am moved beyond words by this music. Thank you so very, very much.
Tom, Thanks for posting these videos in the first place, I've played the dvd a million times since Xmas! Sadly the more widely known Darrell becomes the less chance we have of seeing him where he really shines, in small venues. such a soulful musician, never fails to move me.
' some folks have it easy, atleast thats how it seems, reach up to pick an apple reach up and find a dream' the most profound lyrics i've ever heard in my entire life Darrell Scott is a legend....
cant beat him in any sense of life and the beard is awesome
Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever".
All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.
Human excellence at its very best... With all the crap on YouTube what an amazing display of artistic perfection! Darrell played this song live on my local radio station (knbtfm) and it gave me the chills as I was driving home. Awesome Musician! Big thanks to him for coming to New Braunfels.
DUDE, I KNOW HIM!!! that's my best friend from a while backs dad!!! i sooo didn't remember what he looked like -.- she was my friend for like... ever! well, not ever, but for like... 5 or 6 years or something... and that was a long time when youre little. he's really good!!!!
TomScotland thanks for posting these videos. Saw the original series 1 & 2 when I lived in Scotland. BBC should be ashamed of the timeslot they gave the originals.

It kills me that there are 63 642 views on this, possibly one of the best songs ever.

I have seen him live a few times and he was playing a Taylor with Koa top, back, and sides. This looks like the same guitar.

It's a Taylor K-20, pretty rare and lovely sounding guitar!
brendanmurphy8 2 years ago
Do you know if that's the same guitar as he plays on the CD "Real Time" with Tim O'Brien?

it's an epiphone masterbuilt
which, i've never heard another epiphone sound that good. suppose, his guitar just has more music in it.

It's actually a Taylor K20.
Not that it matters. It's more the player than it is the guitar, and we all know Mr. Scott is an exemplary player musician.

Anyone know what kind of guitar Darrell plays? It looks like a Taylor but I can't be certain.

Darrell's vocals carry away on ethereal shores of Celtic lore,
With the fiddle of Aly Bain on a gentle Celtic rain,
With Jerry's slide to the other side of nothing to hide,
From Russ's sweet mandolin of sorrow in the wind,
And Ronan's sweet uilleann pipes above our foibles and eartly gripes.
