To make a word taboo is to give it power. It shouldn't offend anyone to say "nigger" or "fuck" or "shit" when it is used out of context. It's what is behind the words that matters. If you are using the word as a derogatory fashion then by all means, get offended. But the idea that a person can't use a particular word based on their skin colour is -- don't jump down my throat here -- racist.

Sherri Shepard probably didn't even know what they were talking about to begin with, because if you watch the View she never contributes anything intellectually to conversation. Sherry needs to learn that not all her feelings have to be expressed openly. This was a private feeling and she should be a little embarrassed by expressing it to someone who wasn't calling her the name but reporting it. Barbara has every right to say it and so does anyone else.
