You're right ,J. Reagan knew he couldn't get the countries and leaders truly responsible for terrorism, so he demonized Qaddafi. I remember that story about the Libyan agents, what a crock!! Let's hope that Libya can develop a good relationship with the EU, and the US as he has with Africa. The Arab world, regrettably, will take some time. But Qaddafi was right when He blasted Arab Leaders at the recent summit. He is the only leader with enough guts to say what needed to be said.

You're welcome. Qaddafi is a great leader and he was unfairly demonized by President Reagan. In Saudi Arabia, the Royal Family keeps all the oil wealth for themselves. Qaddafi has done a noble thing by sharing Libya's oil wealth with the Libyan people, investing in infrastructure and public works projects, free college education, free health care, and free housing for the Libyan people. I'm very happy that President Bush removed U.S. sanctions against Libya and normalized U.S.-Libyan relations.

Libya's invested more money in economic development in black Sub-Saharan nations (Christian and Muslim) than any other nation. Qaddafi bankrolled Nelson Mandela's African National Congress during their decades long struggle to overthrow the white apartheid regime in South Africa. Qaddafi was the first Arab leader to condemn the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Moammar Qaddafi has done more for women's rights than any other Arab leader. In Libya, women have full equality. Women serve in the military and are police officers. Here's a quote from Qaddafi's 'Green Book' regarding his views on women:

my parents lived in Libya for two years in the late 70's. Qaddafi was wrong on invading northern Chad and some groups he supported like ETA or Corsicans was dumb. But he was still better than how people in the media portrayed him here.

It was ridiculous how the U.S. media went along with the Reagan Administration's hype and portrayed Qaddafi as a monster who was obsessed with destroying the United States. The U.S. media made Qaddafi seem like the Ayatollah Khomeini + Saddam Hussein x 10. I even remember it being reported on the news that Libyan agents were going to sneak across the U.S.-Mexico border to assassinate Reagan. It was all nonsense. Libya was never a threat to the United States. Reagan's bombing of Libya was wrong.

It's ironic that 20 years after Reagan bombed Libya, President Bush fully normalized U.S.-Libyan relations, removed Libya from the U.S. State Department's list of nations that sponsor terrorism, and lifted U.S. sanctions against Libya. The reality is that Reagan bombed Libya for no reason. Reagan claimed that Libyan agents set off a bomb at a Berlin disco in 1986 that killed two U.S. military personnel. It was later proven that Libyan agents had nothing to do with the 1986 Berlin disco bombing.
