Nurses are needed, however. DOCTORS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nurses as far as medical knowledge is concerned. They are two separate jobs with two separate daily "routines" and one common goal.
if you were that great of a nurse you wouldve gone to medical school now stfu and do as youre told by the guy who spent 12 years prepping for the job, while you and Laqwisha Jones were doing your e-credits to be eligible for the community college. If you a medical student/professional you'll agree with this.
what not to do as a nurse lol...New grads do not try this in your hospital ...this makes us nurses look bad...hmmm you should do a video about evil doctors who are mean to floor nurses
the number of times i've heard: "this patient shouldn't be on this floor" DEAR GOD, i hate residency...the night nurses and weekend crew are a different breed
People who have attitudes of one profession being more important than another, are dumb and uneducated.I probably have more money in my bank account than most of you, thanks to being in a very wealthy relative's will. It can buy me many things and I am very very well-secured for life.Yet I don't have the ignorant ego-tripping and un-classy attitude that some of you have. Those that do are pathetic and ugly. And lack true class.I will never respect you.Karma will visit you.Good luck!
@mslaana1 no offense, but the fact that you just had to disclose that information and impose a threat about karma of all things is pretty ego-tripping...
And likewise a hospital can't work with just nurses working in it. A hospital can't work without physical therapists in it. And you need our social workers. You need environmental services. You need the tech support. Anyone who doesn't understand the webwork of healthcare is an ignorant prick and it's pretty disappointing that there are such ignorant individuals in the health field. Well, humans are disappointing in general.
It's nobody's fault you choose a job that involves being on call for 24 hours. People need their lunch break. Grow up and deal with your life choices. There are good nurses and incompetent nurses. There are good doctors and incompetent doctors. And a lot of all of you have a school yard mentality of "Reebok sneakers are better than Nike sneakers"and vice versa. Grow up! It's pathetic that there is such juvenile mudslinging.A hospital can't run with just doctors working in it.
The dynamic between the attendings, residents, students, and RN's is pretty good where I am. The way it goes here, the residents who disrespect nurses in our hospital pay dearly.
you forgot the classic "your patient hasn't had a bowel movement in 4 days, what do you want to do about that." resident answers "why did you page me about this at 3 am, put in some laxatives" happens every time.
I'm a nurse anesthetist (doctoral level for those who care to know). I supervise first, second and third year MD anesthesia residents..don't worry, I tear them a new one if they disrespect the nurses. I guarantee you won't see any of our residents being rude towards the nursing staff. :)
@NurseWalczak Haha...that is until the CA3 becomes the attending and you get fired. Oh well, plenty of other ASA 1 cases for you so do at lousy community hospitals. FYI anesthetist is not doctoral level, but you can keep telling your friends and family you're a doctor if that helps your complex.
@Lolercopterz ONE aspect of a nurses job is to carry out personal care and by doing this it is maintaining dignity and improving quality of life..if you were in a similar situation, how would you feel?
This is ridiculous. Get over yourselves residents. I agree with the comment below. Clearly those who are speaking negatively towards nurses have never been a patient and seen how hard they work and how much of a difference they make. Meanwhile you residents are on some ego trip with your head in the sand.
No one is saying nurses don't work hard- I agree that they will make or break a resident- but there are a few that I Really wish would appreciate that I am carrying 30 patients. not 4. I've been on since 7am yesterday, not 7pm this evening. and at 3am I don't care that a cross cover patient has a pulse of 63 and I don't know if they are going home wednesday. I would like them to not be dead when I sign out in the morning. This message has been brought to you post call.
No one is saying nurses don't work hard- but it's hard to not be agitated when you've been on call for 24h without so much as time to pee much less eat but you have to wait for something to be done because it won't be done while the rn is on lunch break.
The same scenario happens in the veterinary world too... It's all the same thing.. Nurses can give people hell. Check out my video intern vs resident. It could easily be call nurse vs resident and it would be totally fitting :)
Clearly the person who posted this video has never been a patient or been inside a patients room long enough to see just how much work a nurse really does, and how without nurses the infrastructure of a hospital would literally crumble.
There are bad/lazy nurses and bad/lazy residents, most just want to do what is right for the patient and unfortunately bad experiences stay in the consciousness much longer than good ones. Generalizations like this can be taken as a joke as intended, or they can get your ire up.
As a resident a few years ago I found out that a nurse can help you or destroy you (when you're on-call). I think people need to understand we must work as a team and don't be a pain in the a. Anyway, this was fun!
Barring the exception, most nurses are not dumb. They find residents equally annoying - if you have to watch 5 beds, do you really want to babysit an incompetent resident who's 1) unwilling to take responsibility, and 2) is itching to condescend to you the moment he/she becomes a bonafide physician? My mother is a nurse, and she can't count the number of times she's had to cover for a resident.
Incompetence is everywhere, everyone's tired, but the work has to get done.

Totally true. most nurses are dumb and lazy. They take several breaks. they call for stupids things. They don't want their patients to complain and just want t o give patients narcotic always!
@realmanfromeast Clearly you have no idea what nursing entails, and you have obviously never done bedside care through the middle of the night. If you don't like your high paying job that keeps you up in the night, then do us all a favor and quit.
@medstow Try 4 years of Nursing school.I have been an RN for 14 yrs in a teaching hospital and seen MANY residents come through..Let me tell you something..I work 16 hr shifts of DIRECT patient care.I am not hiding in the on call room.I am doing hands on patient care, deciphering half assed orders and covering the asses of incompetent morons that 2 months prior were STUDENTS..So do me a favor, get over yourself.I am trying to do my job and take care of my patients,
@Rmulierirn If you're a hard working caring nurse, that's awesome. Good for you. No need to be defensive. It doesn't apply to you, so why cares? Regarding "getting over yourself" part, I think it should be directed to you, not to me. Who cares?
@Rmulierirn Lmao... incompetent med students? They're students for god sakes... students with brighter futures than you so don't be a jealous. 4 years of nursing school is nothing compared to 4 years undergrad + 4 years med school + 3 years residency + however many years of fellowship.
@xlilcutie93x I said residents not students.I understand they are students.I have no issue with that. What I do have issue with is when July 1st rolls around and they feel that they now have something to prove and won't listen to a damn thing I say ..Which is an issue since I am the one at the bedside for 16 hrs and actually KNOW the patient and what I am doing...and believe me I am FAR from jealous..If you feel nurses are awful and have no future, better never end up a patient.
Don't get mad nurses. If you watch all the other series of videos you will see that the doctors don't get offended because they know that's true. This is the scenario that we live on everyday!!! Just laugh!!!
@1cmckind Unfortunately, some are actually! I've been page in the middle of the night for a kaliemia at 3.4 while the normal is between 3.5-5.0. You have to be dumb to think that a 0.1 difference while the patient has no complain is worth waking up the resident!
