  • I really love this track. One of my favorites! My hobby is to rediscover all those great bands from the 60s that didn´t "reach the highest level" in contrast so The Hollies. Believe me - it´s a fantastic music treasure. Listen (youtube) for example to:

THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah".

Awesome - with a bloody driving beat.

THE GOLLIWOGS and the tune "Tell me". Check up the singeer - yes, it´s him!!

  • hahahahahaha 1:16

  • I love the (early) Hollies

Check out my version of "Too Much Monkey Business", Featuring

    Prairie Prince on Drums

    Tony Platt Mix

    Oona Garthwaite Vocals

  • I photographed the Hollies in 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • this is the best version of this amazing song!

  • Check out my version of "Too Much Monkey Business",

Featuring Prairie Prince (Todd Rundgren, The Tubes...) on Drums

Mixed by Tony Platt (AC/DC, Bob Marley...)

Plus, I'm giving away my whole album,

"The Frequency of Love", including "TMMB"

    Thanks,

    Geoff Knoop

  • Great legs moves at 0:33!

  • This was one of standards all UK po p groups did just prior to making it..."Twist and Shout" , was another...^/^

  • About 3 million years ago I saw them at Kidderminster Town Hall and they introduced this as their favourite number.

  • Why do y'all think the song is called "Too Much Monkey Business", anyway? That's all that the guys are doing when they go into "I Feel Fine", by their rivals, the Beatles. Nothing sinister about it at all.

  • Tony was/is so adorable! Thanks for this video.

  • lol

  • Eek- was that a Beatles dis at 1:18-1:20?? LOL

  • These guys are pulling down a solid 10.0 on the Tighto-Meter.

  • yardbirds played like these guys around that time and blew the hollies away i think. yardbirds where the equivalent of crazy punk rockers back then.

  • @logen99999 Compared to the studio recording, this performance is heavily influenced by the Yardbirds' version.

  • Just because The Beatles do a song doesn't necessarily mean they did it best. All of the British bands did a lot of the same songs, this was one of them. Some tunes fit certain bands a bit better than others. "Fortune Teller" was another song that got played by just about everybody, but The Stones' version was best.

  • @moorlock2003 If I can clarify, these bands all did the same songs in their stage acts, so it's no coincidence that they all recorded the same songs as well. So there are bound to be different versions, some that are similar, and some that are not.

  • @moorlock2003 Just because someone thinks the Beatles' version is better, that doesn't mean their version is or is not the best, but the prefer that one. Did you read the comments here, in total? There are people saying Elvis's version is the best, or that the Kinks' version is the best. That doesn't mean they did it best, either. Songs are going to be covered over and over, with some variations. That's to be expected, and there will be these disagreement on whose is the best version.

  • We get into studio vs. live versions. I prefer The Hollies' live version here over their studio version. Actually my favorite studio version of TMMB of all I've heard is the one by Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders.

  • You're obviously not familiar with The Hollies. The song doesn't fit them? They played "Too Much Monkey Business" as the closing song of their concerts for YEARS, even as late as 1971. It wasn't until 1972 that they changed the last song of their concerts to a little number called "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)".

  • anyone also notice that just before Graham sings the "I Feel Fine" joke verse that he also plays the intro riff?

  • @jeffkahl Everybody noticed it, but they thought he was really doing it by accident. They didn't think it could have been a joke.

  • @jeffkahl Not until you mentioned it but that was very cool. You have a very good ear. :)

  • This is Cool almost as good as The Yardbirds Version

    Thank you

    Jimmy Onele Rules

  • Go Alan and Tony! WoW!!!!

    Graham always so funny

All you young musicians look, listen and take note..

My son 17 a guitarist has and he is clearly better for it

Amazing so much was created with so little other than

    pure talent and dedication

  • There are many versions of this song, by The Kinks, The Beatles, The Yardbirds and The Rolling Stones.. I like The Hollies one, but The Kinks version is great too.

  • The 'I Feel Fine' joke by Graham would have been better appreciated in the UK than in the states, as The Hollies were labelmates with The Beatles on Parlophone in the UK.

  • it's hard to say but probably this version is better than The Kinks one...for sure better than The Beatles one!

  • Best version of this song I have heard yet, very underrated group

  • Beats the crap out of the Beatles version!

  • @KoivuTheHab No, the Beatles version is better, but similar.

  • @snowgirl114 Massive differance in speed... They don't even sound alike.

  • Ha! Great performance and Great performers! They even managed to throw in a bit of humor...when Graham starts to sing a Beatles tune in the middle. They were SO talented and simply AWESOME!!

  • What-Elvis imitators?

  • @erwintommy How can they be imitiating Elvis when he wasn't even the original singer of this song? It was Chuck Berry.

  • Im curious, can someone help me out please. There seems to be versions of this song by other artists like Elvis and the Beatles. Who is the original author of this song??

  • chuck berry

  • OH, Thank you.

  • Awesome take on that Chuck Berry tune I love it, Check out the Beatles version too! :) Peace

  • Wow I've never seen Graham Nash so young before.

  • They were so cute, so talented, and they had the girls screaming just like the Beatles!

  • cool!

  • I'd bet that Governor Sanford just loooooves this record! LOL.

  • These guys can really rock! There was such a wealth of talent to come out of England and they were primarily influenced by the late great Buddy Holly and The Crickets. This is simply outstanding and just proves that the Hollies could mix it up with the other great bands of the time.

  • Excellent posting super group

    thanks david for sharing

  • WOW GREAT EARLY HOLLIES TY FOR POSTING 10********** TY dlpine71 for awesome share HE,S ALSO KNOWN AS DAVE lol MY GREAT FRIEND

  • Simply FANTASTIC! Many thanks and thanks to dlpine71 (David) for sharing! Love the interruption! LOL ☺

  • Yes, Paula, Allan Clarke was a great front man, and cute, too, I suppose!! Hey, I'm man enough (I think) to say they were all cute!! LOL

    David

  • Nice one and fun,thanks David :)

  • great fun, these guys, the hollies!! their personalities and character's always came through in their performance's.

i have never heard another group sound better 'live'! five stars, fezandfrat!!

  • Love to watch this, especially Allan dancing!!

  • Yeah, Allan is one cool dancer.

  • Dusty didn't call him allan 'wiggle hips' clarke for nothing :D

  • haha

    that was fucking awesome!

  • I like the part they interruput Graham´s singing. was it prepared?

  • Of course! It's a Beatles song (Ticket to ride), and the Hollies were trying to compete with them.

  • Whoops ... sorry. The Beatles song Graham is starting isn't Ticket to ride, but I feel fine, of course.

  • It makes a lovely joke, doesn't it? It's one of the highlights of general group banter.

Graham's admiration and respect for other musicians is consistent over the years.

  • I think Dylan said the original Chuck Berry version inspired "Subterranean Homesick Blues."

  • WOOOOHOOOO!!!!! You guys ROCK!!!!!

  • Jaja!... "... Baby's good to me... " XD

  • I spent a lot of time watching Hollies videos tonight. This one is a great way to top it off. Great rock-and-roll fun the way it was meant to be.

  • Hey never hear this song before , could not keep still in my seat hearing it . Thanks go Hollies go!!!!!!

  • Gotta love all 10,000 watts of these guys. Graham is a live wire due to his charm, Allan lights up the place and Tony glows.

  • Love the Hollies! Quite a challenge getting all the words out this fast but Allan gives it all he's got as usual.

  • The Hollies are still so awesome, check out their 2008 album.

  • @39RatRodCoupe Did you notice this was on TV, and you're comparing that to studio recordings?

  • This song was Chuck Berry's in 1956. So many artists have re-recorded it. I love this one from the Hollies, but I also like Elvis' version. He slows it down a little.

  • Very cool. They copped the Beatles cover. Very funny when Nash drops in I Feel Fine...almost as if a nod to their cop.

  • This is just... G R E A T!! :D :D

  • my baby she is goot to mee... lol

  • the first verse is sung by Clark, the others by whom? Please tell.

  • The 2nd verse is sung by Graham Nash, the third and fourth by guitarist Tony Hicks.

  • Thanks a lot! I think the thing that happened during the 5th verse, was kinda flash mob.

  • graham looks pissed when he starts to sing and they all scream n make noises that is graham isnt it

  • Everyone calm down about the lyrics. When Nash starts singing a line from "I Feel Fine" it is all in FUN. The band is just joking around. They were playful on stage; just part of their appeal.

  • HAH! I love it when Allan shouts and squeals what a showman :) Much prefer this live version to the one on the In The Hollies Style album.

  • Except the flash mob on the fifth verse. And the bridge here is shorter. And the first verse is repeated at the end.

  • blimey everyone, get over the lyrics, who cares, lets just rejoice in a fantastic band and a great song..........btw aint many tribute hollies round are there......erm,wonder why?

  • I think this is a great live version. There are certain Hollies songs I'm not crazy about, but one thing is certain: you can't fault them for their live performances. They always deliver in that department.

  • great band

  • This is a great version by the Hollies. I like them. But I will say that the song's lyrics by Mr. Chuck Berry are great, and it's odd that the Hollies get them wrong a bit. That's it. Now everyone apologize to one another.

  • It's not that much of a mystery. Maybe they had to cut out one verse for broadcast time restraints, or maybe the producers of the show told them to take out that verse for whatever reasons. This was during Vietnam. I've seen many live versions of different songs by other singers and bands were they don't sing every verse. It's not a unique thing to this one song or performance.

  • there is a good reason the the lyric mix up if you listen carefully its the start of the beatles "i feel fine" its a piss take and maybe the reason for not all the lyrics maybe they forgot the words this happens

  • There was a previous poster who said they didn't like this song, and preferred the Beatles' version. No one went after them for it. If you don't like it, just say you didn't like it.

  • I just compared the two. This is one case where The Hollies' version beats The Beatles'.

  • @moorlock2003 No, I think the Beatle's version is better, but this one is also good. Just because you think one version is better, it doesn't mean the others aren't good. People forget that they're comparing a studio recording to a live TV performance.

  • True, but I"ve heard The Beatles' live on the BBC version, and The Hollies arrangement of the song is more interesting. The Beatles' version is just sort of a quick runthrough; nothing special. Notice they never recorded the tune but The Hollies did (on their second UK LP). It's fun how they trade lead vocals, the way they would do a couple years later with "Carrie-Anne". TMMB was a staple in their live sets even after Nash left.

  • This is a live version, which differs from the recorded version. They probably had to cut out a verse for broadcast time constraints. They don't sing it any differently than the Beatles. How is this version cheesy?

  • On Shindig, bands would often do minute and a half versions of their songs. More time for acne commercials that way. Gotta fix those pimply faces of the kids watching.

  • 1:43 - 1:44! Tonalissious =P Haha, love this song! and luuv them =P

  • Tony Hicks is the greatest.

  • haha the one guys like what the fuck when he gets interupted

  • Haha, yeah, thats Graham Nash right?...I thought for a while it was Eric but now I'm pretty shore (if i wrote that right) that this is Graham =P

  • Do you know all the lyrics and can sing them? If not, keep your comments to yourself.

  • Great performance from the boys-Really Rockin'-Great to see Tony singing as well-Wonderful clip!!

  • I never realized Allan Clarke could dance! He's pretty good!

  • One the best song of the 60's.And this version really rocks...

  • sounds like their best song!

  • Allan Clarke is kicking ass at dancing

  • the best version

  • when was this

  • Babys good to me...NOOOOOO

  • Eric Haydock a great bass player but nasty person.

  • How so?

  • I LOVE this video!!! so awesome!

  • hey yeah! this is so cool. thanks so much for making the effort and uploading it...

  • amazing video - great live pop performance - great energy - top 60s band

  • FREAKING AWESOME! i just LOVE this Video..and it shows that all the guys had talent! Esp TONY!;-)<3

  • Yes, this is one of my favorite songs whit them and it's just better that Tony sings 3 verses:D He was sooo cuite...:D;):P

  • couldnt agree anymore! i just ADORE this guy! *sigh*

  • he IS SO CUTE! not 'WAS' IS! ;-) such a doll..i wouldnt say no! :-D

  • I just bought 2 CD's whit The Hollies and the other one is pretty new I think....It's called Staying Power and there are pictures ''in'' the CD (you know what i mean) and there he looks more of a cute grandfather but when he was younger (60's - 75/80's) then he was a total hottie!!!! But the songs are still great but I really miss Allan Clarke, he is such a great singer!...and i mean 2 verses not 3, it was a tibo (pleas don't mind the grammer, i'm Icelandic and not that great in English grammer)

  • But Tony is and will allways be the best and the coolest one in the band:D:P;)....but what is your favorite song whit them?

  • Hey, I told you about the DC.....It has really good songs but it just not as good as listening to Allan sing whit them!:S But Tony is allways great vocalist and guitarist;):P

  • I so agree whit CharleiBrenja! Everithing that he/she said is true!!!!!! Tony is my favorite in the band and he is such a cutie:D This is one of my favorite songs whit them!!!

  • I love the Hollies and this is a great song! I love Tony Hicks, he's so cuite and he can sing and play so well and Allan's voice is amazing!!!

  • Bobby Elliot = Genius!

Up there with another unsung great of British drummers, Bobby Graham (who is on more records than you can imagine.)

Bob Henrit of The Roulettes is the third of the Holy Drumming Trinity of British Bobs.

    Absolutely powerful, kickass drummers all!

  • like it

  • @billg2089 It's a performance for a TV show. There's no harm done.

  • One of the best British Beat bands, with some of the most distinguished and recognizable harmonies of the 60s. Their earliest material (like this cut) is their most fun stuff.

  • How cool is that Danelectro guitar?

  • Pretty Cool

  • TONY!!!<3 amazing! look at the boy play! <3

  • tony hicks is actually , tommy steele,s brother :) .

  • No, I think you're thinking of Colin Hicks who was a pop star in the 60s. Tony and Tommy Steele are not related.

  • whoa, people. let's watch the off-color language like simonteam has already suggested. enjoy the hollies and knock the other stuff off. too much monkey business!!

  • An insult a woman like Sapphiretaurus is a shame. You are a shame, cos a true man dont make this awfull kind of things.

  • butchermachine...do you think that you are a superior human being? I mean...im sudamerican...and yes,i love Hollies musics,(i love Keane,The Police,Andres Calamaro,Material Issue, and several bands that play different music)Are you the kind of idiot that hate to sudamerican people? I feel sad your you...You have a poor heart...Truly

  • why dont you mind your language fella--this is about music appeciation--nothing else!!!

  • only just!.

  • The hollies, by far my most favorite band during the british invasion. so fond of their original lineup. however, terry did a great job fitting graham's big shoes...

  • That was pretty inadvisable!!!

  • Rap is not music, nor is it an "art form", nor is it poetry. End of story. Talk about being an imitation. The entire genre is based on stealing or, (ahem) sorry..."SAMPLING"..other beats, lyrics, or melodies, etc. "Sampling" is not an art form, its called lack of originality. And "rapping" about degrading women and your tire rims can't really be considered "art". If what you're saying that rappers are "poets" then rap is another rip-off of the whole beat generation. Rap/Hip-Hop is useless.

  • did i see eric haydock playing bass there?,bet there arent many vids with eric in?.

  • Yes, you saw correctly. That is Eric on bass!

  • Tony Hicks sounds like George Harrison when he sings.

  • he looks like him too, he even does the same movements.....its pretty cool lol

  • Your ignorant. Rappers aren't trying to sing. Most rappers can't sing just like Emily dickinson, Robert Frost, T.S. Elliot couldn't sing (but they did have some good poetry).

  • well hmm...i wouldnt call rap poetry, have you ever seen the lyrics to most popular rap songs? i doubt that Emily Dickinson or T.S. Elliot would have stood to see them perform.

  • Distephano, I've got four words for you: "Read Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales"

  • You're an idiot.

  • so am i

  • And your point is?

  • Real Rock N Roll!!!!

  • and... "peace out" sounds like you listen to more rap music than you'll admit

  • "modern poetry put to a beat"??? LMAO. You've got to be kidding! RAP is ghetto bullshit put out by uneducated talentless thugs who probably couldn't hold a job at McDonalds or their local car wash. British invasion music was real MUSIC, which required singing and playing instruments. I don't know of any rap artists who can sing.

  • You're as dumb as butchermachine. Rap is trash. British Invasion is real music. I don't think you've listened to much British Invasion music, otherwise you wouldn't have made such a comment. Get your ears out of that rap garbage and listen to real music, and then maybe you wouldn't be making such comments.

  • I challenge you to a duel.

  • BRITISH INVASION MUSIC RULES!

RAP IS CRAP!!!!!! MY OPINION WHICH IS CORRECT.

    Peace out.

  • you tards. this is definitely the best version (other than the original).

No one gets the 'arrrhh' like allan. That shit makes the song right there.

  • LOVE the Dan Electro!

  • man i like allan clarke's little dance, its cool lol

  • You're in the minority on that one. You can't even comment without using sounding so harsh? It's just their rendition. I like the Beatles's version, and I think it is the better one, but I don't think the Hollies "suck." If you don't like it, you don't like it, but you can say so in a better way.

  • Hollies was a supreme band.Better at the Beatles in some songs...But Hollies had not a braillant producer, they hadnt any great impulse of theire musical industry.Musica journalist never was justice with them. But you listened -without prejudice- any hollie songs and your ony can sady:"awesome...wow"

  • really neat stuff

  • Cool! Thanks.

  • What happens at 1:18? Did Nash start singing the wrong lyrics?--looks like he was interupted by a scream from Tony--anyway he looks to his left with some disappointment? Still a fabulous video!

  • At 1:18, Nash starts singing the lyrics to the Beatles "I feel fine", and the other guys in the band get on to him. I guess they were spoofing an imaginary rivalry between them and the Beatles. They were just goofing around.

  • I have a live performance on CD of this song, but instead of "I Feel Fine", they goof around with "My Generation" and "Daydream". Seems to be some ongoing "monkey business" whenever they performed this song.

  • It was deliberate -- he started to sing -in jest -a song by their compeition -the Beatles- of course. Just a wee Hollies joke.

  • Don't you just love it when Allan the Arrrrrrh! bit in this song?

  • I love it! He's so sexy!

  • your tube brill thought heard most hollies songs but heard one called lights on best thing they did in 60`s vidio not bad u must listen if u hollies listner

  • Ta never heard lights on before gives me goose pimples when I hear a new song . It must have been like this in the 60s. Pity about the video it looks like an ad for "ladies of the night".

  • this one's amazing, but i'm partial to the Beatles live version at the BBC.

  • i think you all need to listen to the elvis presley version of too much monkey business, as talented as the hollies were, this doesnt compare

  • Yep! Elvis owned this (not even Berry himself has a say in that LOL)

  • Absolument Superbe!

  • What a great band. They peaked when I was in middle school! This band probably had the best vocalists at the time. Hell, Graham Nash and Allen Clarke alone...

  • The Hollies were professionals -- but not to full of themselves to just have FUN.
