have you actually checked out the power of .22mag, the .22lr is like 100pounds per square foot, where the .22mag is 320pounds per square foot. a fair bit more powerful. you have got velocity mixed up with power
If you already have a 22 i wouldnt worry about buying a 22 mag, i have a 17hmr which is a much faster round than the 22 mag, but the only problem with both of these rounds is that they loose alot at over 100 yards,
@ShawnCFarm well, your getting kinda expensive in those rounds especially 270, and theres alot of recoil with a 270, i would recommend a military round like a 308 or a 7.62x39. you can buy both of these rounds really cheap, cheaper than 22 mag also..rugers mini 30 shoots the 7.62x39 also the aks, how ever the 308 is super accurate and powerful 1000 meter round, thats the most common round shot by US snipers, and since your looking at a bolt action rifle i would have to say get the 308
@fastgmc The problem here is that you can only shoot with 275 cal highest for hunting cyotes. So was looking into something harder hitting then the 22lr for them. You can buy some 223 rounds really cheap here but I think there fmj at Canadain tire store
@ShawnCFarm ah i see, yeah well both of the rounds i was recommending are 30 cal based, the only thing is i would look into gettting something that could serve as a multifunction deal, here to hunt deer you have to use a centerfire round, and i wouldnt shoot a deer with a 223, but that would kill a deer and a coyote, but i would get something that could do both really well, i have a 243 also its a nice round, actually i got it for my wife its a marlin sy7 bolt action, nice gun and its cheap
@fastgmc price difference between a 243 and 270 round isnt going to be that much though, so i dont know, 270 is going to have more recoil, I think you would be able to find a 243 or 270 bolt gun cheaper than a 223 bolt, Do they let you guys have ar-15's up there? only thing there is the price and your still dealing with a 223...a sks would be the way to go but its 7.62x39 also...my only this is versatility , you cant do that much with a 22mag, for that same money you could get a 243 ect
@fastgmc No AR 15s are restricked meaning I can only goto the rang with it and no hunting at all. Mags must be pinned to 5 rounds in a semie auto, but an old bolt Lee enfield you can still put all ten on it.
@ShawnCFarm gotcha, well, thats just my thoughts, i would go bigger than a 22mag, its a fun gun to have, but looking at the big picture, you already have a shotgun so you can kill anything with it that you can kill with a 22mag, i would look into something with some better range, knockdown power, and versatility, saying that i would stay with a common round, like a 243 or 270 thats all i can think of that going to be under .275, if your only going to kill coyote than a 223 is fine
is this really different from the model 300 in .22? i have the .300 and it looks identical. mine isnt a magnum, but i can still hit soda cans from 175-200 yards away with it.
@JgGooden the diff is that the lr shoots slower and has less knock down power the mag shoots at the lowest of 2,000 fps to 3,500 fps while the lr shoots at the lowest of 1,000 fps and the highest of 1,500 fps but the baddest rimfire that sum ppl think is thee .17 and that shoots 4,000 fps thats fast but my personal best is the mag but it all depends on what your hunting dude!
Ask your buddy which scope mounts he used ? I have the same weapon and cant find the 305 listed on the weaver website. I am thinking #48016 are the mounts that fit it. This weapon is the same as Savage 93F without the accutrigger and #48016 fit the 93F.
@jg26jv44 I'll ask him next time I'm talking to him. I had taken all his guns from his house when he broke up with his wife, but Now things are good so I gave them back, or I would just go up and look at them for you.
I own the 17 HMR and the 17 mach 2 and i haven't been ever disappointed by them if you are just squirrel hunting make sure you aim for the head cause it will blow a huge hole in the side of it.
not a bad rifle but u should check thegunsource see if u can get a better deal they will ship to a local armory and u can go pick it up also u will probably find they have a bigger mag u can get
@talfacprez I have windows xp & i've tryed 100 times now, it won't download. The microsoft website has this windows movie maker 2.1 and i'm suppose to "enable updates". So i checked my computers software files & it says "updates enabled" but i still don't have the software. Called Computer Renaissaunce and their stumped too.
i like bolt action the best, great looking scope durible looking stock, i dont like the one peice trigger guard either.... i have a .22 mag 2 shot daringer - i hate it, kicks like a muel, tiney handle, hard to hold on to and rounds are expencive.
@MrMarchant71 I hear you about the cost. Thats whats kind of killing it for me. Then theres the power difference. From what I saw last night theres not a big difference, well not enuff to justify paying alot more for less rounds.
A nice gun, but I prefer wood stocks or synthetic with a section of the butt cut out, everyone loves the looks of a wood stock and can be collectors, but for stalking through the bush i like a very lightweight gun
From what I have read about feeding issues, 99.9%of the time it is always the mag, you should be able to get a 10 shot mag for the gun for around 15 bucks anywhere. Then I would only put 8 shots in it and the spring in the mag will last a lot longer.
And for a rim fire I found a new love interest I am going to pick up :)

That is a nice gun. I have a Ruger 10/22 and a Savage Mark II. You should try Adobe Premiere Elements 9 for editing. I use it and it works great.
